RE: Mitt Romney choose Paul Ryan to be his REP runmate.....

Hey Monte,

I am by no means well-versed in SS and Medicare, but I did just read that they are going to officially cut the amount of SS reimbursements people receive. New retirees will now be getting less in benefits than they paid in. When you think about it - that's pretty unfortunate. Why pay money to the government for retirement if you aren't going to get it all back? Wouldn't it make more fiscal sense to save it on your own so you can keep it? Privatization would allow for this where the government can't because, generally speaking, the government can't manage it's way out of a paper bag.

My sincere belief is that Paul Ryan is just facing the problem straight on and working to fix it. Social Security and Medicare are in deep trouble and will continue to go bankrupt without reforms. Period. We HAVE to do something - and there really is nothing wrong with privatization as long as the formula works.

If there are any two people I would trust to make the right choices here, it would be Romney and Ryan. They are the only ones who have half a brain when it comes to fiscal management.

PS... That sux about the senior housing - and New Jersey is already so darn expensive. sad flower sad flower

RE: Mitt Romney choose Paul Ryan to be his REP runmate.....

Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan make an extraordinarily strong team. They have more financial brains than most of Washington combined and they both have INTEGRITY.

Anyone concerned about turning America's economy around should be jumping for joy at this combination.

RE: Women: Is The Democratic Party In The United States American Or Is It Like Europe Socialist?

Now here is the full quote, just for the record.

"Liberalism has its own history and its own tradition. Socialism has its own formulas and its own aims. Socialism seeks to pull down wealth; Liberalism seeks to raise up poverty. [Loud cheers.] Socialism would destroy private interests; Liberalism would preserve private interests in the only way in which they can be safely and justly preserved, namely, by reconciling them with public right. Socialism would kill enterprise; Liberalism would rescue enterprise from the trammels of privilege and preference. Socialism assails the pre-eminence of the individual; Liberalism seeks, and shall seek more in the future, to build up a minimum standard for the mass. Socialism exalts the rule; Liberalism exalts the man. Socialism attacks capital; Liberalism attacks monopoly. These are the great distinctions which I draw, and which, I think, you will think I am right in drawing at this election between our philosophies and our ideals. Don't think that Liberalism is a faith that is played out; that it is a philosophy to which there is no expanding future. As long as the world rolls round Liberalism will have its part to play - a grand, beneficent, and ameliorating part to play - in relation to men and States."

RE: Women: Is The Democratic Party In The United States American Or Is It Like Europe Socialist?

If you were to agree and accept this definition, then I would have to say our current administration is 100 percent Socialist.

doh

RE: Women: Is The Democratic Party In The United States American Or Is It Like Europe Socialist?

Well since you haven't posted an opinion one way or the other, there's nothing to bash. laugh But I do agree with you that there is no need or reason to bash on a subject like this. So here is an interesting description of Socialism from a well known European source... Let's see what it says and whether or not the current US Democrat party lines up.

Just so you know, I've temporarily deleted parts of the quote for clarity purposes since the speaker was comparing socialism to liberalism (which was not your question and which no longer applies in our current situation).

I will add them in later, but for now, let's just look at one European's definition of socialism.

"Socialism seeks to pull down wealth...
Socialism would destroy private interests...
Socialism would kill enterprise...
Socialism assails the pre-eminence of the individual...
Socialism exalts the rule...
Socialism attacks capital"

If you were to agree and accept this definition, then I would have to our current administration is 100 percent Socialist.

P.S. I'm not sure what you mean about telling you what's going on there. Can you be more specific?

RE: Absolute proof' Obama was Indonesian citizen

It was just a story that I found interesting because of the unexpected answer he gave me. I would have thought the problem was due more to union labor costs or mayby losses to their retirement funds, government regulations, or whatever. I am in frequent contact with the person so I'll be happy to ask about the Ford thing. Can you tell me more specifically what you mean though? I'm not sure I understand what you're talking about.

