RE: A heredity head of state or an elected one.???

OBE's? confused

You mean the one who is now Obstinance_Works? I realise his humour is a little dry at times, but I don't think he'd make for good kindling, despite being British.laugh

Ok, I like all of the above, just wish I could afford one of the three, or all of them, reno's being the most expensive. uh oh

RE: A heredity head of state or an elected one.???

Well, Kate's kinda hot, but if you do, please make it heavy stock, I need something to light the woodstove with. laugh

RE: Single young women in Sydney, Australia

Funny thing, it's Alberta and Asskatchewan where the majority of the work is, yet their prices only doubled, or maybe tripled in the same time frame.

It seems to be what the market will bear in some areas, even to the extreme, but in others, it doesn't reflect it in the same manner. I don't see how many young people/couples will ever achieve home ownership, or outright, within their own lifetime in some places.

My area in BFnowhere has gone down in price overall, but there really isn't as much work here as there was when I bought it either. I'm hoping it turns into more of a retirement community in time, so I have even more peace and quiet than I do now. laugh

RE: Single young women in Sydney, Australia

Bloody 'ell! It's Vancouver all over again! shock

Some places along our coast went up ten fold in a couple decades, once they started to climb in price. I won't get in to the reasons, that's another story altogether. roll eyes

RE: Idea time.

Nothing wrong with two year old threads, or even older, the topics are still relevant. Although there may be different views from people that may no longer be here, so they can't comment on any new posts. laugh

I have plenty of ideas for new threads, but I'll stick to social commentary and being a pain....for now. grin

RE: most beautiful country in the world is

Skip Alberta, BC is the best place in the whole country, although parts of Ontario are nice too. I'll admit, the Rockies are nice in Alberta, but anything east of that is as scenic as a glass of water in the dark. laugh

RE: most beautiful country in the world is

You've been to Canada, which part?

I still think Canada is the best, despite the corrupt politicians, and the Queen of England having her picture hanging in some places, and not from a rope either. laugh

RE: A heredity head of state or an elected one.???

Me too, but there's still the beaurocrats. mumbling

I'm trying, thanks, you too. grin

Maybe I'll feel more settled once I have the place insulated and proper doors and windows in, so it isn't quite so drafty. christmas happy

RE: Where do you see yourself this time next year ?

Having a nap, somewhere, hopefully. laugh

RE: A heredity head of state or an elected one.???

Hardly a minority, things have changed since we had one room schools that you had to walk to, barefoot, in 3 feet of snow, uphill, both ways.laugh

RE: A heredity head of state or an elected one.???

Hold on, the monarchy isn't the heritage of the vast majority of Canadians, so why should she have any status here, even if it is just as a figurehead?

We brought our constitution home over 30 years ago, and should have severed ties with England in every way, shape and form at that time. I don't see any merit in keeping a queen, king, prince, etc., for anything, especially when it appears to be solely for posterity.

I won't say we should behead her, seeing as she waved at me when she visited Edmonton many years ago, at least she was decent enough to do that. laugh

Still, a useless icon of an imperial past, that bears no use for Canada's future. professor

RE: A heredity head of state or an elected one.???

Thankfully at least one country on the planet has the sense not to give away utilities to private corporations. The Canadian federal and provincial governments did, and now the average citizen is paying for all of it, dearly. mumbling

Might seem strange to some, but I almost got a chubby in a thread about tractors. laugh

RE: Is it wrong to not want to have children?

It's no different for men, having kids with the wrong person could mean ending up living a life of poverty, paying child support, and having to "negotiate" with your ex to see your own children, when she sees fit.

I've met a lot of women that wanted kids, but not necessarily a man, but had no objection to dragging them through court for money to pay for the kids. As well, some that planned just that, having kids so a man could support her, because of the kids, and with no intention of having the man "their" lives. Also, several that are vindictive, totally selfish, hateful and spiteful, and will use the children as a weapon.

