Stress…A little perspective here. Muslim people are not the problem. Like many who are posting here, I am well aware that a large portion of the Muslim community does NOT embrace the brutality of Shariah and that only the very literal and extreme Muslims do. I think many very peaceful, loving Muslims come to other countries to escape the brutalities of their own countries where Shariah rules. And they should be welcomed with open arms, and given the FULL RIGHTS AND PROTECTIONS offered by our country. They should be able to worship just as all other religions, their mosques should be given the same tax breaks, and we should do our best to accommodate them and make them feel welcome but NOT to the point where it infringes on others. Period.
The problem is Shariah Law, which is very real and NOT some evil ghost story repeated by wicked grandmothers to scare little children. It is as much of a threat to us as it is to the Muslims who want to escape it. Moreover, it’s obviously much more influential than people realize or it would not be doing such a good job of creeping into other cultures and gaining legal foothold.
You have a good mind Stress, so please work with me for a minute and listen to the logic. I posted earlier about the recent court case in NJ where a Muslim man was charged and openly admitted to repeatedly raping and beating his wife – which is his “right” under Shariah Law. He actually won his argument in our US courtroom the first time around and was found not guilty. It was overturned later on appeal, but what if the MUSLIM VICTIM had not appealed? That’s right…the MUSLIM VICTIM. This would have set a legal precedent for Shariah law which would then be entered into the law books and used in later cases to cite its legality. It is a prime example of how Shariah law can start to supersede US law. So ask yourself../Are we not doing the victim a supreme injustice by NOT giving him/her the full protections of our constitution??????? If they come here to escape this brutality, aren’t we letting them down?
Then take it a step further. Let’s say Mr. Joe American, who lives in house A, is found guilty of repeatedly raping and beating his wife. Since he’s an American, he’s going to go to jail for a long time, right? Now Mr. Joe “Muslim” American in the house next door is found guilty of the same thing and the courts say, “Oh. That’s ok because it’s HIS right under Shariah law.” And what’s to stop the next wife beater who gets caught from thinking “Oh no problem…I’ll just convert to Islam and get a pass?”
So back to the proposed ground zero mosque. The problem is not so much that it’s insensitive or that it’s Muslim. The problem is that we have no reason to believe that this Imam is sincere in his intentions, and given what occurred at ground zero and around the world, don’t you think we have a good reason to doubt?
The fact that this Imam has stated (and published), that he wants be US to be “Shariah compliant” rather than “Shariah-free” should worry every liberty-loving American – AND every Muslim who seeks asylum in our country.
Thanks for listening. I would welcome your comments.
Question for V... Off the top of your head, can you think of any instances where Sharia Law has superceded UK law outside of the Muslim courts already established in the UK?
Just curious to know since you guys are a little further down the Muslim trail than we are at the moment.
What ever happened to "When in Rome, do as the Romans?" If I were to move to the UK or anywhere else, I would not dream of trying to change existing laws to accommodate my wants and wishes. It's your house, your laws. If I don't like it, tough!
First, there is most definately a problem growing in the US school systems with regard to "accommodating" demands for Muslim religious practices in the classroom. I personally don't think it's a bad idea to try to accommodate people of different cultures, but it's a serious conflict when the government forbids any other religious practices in school. It's difficult to suddenly give prayer rooms and prayer time to one group, when others are not even permitted to say "Merry Christmas" for fear of offending someone. Schools across the country are grappling with this problem and there are multiple instances where they have been met (and often complied) to demands including everything from providing a time and place to pray, clothing requirements, school holidays, segregated classrooms, etc. Even school lunches are under scrutiny for serving pork or other offensive items.
Employers are facing the same demands and legislation is already being challenged and argued. If passed, The Workplace Religious Freedom Act would revise and strengthen the existing requirements imposed on employers to accommodate the religious practices of their employees.
In short, the legislation will require employers to make reasonable accommodation in the three areas where the vast majority of religious accommodation claims fall: religious clothing, grooming, and scheduling of religious holidays.
As for banking, which is quite different under Sharia Law, wrong again. It has begun and here and is, in fact, finding it's way all over the world, and because it's structure is fundamentally different than our current system, the effects can be quite devastating. ShoreBank would be a prime example.
Here is the response from the customs broker/freight forwarder. If you're interested, I'll give you his contact info. I know him very well and he'll be happy to at least give you some free advice. If he doesn't, I'll beat him up for ya.
"From what I read, it sounds like he needs ocean freight to an ocean port or maybe a consolidation service to an inland city.
You will need an international freight forwarder or service like Econo Caribe who can consolidate LTL (less than container loads) to a lot of destinations.
Then in Spain you will need a customs broker like me to arrange customs clearance for you. Big freight forwarders like Panalpina can arrange everything but they are expensive and impersonal. I can find you one in if you give me all the information. My old warehouse partner Juan is from Spain and has business contacts over there.
For now you might consider the length/width/height and gross weight of the total shipment. Also you might consider finding a big crate to put it in first.
Once you have this general information with the destination and who will receive the cargo, let me know. I can at least give you an idea of what you are looking at. We do this all the time but I just ship the cargo, and the foreign consignee takes care of his own customs entry."
So much for debating nicely, I don't believe we've ever spoken in the past, so I'm a little curious why you feel the need to be so abrasive? Is that really necessary?
Here's something posted earlier by Steve that might address some of your comments.
Rauf is the author of, What's Right with Islam, which suggest that the "American Constitution and system of governance uphold the core principles of Islamic law" and therefore the the "American political structure is sharia-compliant." In addition, he has promoted his ideas to groups like Hizb ut Thrir, who desires to impose sharia law on countries around the world, including the United States.
I forgot to mention that our school system is actually one of the best in the state and they have what I think is an excellent solution to the discipline problem. They created an "alternative" school for these troubled kids, so that even if they do have to expel them, they can continue with their education. It seems to be working better than most districts.
The discipline issue is not caused by the schools themselves, but the government intervention. You simply cannot legislate education with a broad brush. We have to give the schools some atonomy to judge on a case-by-case basis. Special circumstances always exist and they should have some freedom to exercise
That's very true, but if they worked on some sort of "three strikes and you're out" system, at least it would be an incentive. Kicking kids out of the classroom isn't the best answer either - but AT LEAST it removes the problem from the school where other kids are trying to learn. I can't believe the stuff I see where my kids are. Whole classes having to stop everything for 45 minutes while an "unruly" child who refused to take his meds is physically removed from the classroom by four teachers "certified" for the task.
RE: Mosque near Ground Zero - Verbal Diarrhea - Part TWO
I've always felt I was treated extremely well by my employers, well..back when they were making money that is.
