RE: What song(s) do you listen yo in the morning?

Sometimes I like to hear songs from the bands “America”, and “Bread”. Also, Joni Mitchell, Don MacClean...teddybear

RE: Name a store you shopped at that doesn't exist anymore.

I’m also remembering “AutoMats”. These were cafeterias with rows of small windows. The customer would go along the line with his or her tray, choose each item they wanted, put in a coin (main dishes were usually 20 or 25 cents, sides and drinks a nickel or dime.) they were popular because the food was fresh/ hot, inexpensive, fast, and you could “create your own” lunch. New York had several; I remember one in downtown Portland when I was very young.

RE: Can you forgive

To this I do agree.

RE: Secrets and Torture

I don’t pretend to know much about the military, but I’ve been told by more than one Marine that during education and training, the “boots” are told that, if captured, it’s almost 100% they’re going to be executed, whether they tell secrets or not, so to keep that in mind. (“Why should I tell if they’re going to do away with me, anyway?”)

RE: Name a store you shopped at that doesn't exist anymore.

Along the same lines— do your remember “Sen-Sen” breath mints? Or, “See-Vu Cigarette Lighters”?
(They were clear and had tiny dice, or a fly-fish hook, or some other novelty item, floating in the fluid. Usually the ‘trim’ was red, black, or green.) I have one— and, I have been offered $500.00 for it. They retailed in the 1950s for about a dollar...)

RE: Can you forgive

BOY HOWDY...some things would be just way too silly to not forgive; I interpreted this thread to be about those horrendous, deliberate things people do. My top- tier people- problem is weird f#*&$ who beat up (or worse..) helpless little ones, elderly, or poor little animals. I also take a hard line with identity thieves, and those who rip off pensioners, that sort of thing. I guess it would be safe to say that my line in the sand is “intent”. That changes the geography, as it were, of the matter.

RE: Can you forgive

Hi Selenite— it’s raining here at the moment. Just a thought— try Blackhawk County— the song “Oregon” @1975. Speaks well of my digs. ( young lady from here was set up and arrested in Turkey back then (Joanne Hubbard) for alleged drug smuggling. Took a long time to get her home. This band developed the song and used the money to help get her freed. She lives nearby. But, takes no calls, etc...concerning the incident.) very interesting story.

“they say the rain in Oregon will get you down
But I hunger for its sound.....”

RE: Can you forgive

Hey! (( ..I heard my name....wink ))

RE: Name a store you shopped at that doesn't exist anymore.

Are there still Western Auto and Coast To Coast stores?

RE: Name a store you shopped at that doesn't exist anymore.

Not quite gone...34 stores remain open...(there were 2100+)

Does anyone remember “Piggly-Wiggly”? “Three Boys”, “Bazaar” ? How about “SAMBO’S?? laugh

RE: Name a store you shopped at that doesn't exist anymore.

For years there was a very classy store in Portland called “Rhodes”. Very similar to Nordstrom, Saks, etc...I believe there were other Rhodes stores— btw, are “Bob’s Big Boy” restaurants still in operation?

RE: The 70s

”I Got A Name”, “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me”, Theme from “A Summer Place”, “Takin’ Care Of Business”, “Peaceful, Easy Feelin’”

RE: Name a store you shopped at that doesn't exist anymore.

Sprouse Reitz, Mervyn’s, The 88 Cent Store, Avenue Plaza.

Are there still stores called “Urban Outfitters”, and JJ Newberry’s? How about “Norths Chuckwagon?

Love hearing from you, lovie. Across the mighty ocean’s tide and distance from a friend who could have come from millions of people, I am blessed to have that one in a million be you. (Oh my, am I buzzed...?laugh )teddybear

RE: The Final Judgement

So are you suggesting that God was just joking around when He says iniquities shall “be cast into the sea of forgetfulness, to be REMEMBERED NO MORE”? You know, He either meant this or He didn’t. I believe He means it. Like I told Pedro, you can’t have it both ways.

RE: Can you forgive

Another view is that there are people out there who just don’t care for apologies. (The person giving the apology is doing it to make him/herself feel better. It is about THEM, not so much the injured party...)

RE: Can you forgive

People don’t forgive.

RE: The Final Judgement

thumbs up My two-pence: We (bear with me, metaphorically) are forever trying to “ figure out” how it all pans out with only rudimentary, worldly tools. Concepts like ‘time’ and ‘measurements’ and so forth will be completely different, or not exist, as we cognitively know them. For example, if the streets of Heaven are paved with gold, then gold wouldn’t be of much value, if it were as plentiful as gravel. We try so hard to “equate” the spiritual life by comparing it with the tangibles we are experiencing now, not fully realizing that the comparison cannot actually be actualized here on earth. Bottom line: we’ll just have to wait and see.

RE: The Final Judgement

””Come, let us reason..”” Scripture states that God’s forgiveness is taking the wrongdoing “ and casting it into the sea of forgetfulness TO BE REMEMBERED NO MORE.” So, considering this to be true, it would be quite contradictory for the salvaged sinner to undergo judgment. Can’t have it both ways, Pedro. professor

RE: Is it wrong

YES..being hurt turned to annoyed turned to cynical turned to PISSED. If this applies to you it does, if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. Na na na na natongue

RE: Is it wrong

Funny how “ the other woman” is always so vilified. What about the husband? I actually know a very otherwise educated man who believes the man/husband should be completely off the hook. His reasoning? The “Siren Syndrome”. (Men can’t help it...so it all falls on the trollop’s shoulders...) NOTE to any befuddled rummy-dummies— I did NOT say this is what I, myself believe, so don’t go mixing up my words. PLEASE read carefully...thanks a bunch...professor

RE: If it looks and tastes like a prawn..

I’m making beer battered cod from scratch today.

RE: The Final Judgement

Too many people take God out as an insurance policy— this is a leftover from medieval times when both The Church and government WANTED the people to be running scared. It just doesn’t work that way. (And who, mind you, would WANT to follow that lop- sided belief?? It simply doesn’t hold water...

RE: Negative thoughts

Thanks - just love it—- now, I knew some of the words/ phrases, but couldn’t find all. Here’s what I interpreted, and please edit if needed!laugh

“And you, as well, my friend- thanks. Have to get going with the ( my) day. Good on you..”

RE: Sparks..

This is not so much about intimate friendship but rather my view and observation about what is attractive in people, in general. I’m good friends with a married couple. She is a physician, he teaches High School. They’re both very busy in their respective careers. They ALWAYS have time for me, never even hinting that they might have anything else to do ( which they most assuredly do..) no ego, no condescending, just total down- home relaxed class. They compliment me on my achievements, rather than focusing on themselves. They always seem excited to see me, very, very warm, completely tactful friends. These are the kind of folks I’M attracted to. And you know, if they can do it, ANYONE can.rose
