RE: Foreign debt up 72.3% under Obama

Cheer up, Peeps. wine

I was just checking the daily polls and overall the news is good.

Gallop shows Romney leading 47 to 45 (Obama)
Rasmussen shows 45 Romney to 44 Obama
Oklahoma sooner poll shows Romney 58 to Obama's 29 (laugh )

Overall, Rassmussen shows Republicans 42 to Dems 41

Should be no problem keeping the House and it looks like we could also pick up at least two Senate seats - (I haven't seen all the reports yet)
Montana 47 - 43
Michigan 46 - 48

More good news....even though Obama probably has a lock on the City of Chicago, it looks like his popularity stops there. The rest of Illinois is not as impressed.

Hope for a Change!

The saga of the U.S. Treasury's involvement with General Motors has become the theater of call and response: the call is Treasury announcing how much it stands to lose on its bailout of GM...since the latest Treasury report filed states that it stands to lose $25.1 billion on the 500 million shares of GM stock it still owns.

At one time the government expected to lose $44 billion on the auto bailout. Even if it takes a $26 billion bath on GM and adds the $1.3 billion loss on Chrysler, that's still a 33-percent improvement on what could have been. And that's called "looking at the bright side."

Well, you know...it's always the squeaky wheel that gets the grease. laugh

But seriously, do you mean that the moderates are the bigger problem because they do nothing to resolve the 1% problems?

Interesting thought!

Oops. Sorry to go off topic. doh

I really just came on to say I feel very badly for this little girl and her family.

RE: Down’s syndrome Pakistani girl accused of blasphemy

I am not a particularly religious person, but I have to say that, at least in the States, much of our everyday morals and values are derived from Christianity. And just this week there was a study released of some 100,000 voters in the red and blue states. Those states with strong Christian numbers are found to be far more charitable than those without.

I also think that it's worth noting that all of our religions here have peacefully and respectfully co-existed (at least in my lifetime), with very little problems until the Muslims extremists came along (that does not include the peaceful, more moderate Muslims). I think the problem there is not OUR lack of tolerance, but rather THEIR lack of tolerance. To Muslim extremists, there is no tolerance for anything or anyone other than themselves.

How do you work with that?

RE: Newsweek "Hit the road Barrack we need a new president"

The interesting thing about this article is that it's from Newsweek. Since Tina Brown's Daily Beast took over Newsweek, the magazine has been one of the most left-leaning publications in the country.

Doesn't bode well for Obama when a publication that has historically worshiped him now runs this piece on its cover...

RE: Foreign debt up 72.3% under Obama

Yup. very mad

Obama is a total disaster. So much so, that I'm actually starting to believe he's deliberately weakening our nation (as opposed to just being completely, totally inept and irresponsible). doh

RE: Single dad here happy and content

You don't really believe that, do you? sigh I can honestly say I can't think of one friend who has ever felt that way. If that's been your experience then I'm very sorry it happened to you.

RE: Material things

Well there's no reason for anyone to criticize your lifestyle choice as long as it isn't hurting anyone else - which clearly it isn't. Maybe you should blow some exhaust in their face as you peel out. laugh uh oh laugh (kidding)

RE: Material things

It's a nice life you have carved out for yourself, but it's not for everyone - and just because others don't enjoy that lifestyle does not mean they are scared or closed-minded.

Some, like myself, enjoy putting down roots...planting something in the ground and watching it grow. Me, I love my animals. I love to watch the babies being born in the pasture, the hummingbirds returning every year...and the quirky mallards that swim in my fountain.

I won't judge you, if you won't judge me. bouquet

RE: Reuters: Obama "one of the best presidents since World War Two." For Wall Street

Looks like I'm in over my head trying to find a good way to compare apples to apples. Part of the problem is that most of Obamacare has yet to be written so there's not many tangibles out there.