If you want to engage in debate, I'm happy to do so. But you're going to have to quit putting words in my mouth and hurling insults. There are plenty of real facts and opinions to discuss without dragging the discussion into the mud.

RE: Absolute proof' Obama was Indonesian citizen

I have never claimed, nor would I even want to try to outline all the problems that have led to our current situation since they are many. I do agree that past administrative policy from both sides have contributed. I was simply responding to one post from someone who was doing that.

It is sickening how many ignorants believe "it's all Bush's fault and you don't like Obama because he is black," over and over and over again as if it is the liberal mantra they recite daily with their Koolaide. Talk about avoidance and cherry picking!!!

The problems started long before Before Bush and have nothing to do with skin color. Considering your premise here, you should agree.

RE: Absolute proof' Obama was Indonesian citizen

Apparently liberals aren't too keen on balancing budgets either,as witnessed by Obama's total failure, even though he had total control of the house and senate for two full years.

I also remember that the policy of issuing poorly-secured real estate loans underwritten directly or indirectly by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It began with the Clinton Policy changes made in 1995 required investment in real estate previously thought too risky. The requirement were further stiffened in 1999. An attempt to roll back the the requirements to make risky loans was rejected by the Federal Reserve Board in 2004. ...

RE: Absolute proof' Obama was Indonesian citizen

It all started with Jimmy Carter and the Community Reinvestment act which strong armed banks into making completely irresponsible loans because he thought everyone should have the right to own a home regardless of their ability to afford one.

Later down the road, Democrats in Congress blocked attempts to reform Freddie and Fannie. The Bush Administration went to Congress on three separate occasions asking that regulation of Freddie and Fannie be tightened.

Prominent Democrats ran Fannie Mae, the same government-sponsored enterprise that donated campaign cash to top Democrats. ... According to an article by Kathleen Day in the Oct. 8, 2003, Washington Post, Barney Frank opposed giving the Bush administration the right to approve or disapprove business activities that "could pose risk to the taxpayers." He told the Post he worried the Treasury Department "would sacrifice activities that are good for consumers in the name of lowering the companies' market risks."

Just a month before, Frank had aggressively thwarted reform efforts by the Bush administration. He told The New York Times on Sept. 11, 2003, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's problems were "exaggerated," a gross miscalculation some five years later with costs estimated to be in the hundreds of billions.

"These two entities – Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac – are not facing any kind of financial crisis," Frank said to the Times. "The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing." ...

RE: Absolute proof' Obama was Indonesian citizen

Fannie and Freddie were not, by themselves, wholly responsible for the crisis. But as government sponsored entities (GSE's), the value of the mortgages they re-sold on the secondary market was implicitly guaranteed by the government. This caused them to hold less capital to support their mortgages in case of loss. As a result, Fannie and Freddie took on risk to be profitable but knew they wouldn't suffer the consequences if things turned south.

The government set them up this way to allow them to buy qualified mortgages, insure them and resell them to investors. This freed up funds for banks to make new mortgages. They were traditionally involved in at least half of all new mortgages made each year. By December 2007, when banks began to constrict their lending, Fannie and Freddie were really the only lender still operating, responsible for 90% of all mortgages.

Barney Frank flat out LIED to congress with his assertions that all was well with Freddie and Fannie - as it was later proven - they were cooking the books in order to get their big bonusus, which they did. How curious that instead of getting fired, he now works for Obama

RE: Absolute proof' Obama was Indonesian citizen

"he points to a list of misguided Republican actions that have led the country to economic disaster: the runaway growth of public debt resulting "not from big spending by the Democrats, but instead the Republican Party's embrace ... of the insidious doctrine that deficits don't matter if they result from tax cuts,"

I wonder...does he bother to point to the fact that it was the democrats who repeatedly voted down Bush and McCain when they warned (OVER AND OVER AGAIN) of the impending financial disaster if we did not do something to provide oversight to Freddie and Fannie?

And did he mention that Bush was saddled with a democratic congress and that it's congress who spends the money?
