Oop's sorry the interest rate was 17% and it wasn't Paul Keating it was Bob Hawke that was in power at that time.And it was 1989- 1990 they were that high.

I was only talking about the high interest rates.
When the Libs were voted out last time we were well in the black.Plenty of money in the coffers.

Rudd worked really hard putting Aus billions back into debt and Ms Gillard has carried on the the Labour tradition of woeful money management.
Thank goodness for the mining industry.

Thanks Toff I want an unlocked phone as no one can come near the TPG rates with no locked in plan ...have been doing my homework and its a jungle out there nowI agree no way would I get one of those iphones I would stuff it up in no time.

We had that here when Keating was Labour Prime Minister, interest rates went up to 19% in the mid nineties I believe we had just built a two story house next to the racetrack at Ballarat with a fair size mortgage... hard times but we saw it though.

We only left because there was a depression in the housing industry and my then husband who was a brickie couldn't get work.
It broke my heart to leave that incredible state as those years spent there were some of the happiest of my life.

Gosh you Doom and Gloom merchants, this has been going on for years in one way or another.We have our ups and downs for goodness sake,we have been through the good times and the bad and somehow we are still here.

For one thing it doesn't matter if property prices go down a bit as it would happen across the board,they will come up again and what would the banks do if loans exceed the value.....which I very much doubt, as long as you keep the payments up whats the problem.

The problems with real estate were caused in England a while back and just a few years ago to a certain extent in the US by lending huge amounts to people who could never afford to pay it back that has not happened here thank goodness.

There is a rare mental condition that some people have called the fear of death they spend their whole life dreading it, so because of that they live in a hell on earth without ever enjoying what life has to offer us now what an awful way to exist.

I remember many years ago when we moved from WA to to the Eastern States we drove a part of the way across the Nullarbor Plain on the South Aus side before it was sealed in 1976.. we travelled over in our Valiant station wagon with our daughter and 3 aging Cocker Spanials in the back, it was very dusty and boring so to keep our daughter occupied and my husband explained to our young daughter that we had to be careful not to knock down any Aboriginals because they lived in the area and would get rather miffed if we happened to hit one so it was her job to warn us if she saw any.

Well a after about an hour of driving going on dusk we were traveling very slowly because of some potholes in the road plus poor visibility from the dust, out of the gloom came about half a doz Aboriginals in full get up waving these boomerangs right in the middle of the road.

Of course there was hysterics from the back seat so I scrambled over in two seconds flat to be with my daughter as we screeched to a halt it turned out that they were selling these Boomerangs which we purchased a couple with great relief and red faces.

Often have a giggle as I don't know who screamed louder... us.... the Cocker Spanials or the Aboriginals.
One of the most embarrassing times of my life.

Oh Nuts you have put this so eloquently this is what I was trying to get at in my own clumsy way thank you.

Many a time I have seen on here as well someone just having a tease but in the written word it comes out all wrong but I know that if it was face to face it would be done with a twinkle in their eye.

Its really great to have interacting forums like this as we get to know different people on here from all walks of life and I know some very good friendships have formed on here because of CS.

I try to use emotions to get over what I am saying but its not the same but better than nothing.

Often I have back pain (hope op will fix it)and I get very grumpy, more often than not it stands out when I post on here according to one of my friends on CS so I am now trying to keep it to myself, its not fair and I have no right to do that.

It made me aware also how other people react when their mood changes through one thing or another.... the main one is when one or two have a wee bit too much to drink on weekends mainly, I think they get a bit more aggressive or down sometimes later in the evening it might only be my imagination but interested if anyone else has noticed it.JMO.

Wash I can get a good reception with 3G but not too sure about the others, I am 2 hours out of Melbourne only... but the reception differs remarkably from phone to phone and you cant test and take them back if they don't work.

Tarns..I feel better there are a few of us not IT minded makes me feel not so useless,they say the iPhone is so easy to use, though I would be worried it might start telling me what to do as its so Hi Tec.



I get in a muddle just trying to retrieve text messages let alone send them.Tried deleting some of them once and lost everything.

I am pretty much a homebody and not having somewhere to come home to would be hard to imagine.

I can cope with the TV but this mobile is what is confusing me and have to have one as so many have not got the home phone anymore.

I am on TPG $350 for under $20 a month no contract so its going to waste.
Plus cant call from home phone as will cost an arm and a leg so must get a mobile as soon as.

Thrust into the future kicking and screaming.

My Sony Ericson walkman has died.(not battery)
Have been scouring the internet trying to find a Mobile just to make phone calls (cant text either) that works ok in a rural area.
I want one that is unlocked as I dont want be on a plan.

OH MY GOSH its a jungle out there as I am the ultimate dummy when it comes to being media savvy my brain cannot seem to take the nextG or 3G in.... GSM is that the analog one where they soon go offline

I am embarrassed by my ignorance and it is impacting on my life in more ways than one as now the Video Recorder is obsolete what is out there that is easy as that and not cost the earth.


Just looking behind my 46in Digital TV with basic Austar which makes it more complicated, wired up with a receiver that died 12 months ago so no surround sound, it is a bloody jungle back there with all those wires.... wouldn't attempt to touch it.

How do others cope with this ????? or am I the one of the few that is left behind.

I think I am! as even Google doesn't seem to have an easy explanation.

Completely overawed by all this technology.

Would appreciate any advice.

I was a smoker for over 30yrs and I am told I look a lot younger than my age.I promised myself I would never critise others when I gave up as there is nothing worse than a reformed smoker.

Cant tolerate nasty drunks though if it directly affects me.

I have five big goldfish in a garden pond they are about 11yrs old,I think they live to a much older age....just googled it the oldest documented one lived to 43yrs but average 15 to 20yrs.
Had a couple of black moors as well they died after 3yrs dont think they liked living outside.

Rob... I know you speak from experience and I hope you can one day let go and enjoy the rest of your life as best you can.

I have found out the hard way that those who seek to destroy us need to only start the process then turn their backs while we finish the the job on our selves as its so much more efficient and soul destroying.

The only way to get even in our mind is to move on....because we are fighting a losing battle in the worst possible way.

The reason is HOW can you fight complete indifference.

What ever are you talking about the fact is that a lot of our members have moved over here and Australia is so much the richer for it.

In fact I have never met a New Zealander or Canadian that I haven't liked or respected.
