Same here. I have nightmares if I watch horror or some crime/thriller movies(such as 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'). After watching 'Wolf Creek', based on real serial killings committed in the State where I live, I kept having flashbacks of graphic scenes!
Yes, get a copy. You will get tons out of it. I already have, and that's only upt to pg 50, with over 300pages still to go!
I haven't started any of it yet. It's all incubating! Mind you, I'm not expected to until mid August when the new semester commences. Except that if I don't start soon, I have no idea how I could possibly manage, as the final draft is due by around mid Nov, plus the marketing material for it. They don't ask for much!!
Hi jlw, I completely agree with you. Every writer, songwriter or otherwise, produces their best work by drawing from deep within. I'm reading Christopher Vogler's book, 'The Writer's Journey', where he discusses in detail, the concept of the 'Hero's Journey' in screenwriting, with all the archetypes involved along the way. From this perspective, real life and the Hero's Journey, mirror each other in synchrony. Fascinating.
Ah, Dagosto, the horror movie!!...Here, in Australia we certainly have many a gruesome murder, or serial killings to provide material for many a horror/thriller film. Yet, as one friend has pointed out, horror has been done to death, and would need to be a really original idea.
As far as budgets go, that is certainly crucial as soeone else posted earlier on this thread. Always a good point to remember. I recall the low budget film, 'Blair Witch Project'...it rode on its own hype, and it did well at the box office....Thanks for your input.
I totally agree with you, that it needs to come from within. Yet, the creative process does include the sharing of ideas with others, as it can help conjure up something that is there within, just needs some help to surface. We just never know how, when are where, this surfacing will occur.
I don't agree though, that a screenplay is written just like one writes music, that it is a bonus if someone else likes it or not. Try telling that to movie makers!!lol The screenplay will not get produced if they don't think it will make any money. It doesn't mean that a screenwriter compromises their values, but it really does need to have the ingredients that would produce a really good film, as unlike when writing music purely for the love of it, the purpose of writing a screenplay, is to get it produced into the final product, a film!!
Writer's block? I can't afford that for much longer. I need to start working on the synopsis, which needs I need to decide on a premise. Thanks for your comments though. It helps to spur me on!!
Ah, I can just see a remake of Jack and the Beanstalk sprouting, with Witchaywoman as the female protagonist...she wakens to find her 'babies' are no longer. Instead, monstrous adults trial up as far as the eye can see...: grin:
Amazing how talk of little green tree frogs lurking in loos, can trigger unexpected meanderings
Thanks for sharing your poem, johnaustin....It must truly be one of life's biggest adventures - that of the journey of discovery, every day, that transpires between two people that love each other. Quite the quest.
I also very much enjoyed the song, Chicago feat. Uplifting of spirits.
Australian movies are in a class of their own, aren't they? I'd like to watch Lantana again, as it's been a while. We have so much talent in this country.
About cafes, so many films, especially sitcoms, make use of the cafe environment. It's one of the natural things Aussies do, second to going to a pub.
Any particular type of relationships, or just any, as long as they are 'real' and believable?
Hi Uli, yes, I agree, a lot of historical research often goes into scriptwriting, which makes it even more of a rewarding experience as viewer. Set against the everyday dramas of fmaily life, well, we can all identify in some way with the various goings on.
Hi Shell, I don't think I've heard of the name, but they sound wonderful for both children and adults as you say. Good children's films are multi-layered like that, aren't they, so all ages gain. the experience as a whole, as you say, makes it just that, magical.
I haven't been to the cinema in ages, just watch film from dvd's. Some sound tracks are absolutely haunting. One that comes to mind is the soundtrack from 'Dracula'. There is a song called 'Ode to a Vampire'..it just makes you shiver, and melt at the same time...I can't think of the band's name (way too early!!)but will find out and post it.
Thanks for your comments, especially for passing on the info about 'Myra Breckenridge'. I will search for both the film and screenplay...it would be a treat to find the two together. Ah, Monty Python films..my favourite ever is 'Life of Brian'...'he's no Christ, he's just a naughty boy'...and 'blessed are the cheesemakers...'; the banter about 'the people's fronto of Judea', and 'the Judean People's Front' was hilarious...the whole thing was just fabulous! A few more screenplays to search out, thanks!
That kind of material really does hook you in, you feel part of their lives and I agree, with the realities of the political intrigue of the day, making it all more inviting. Lots of everyday dramas...
Report him to the internet 'police', if you feel so strongly about his behaviour. I personally don't get into fabricating what if's in my head. The little grey matter that works late at night, I intend to protect it dearly. Go ahead and ponder on all this if you wish. I doubt that if you sent your employer a link to these threads in question, that suddenly you would be added to a child molester's list/fired For goodness sake, you really believe that???
What tickles your film fancy? - Please share
