RE: If Mandela asked you for a hug

No I would never hug Mandela. I know somebody else who was made a hero after killing a few people "for a just cause" of course.

St Paul was made a saint after killing hundreds of Christians. What are the criteria that people use to crown their heroes?

Amnesia? Dementia?

RE: ARE ALL LIVES OF EQUAL WORTH OR ARE SOME MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS?

Excuse me officer, I am sorry I cannot move it from here. I have an appointment with Smoky, and if I shift it and go and wait for her somewhere else, sh'll miss the boat..sorry the tank, and she is dying to have a drive in it. Ten of the seats pull down to make a comfortable love nest, and she would never forgive me, officer, if I drove off, and stood her up!!rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

RE: ARE ALL LIVES OF EQUAL WORTH OR ARE SOME MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS?

No I never said I was, but then I have studied later in life, phsychology and philosophy, and although that does not make me a super being, I can understand much more clearly, and express myself much more clearly than most.

What hits me in your reply is the strong anti America feeling that you express.

About the tank, that is not a tank but the Czech version of the German KFZ 251 half track made in your country during the war. I keep it just for fun, not to make war, and occasionally rent it out together with some other vehicles for film making. That is when the photo was taken.

RE: ARE ALL LIVES OF EQUAL WORTH OR ARE SOME MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS?

Any more comments please. This is an interesting topic, far more interesting than the childish word games. This is adult stuff at last.

RE: ARE ALL LIVES OF EQUAL WORTH OR ARE SOME MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS?

Well let us start by elimination.
Definitely not the church minister. He has already been saved by his master

RE: ARE ALL LIVES OF EQUAL WORTH OR ARE SOME MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS?

HighFidelity, do you use oil instead of Euros when you go to buy?
You seem to use oil as your lowest common denominator.

The thread is not how much human life is worth to another (person).
It is basically "are all lives of equal worth"
To their owners yes definitely.

RE: ARE ALL LIVES OF EQUAL WORTH OR ARE SOME MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS?

It is a question of asking somebody to judge who should live and who should die. And who may I ask is this super hero who has the RIGHT to decide who should live and who should die?
It should be up to him/her to decide to drown to offer a chance to others. For sure I would not opt to save anybody's life, because Iam in the first person, so I come first, you come second and he comes third, in the verb conjugation.

A worse situation would be between a boyfriend and his girlfriend. Whichever is saved will live with the remorse of letting the beloved one die. At some time, one would have preferred to die instead. But fate has its ways, and nobody has the right over someone else's life, not even the state, who kills to punish a killer. In doing so the state would be committing the same crime as the killer.

RE: ARE ALL LIVES OF EQUAL WORTH OR ARE SOME MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS?

BALLS !!

RE: ARE ALL LIVES OF EQUAL WORTH OR ARE SOME MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS?

I think that your answer is slightly out of point on this one Smoky. You are dead right when talking from a subjective point of view, as to whose children you would save, yours or those of others, if you could not save both.
The question is however: are all lives equal? Should some be saved in favour of others? Are there people who automatically qualify to be treated differently? Would you save the pope or your neighbour?
If you asked me....another subjective answer of course... both have a life to live, and none can afford to lose their own. So we cannot judge which life to save. It is not what we want to do.
All lives are of equal worth because we cannot make somebody else's life worth more than that of any other, just because he is a priest or a doctor or a quack.

Yes all lives are worth equal. Coming to think of it, with all the boasting that the human being does, he has only one life like that of the snail, or that clever ant. Worth thinking about!!!!

RE: ARE ALL LIVES OF EQUAL WORTH OR ARE SOME MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS?

It seems that some philosophers hold this view about others. They cleverly stay away from making any reference to their own life or life category.
I say that you can only afford to lose a life if you have more than one life to live for.

RE: Videorecorder

It depends on what repair they need. If it is just replacement of a drive belt, then repair them. This is the commonest fault. If the heads need replacement, then put them nicely on a shelf, cover them with plastic, and leave them there as souvenirs of your past life with them!!
I hope that this free advice helps you!

RE: Videorecorder

Make sure you buy enough batteries for your future hearing aid to last you a lifetime, and make sure you buy two, identical ones, so that if one breaks down, you will still be able to continue to hear your favourite music through the other!! Take care.cheering

RE: Civilized Exchange

No Smoky, please don't. Who would be making any sense here if you left??

