Most welcome! I love to help even if it's no help at all!
Besides I just LOVE science!
There have been impacts all over the world throughout it's existence.
The Chicxulub was in Mexico.
There was one that hit in Sudbury, Ontario 1.8 billion years ago. Astronomy mag. says it was 9 miles wide, however National Geographic mag. say it was as big as Mt Everest? I think it left a 160mile wide crater, which has been largely erased over the eons down to about 20 to 40 miles. It smashed into a huge shallow sea that was there at the time destroying the stromatolites that were there busy enriching the atmosphere's O2 % which allowed more complex life forms to evolve.
Yeah, well the people that claimed the Mayan calender predicted the end of the world are IDIOTS! Their calender was made up of long cycles & short cycles. 12/21/2012 was just the end of a long cycle.
They calculated their calender out 2.5 million days = about 7000 years. So we still have at least a few thousand years till we reach the end of their calender. I don't think they've(scientists) have figured out why they stopped calculating. Maybe it was war, maybe they figured that was far enough for "now" or maybe their calculators died or were killed. Who really knows?
The Chicxulub meteorite that hit the Yucatan peninsula, that is believed by many to be the cause of extinction of the dinosaurs, was 6.2 miles wide. That is thought to have made impact 66 to 65 mya.
Well you seem to contradict yourself. Wasn't Pompeii considered an advanced civilization ? And yet they built their city right next to an active volcano!
There is more to vulcanism than ash fallout.
Lava flows can be hundreds of feet in depth.
Look at Hawaii, from sea floor up it's the tallest volcano/mountain on this planet at over 35,000 ft.
Islands can be lost/destroyed in explosive volcanic eruptions.
They could possibly be subducted also, leaving nothing to be uncovered.
I have long believed that due to plate tectonics & vulcanism the archeological evidence of ancient cultures/societies have been lost to examination forever. Possibly advanced peoples that we will never get to find out about.
Children raised around animals, be it cats, dogs, barnyard animals, have a lower incident of asthma as they get older.
I had a 190lbs. Great Dane that loved my grand nieces right from the start, when he met them. They were 4 & 6 years old at the time. They could be left alone in the front yard with him & any idiot that would have come up & pushed 1 of them down would not have survived. I had to caution their mom 1 time for raising her voice at 1 of them once. He came up off of his bed & had started across the room.
At another time their mom walked in the front room where they were sitting in a chair with him towering over them & the oldest 1 was hitting him in the head. He just stood there passive as could be. Well he was drooling on them, but he drooled on everybody & thing!
Oh the trials of guardianship!!!
I had another dog, 90lbs. a yellow lab/St. Bernard mix that wouldn't hurt a child for anything! I dated a gal that had a 4year old daughter that would pull on his tail or ears, poke him in the eye or even pick his nose & he would just look at me like.... HELP!!! But he never once made any kind of aggressive move or nuance toward her. And I'm sure also that he would have given his life to protect her, just as the G. Dane would have for his little girls!
Dogs ARE the greatest!!
80 to 90% of dogs are BETTER PEOPLE than 40 to 60% of humans! I know, it's a sad ugly truth but yet it IS a truth!
Oh yeah & if humans aren't animals then I guess the world IS flat & only 6,000 years old! And the dinosaur bones just formed in the rocks that way or they're the trick of the devil to fool us!
Well that's my ignorance to add to this thread! My apologies to anyone offended by anything in my post!
RE: Extinct species
In a way, we already are, by sending species to extinction by our over running the planet.SHANTI