What we need is a doctor from both sides to weigh in... dunno

RE: Romney not as Money Smart as you've been told

What's three percent of $250,00 gazillion dollars, Oobie? Why should he care? Romney is a very conservative investor in the sense that his portfolio is EXTREMELY diversified. He WISELY chooses not to have all his eggs in one basket. It's smart, but it's also a mangement nightmare. Moreover, because it's a blind operation - he is deliberately insulating himself from any whiff of impropriety.

It's a service he's happy to pay for.

RE: Romney not as Money Smart as you've been told

He couldn't do any worse than Obama has. doh

RE: Romney not as Money Smart as you've been told

Oh Ooby. laugh laugh laugh Do you really think Mitt Romney doesn't know this? rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

Clearly he doesn't have the time or inclination to sit around all day managing money - and money DOES need to be managed - so he pays others to do so and that's his CHOICE.

Comsidering Romney graduated from Harvard Law School AND Harvard Business School with both a law degree and an M.B.A., not to mention years of remarkable success in the business world, I really don't think "stupid" is a good word for him. Particularly since Obama's background is far less impressive.

Time to find another nit to pick.

So I will try to find a simplified explanation of all the components of your plan and attempt to find the ways Obamacare differs. Give me a few days and I'll report back!

RE: Reuters: Obama "one of the best presidents since World War Two." For Wall Street

Just out of curiosity, which national plan do you think works the best? (I've heard New Zealand's is quite good).

It would be interesting to compare a good working plan to the albatross known as Obamacare.

RE: Reuters: Obama "one of the best presidents since World War Two." For Wall Street

As long as there was a THOROUGH feasibility study that backs up the plan and examines all the unintended consequences, why not? dunno

But this business of "we have to pass the plan before you see what's in it" is just utter, incomprehensible irresponsibility.

I think you just made my day!

RE: Reuters: Obama "one of the best presidents since World War Two." For Wall Street

I don't know the actual answer to that, but I can tell you that Obama has cut Medicare to the point that starting in January physicians will not be able to accept Medicare patients because the cuts effect their billing reimbursements. They cannot absorb the high cost of education, medical equipment, staffing regulations, and liability insurance when their compensation is less than the cost.

Moreover, US hospitals run UP the cost of care because they HAVE TO PERFORM A WHOLE HOST OF UNNECESSARY TESTS to avoid litigation.

To succeed, we need a plan where all the components work together to support one another and drive down costs. Obamacare seems to do the opposite.

RE: Reuters: Obama "one of the best presidents since World War Two." For Wall Street

I swear. I'm really not an ogre. bouquet I just want things to work. What difference does it make if it is public or private, as long as it works? dunno

RE: Reuters: Obama "one of the best presidents since World War Two." For Wall Street

We would be in MUCH better shape if someone would just go through all the vast wasteland of government agencies and eliminate the waste and fraud. This would hurt nobody since it is only waste and fraud - yet the savings would be tremendous. Romney is good at this...it's what Bain Capital does best.

But with that said, even Ryan's plan allows for the budget to grow each year (with the exception of two years), and will take YEARS to balance the budget.
sigh

RE: Reuters: Obama "one of the best presidents since World War Two." For Wall Street

Either way, we only have two choices come November. To many of us, it's pretty clear cut that Obama's way leads to utter failure. I actually find that I trust the Romney/Ryan ticket. Ryan, in particular, is a working class success story who understands and will never forget his origins. Romney not so much so, but he is gracious and, I think, compassionate.

Nobody really knows a thing about Obama except he doesn't particularly like America or what it stands for.

RE: Reuters: Obama "one of the best presidents since World War Two." For Wall Street

Well that's what I was saying earlier about how the internet has helped change things. Previously, CBS, NBC and ABC were the key sources of public information and they got really fat and sassy believing they were the be all and end all of election strategy (and let's not forget there is BIG MONEY in government advertising).

Now they have to compete for the first time in ages, and they are ill-prepared and stumbling in the process.