After 35 years or so of watching "family dynamics", there's no way in the world that anyone can say it's rougher for the women than it is for the men. Even after meeting and talking to several so called "dead beat dad's", it's usually just over money, and not being able to afford the costs of it all, and slowly sinking in to a pit of despair, and some have even committed suicide because of it.

What most seemingly fail to realise is, the children are the ones that pay the ultimate price for what their parents decide to do. I intentionally avoided all of it, having a girlfriend, having kids, knowing full well what the odds are here in Canada, and what my future could could hold, if I had kids with the wrong woman.

It was my decision, and I do often feel cheated to an extent, seeing as I think I would have been a good father, and several people that know me have also mentioned that. Thing is though, it's a bad idea for a man to have a child with just anyone.

RE: Tractor appreciation Thread

Put up a couple pics of the Rovers on my profile, now that I can post pics again. grin

The ex-mil RHD is gone, sold it to a fella in Whitehorse, Yukon, but still have the other two, as well as one more 88. The Mustang and the Subaru are gone too, but I did replace them with other goodies, and sadly, they're all gone as well. sigh

No worries, going to look at a '53 Willys station wagon, might make a trade, if it's all there. Have to fill the garage somehow, may as well be a 4x4. laugh

RE: Name a Greek word in English, used in your own language.Part 2

Easy with that thumb Checkers, I'm not that kinda guy. uh oh

Although, that might have some Greek endymology, or something. laugh

uncertain

RE: Name a Greek word in English, used in your own language.Part 2

Moving is ALWAYS a nightmare, took me 6 years to get here. uh oh

Put up a few pics of the Rovers, two of which I still have. The red one is the one the "hat pic" was taken in, just before I drove it through the Cardinal River in Alberta, many years ago. cowboy

I wonder if Rover has any Greek etymology? confused It sounds more Irish than anything.

Very few will get the "unicorn" reference. giggle

RE: Is George Clooney right????

Don't do that, they'll end up in Texas. laugh

RE: Name a Greek word in English, used in your own language.Part 2

I'll figure out how to, in time, I have a million other things on the go at the moment, as well as a million miles of driving to do to bring the rest of my belongings to my new place. I'm basically living in a big warehouse at the moment, in the process of converting it into a home. A few pics are the least of my worries at the time, but I will get to it.

The lappy croaked from old age, it was 7 years old. laugh

RE: Who should pay for healthcare

That's something I was discussing with someone just a couple days ago. The Canadian government has hiked tobacco prices, yet again, and there's a rumour they'll go up again in the near future, to who knows what. If the idea is to tax people to death so they won't smoke, or simply can't afford it, who makes up for the shortfall? dunno

It'll be 20 years, maybe even 40, before all the smokers are dead from whatever, and there won't be that tax base from tobacco to support all the costs associated with their health care, let alone the extra revenue that smokers never see any benefit from.

People get ill all the time, and the smokers and drinkers are also paying for their health care, moreso than they are themselves in taxes overall, compared to what they take out.

The other things is, all the smokers and drinkers are also keeping health care workers employed, as well as politician, who are continually looking for a bigger slice out of their wallets.

May not be the best arguments for smokers, but still, facts none the less. I'm not on here to promote it either, just tired of people that choose to partake being crapped on as they generally are in society. It's not like we're evil, or have horns, we just took a different path and will possibly pay the ultimate price for it, in the end, but we pay all along, for others as well.

I wonder if the anti smoking crowd will be willing to cough up the billions to cover the costs? If not, quit whining.

RE: Name a Greek word in English, used in your own language.Part 2

I'm just thinking some of the members from the past won't recognise me without the old pic. cowboy

cheers

RE: Name a Greek word in English, used in your own language.Part 2

Thanks Pete, it's trapped in my old laptop, which is dead, but I think I have it in an old email, maybe, I'm trying to find it. handshake
