RE: BEST VICE PRESIDENT FOR THE U.S.A.

Hands down it's Ryan. He's bright, articulate, hard-working and just plain nice.

It is also the first sign of how Romney will assemble his executive team...by choosing people with working knowledge in the fields they will be managing. It's the first rule of any good CEO. Surround yourself with capable people and not clueless friends and bundlers.

RE: Mitt blames religeon for not releasing his tax returns

Romney has (or will) release two years of returns. Ten years is just bogus and, as he said, will just take away from the real issues that concern our nation.

Besides...we're all still waiting to see Obama's college records, as other presidents have always produced. Why did he lock them up? Maybe because he applied to school as a citizen of another country? confused We will never know until he releases them, and I - for one - think it's very suspicious that he has not only refused, but hired an army of lawyers to seal them.

RE: Mitt blames religeon for not releasing his tax returns

Ann Romney is not saying they had it worse than anyone else. I didn't realize that was a criteria for the presidency. I just think it's important to note that they did not always live with a silver spoon in their mouths as some would like you to believe. Maybe they COULD have gone to their parents, but apparently they didn't. They lived like "normal" college students and not at the Ritz.

This election is difficult enough without distortions and stereo-types.

RE: Mitt blames religeon for not releasing his tax returns

Ann Romney, on their student days...

Of her student days with Mitt at BYU, Ann said:

“'They were not easy years. You have to understand, I was raised in a lovely neighborhood, as was Mitt, and at BYU, we moved into a $62-a-month basement apartment with a cement floor and lived there two years as students with no income.

“'It was tiny. And I didn’t have money to carpet the floor. But you can get remnants, samples, so I glued them together, all different colors. It looked awful, but it was carpeting.

“'We were happy, studying hard. Neither one of us had a job, because Mitt had enough of an investment from stock that we could sell off a little at a time.

“'The stock came from Mitt’s father. When he took over American Motors, the stock was worth nothing. But he invested Mitt’s birthday money year to year — it wasn’t much, a few thousand, but he put it into American Motors because he believed in himself. Five years later, stock that had been $6 a share was $96 and Mitt cashed it so we could live and pay for education.

“'Mitt and I walked to class together, shared housekeeping, had a lot of pasta and tuna fish and learned hard lessons.'

“'We had our first child in that tiny apartment. We couldn’t afford a desk, so we used a door propped on sawhorses in our bedroom. It was a big door, so we could study on it together. And we bought a portable crib, took the legs off and put it on the desk while we studied. I had a baby sitter during class time, but otherwise, I’d hold my son on my lap while I studied.

“'The funny thing is that I never expected help. My father had become wealthy through hard work, as did Mitt’s father, but I never expected our parents to take care of us. They’d visit, laugh and say, "We can’t believe you guys are living like this." They’d take us out to dinner, have a good time, then leave.

RE: height troubles

My husband was a foot taller than me (6'7" to my 5'7"). He always used to pick on himself saying he was the big, tall, goofy guy that stuck out in a crowd, but it NEVER mattered to me because he was such a great guy in so many ways. smitten

RE: Bend over America if Romney gets elected

There are a million hypotheticals you could apply, but none of them count at the moment. What matters is what kind of formula these two propose and whether or not it's financially feasible. THEN we should all scrutinize the plan objectively, no matter what our party affiliation is. In the meantime, there's no sense going off on a tangent arguing about something that does not exist.

RE: Bend over America if Romney gets elected

I can't see that there is anything inherently wrong with that proposal. Cutting taxes and simplifying the tax code could make it unnecessary for the deductions. If they are revenue neutral, but easier to manage, where is the harm?

Besides, like Jac said, he would just create 10 more. I really don't mind. Whenever I get someone new writing in, I'll play along for a couple of e-mails, then ask for them to send another pic so I know its not HIM...they always disappear after that.

RE: Hidden Profiles

I hide my profile whenever I sign off if I have pictures posted because otherwise I will have more scammers. I think they must work off the little pics that run at the top of the screen. Also, I have a pesky friend with multple profiles who likes to play games.

Also, I hide my profile if I know I won't be on for a long time since I don't want people to think I'm not answering their mail. If your profile is hidden, the mail will get kicked back to them.

RE: Middle Class Having ‘Worst Decade In Modern History’

There have been too many ups and downs over the years to pigeon-hole everything into one nice big theory. But recent statistics from the government show unquestionably is that virtually ALL groups and worse off since the day Obama was inaugurated. Not the day before, not the year before...since the day he came into office.

Five trillion in additional debt and we are all worse off than when he spent it.

RE: Romney Says Corporations Familiar With ‘Low-Tax Havens’

It is much like the administration's constant law suits of the states regarding election ID requirements. We all know the Supreme Court has already ruled in favor of those requirements, but the administration hopes to tie things up in local courts with liberal judges in order to get through this election before the changes are made.

Thieves and liars, one and all.

RE: Romney Says Corporations Familiar With ‘Low-Tax Havens’

It's a moot point either way. Oobie seems convinced that Romney's "ill-gotten" gains came from his personal manipulation of the stock market via insider trading and not his job at Bain Capital.

RE: Romney Says Corporations Familiar With ‘Low-Tax Havens’

I totally agree with you - of for no other reason than the fact that our problems are far too overgrown and out of control to be solved with one president. I think one of the main reasons I really like Romney is that he has real working experience with evaluating problems and streamlining operations in order to make companies work more efficiently.

I would love to see him work his magic on the Federal Government, cause if there was ever a entity that needed stream-lining and re-organization, it's that one.
laugh laugh laugh

Anyway, maybe if we can chop it down to size and start hacking away a the waste and inefficiencies, maybe we can begin to focus more on the other problems that dog us.

RE: Romney Says Corporations Familiar With ‘Low-Tax Havens’

Here it is Ray...

The number of millionaires in the US has declined by 39 percent since 2007, and the so-called super rich, Americans making more than $10 million per year, has fallen by 55 percent. Even the liberal New York Times recently admitted that the rich have become poorer since Obama took office.

The most recent data from the IRS reveals that between 2007 and 2009, income of those in the 99th percentile income bracket fell from $410,096 to $343,927. The 99.9th percentile income fell from $2,155,365 to $1,432,890. The top one percent’s income, which mostly climbed throughout the 2000s, has fallen to lower levels than in 2000. The top one percent earned only 16.9 percent of all adjusted gross income last year, down from 20 percent in 2008.