RE: Videorecorder

Seriously Uli, video tapes are very sensitive to humidity and to magnetic radiation. Go on playing them as much as you like, but if you really intend on storing what is on them, make just one copy on DVD. DVD is indestructible. A video tape deteriorates every time it is played. Then there is the problem with damage, like cutting during playback, and rubbing against the heads and the guides.
So my advice is record on DVD for the record, and continue to play them for as long as you can see them with their fading image quality going down with use.
Sorry Uli, but this the truth about video or any magnetic tape recording.
What did you say was your mobile phone was for "friends"? 0049.....I did'nt get the other numbers

RE: Jacko wishes everyone a prosperous New Year

Oslo, there are 365,000 inhabitants in Malta, and some interesting ones are on CS, so don't worry.
There are some who have four wheels too, not just two!!

RE: Vienna concert is anyone listening, what you think?

HAPPY NEW YEAR MKD.
Yes I think the first day of the year would not be the same without the Vienna concert.

Glad to see that you are back on CS too!!
And that you are looking beautiful too!!

RE: Dreams come true

What made you say that Rusty? This beautiful lady from Belarus was sitting down on the sofa, not sleeping on the sofa.

Most people never succeed in making their dreams come true, because the grandeur of the dreams is out of all proportion with reality. If they dream about flying, they're never going to fly.

As for myself, I always forget what I dream, so my dreams always come true. I just forget that I had dreamt about them.

RE: HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008!!

Hi MARTI, Happy New Year 2008 to you too.

May you have a great time!!!!!!!

RE: The living being called men

Don't know much about stomping to make fine wine from grapes, because I buy my wine ready "stomped" and seasoned, but I have heard that "the older the fiddle, the sweeter the tune". Maybe this is pertinent to men who have matured from boys.

RE: Brunette officially....

You have such docile ways of expressing yourself!! How nice it would be to have you for a girlfriend!!!!!!!!!

RE: Brunette officially....

Cristina is disgusting, but the answer she got was no better. As far as the goodbye, good bye and have a nice time!!

RE: Guys, nothing to tell about Africa-Europe summit?

Oh for that little energy problem, it is the only vehicle besides my Spitfire aircraft Rolls Royce V 12 engines, that one could talk about not miles per gallon, but gallons to the mile. With its 12.5 litre
V 8 engine this half track has two fuel tanks containing about 250 litres of fuel. But who cares! It is only used for filming and now will be used for re enactment purposes from next year. The last time it was used in a film was nine years ago.

RE: Brunette officially....

Jacko,
I never understood to what extent people can misinterpret what I say. This must be either because I am unable to express what I mean, but it is hardly the case, or it is because people are incapable of understanding.

If you see how Brunette answered Cristina, maybe you understand my reaction. More than that I was translating an Italian proverb
meglio soli che mal accompagnati...which translates into..better alone than with the wrong guy. What's so outrageous with me saying that?
As to my being so callous and miserable, I just wish that you had the sort of life that I have. I don't need anything else more than I have, thank you, and certainly not anybody to tell me that I need some sort of personality.
Who do you think has a personality in this life? Somebody who lashes out fire at any remark that one passes often well deserved for their haughtiness!!! But that person might just be your friend or your reverie.
So just leave me alone please. Those who don't know me should not judge me by my writings in answer to what people write, which comments I consider highly offensive.

RE: Brunette officially....

Your thread Brunette??? When did you buy it?
You can keep it anyway. I am here by mistake!!
Enjoy your loneliness. It is better than being with the wrong guy.

RE: Guys, nothing to tell about Africa-Europe summit?

I lack nothing anatomically. As for the charm and wit, I also have those in abundance.....see my photo!!!!

RE: Greetings from Sir Wedward...

Seems you have a special liking for the man Smoky!!!

RE: Guys, nothing to tell about Africa-Europe summit?

Just tell me with all the brains of the Africans, when it was the last time that an African invented something.....the electric bulb, the telephone, radio communication, the rocket to the moon, cranes, the automobile, the internal combustion engine, fractional distillation of fuels and of the air itself to seperate the constituent gases??????????????????

The only good thing Africans are good at besides F*****g their own kind, is doing it to our own women....unfortunately!!

RE: Greetings from Sir Wedward...

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN & US TOO. SEEMS JANUARY IS GOING TO BE A DIFFICULT MONTH

RE: Guys, nothing to tell about Africa-Europe summit?

We Europeans then complain how China is ruining our business. We are now signing trade agreements with Africa too. We never seem to learn from our mistakesdoh

RE: Cooking

Lasagne. It is my favourite girlfriend's favourite dish. And she came and we ate half the gigantic dish that I prepared. Tomorrow we will eat the rest. Soory cannot send any by e-mail attachment!!

Today is a public holiday in Malta. So I was home for lunch too. I cooked some of the most delicious risotto I ever tasted...my own recipe too. No leftover sorry, but will forward the recipe to greedy little piggies like myself!!
