RE: Must be Financially Secure

Hummm, who are you addressing, Lilme? I'm confused.

RE: what your state or province is famous for

That's easy. People think that in Maine we all eat lobster constantly. And that moose are in everyones backyard. The truth is our real claim to fame should be lumber - lots of log trucks rolling day and night. And tourism because the coast is really beautiful.

RE: I Remember The days When......

Popsicles were five cents, ice cream sandwiches were ten cents and doctors would come to the house if you were sick.

RE: Potatoes?

I love potatoes. They are easy to grow, come in all sorts of varieties and colors. One local man I know used to enter 20 varieties of potatoes in the produce competition at the Skowhegan fair! And, of course, they are so good to eat. Remember when the all American diet was "meat and potatoes"?

RE: If you could have a super power, what would it be?

I'd choose to be able to be invisible. Then I could be like the "fly on the wall" to see what folks are really doing vs what they say they do.

RE: what state /province are you from?

Vermont, originally

Moved to Maine three years ago

Catch More Flies With Honey??

I was just channel surfing on the TV and stumbled over Shania Twain's video "Party For Two" She was so upbeat and fun that if I were a guy, I would surely want to date her. So guys, tell us, is it really true that a girl can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar? Does a happy woman attract you more than a lady who is serious, desparately looking or has a sad tale to tell?

RE: You've gotta work it!

I'm going to practice my italian!

RE: Expectations

Yes, we really do need an instant messenger. On this subject of compromise, I think it would be refreshing if a profile had a section called "What are your faults". Like Rob said, nobody can be perfect.

RE: What kind of work do you do

And shouldn't we follow the work we love? I've noticed that sometimes it's hard to find time for a relationship because our work takes up so much time. Maybe a balance between work and play is the answer to a sucessful relationship?

RE: You've gotta work it!

Holy Cow, I just read this whole thread and now I have to run out and buy lowfat whipped cream because the whipped cream in my refrigerator is not low fat and then I need to find a playmate. Acurangel, find me a nice Italian man and send him HERE! Hahaha.

RE: I met the man of my dreams on this site!

Finding love can certainly be a roller coaster ride. Some days you're up and some days you're down. But always keep hope in your heart because you know you deserve to be loved.

RE: What kind of work do you do

Wow, this is interesting. I hope other members post on this thread. I was trained to be a guidance counselor. Fate intervened with the birth of my second son who is handicapped and now I am his full time caretaker. He does go to school, which gives me time to be a farmer. I raise chickens, turkeys and lots of organic vegetables. I enter my produce in local fairs and frequently win enough prize money to buy the seeds for the next year. I love my job and all that I have learned from my son. I'm also very proud of my older son and daughter who have done well in their careers. Long winded answer (right dpw?) but now you know :)

RE: If You Could Build Your True Love From Scratch, What would be your ingredients?

Build a man - what an idea. like ordering a computer from Dell and customizing it? WELL-L-L. Give me a Keanu Reeves chassis, Tom Hanks sense of humor, Johnny Depp sense of individuality and independence and with a dash of Clint Eastwood thrown in. Whoa Baby!

RE: Tell us about the people you've met here so far

I've started sending invitations too, but I'll have to be up at 3 am like Live4U to invite all the guys I like. Heheheheee! Do you think we should start a thread titled "New Here? Please Introduce Yourself"?

RE: Tell us about the people you've met here so far

Isn't it great how many of us seem to start and end our day here - we get that cup of coffee, fire up the computer and enjoy the company of people who have become friends. Rock on, Forum and welcome to all you new folks. I hope you find what you are looking for :)

RE: singles site or real world?

Hahahaha, if good things were said about me while I was away, maybe I should go awy more often! Just kidding....I live in a small town with a population that is mostly elderly. Using a singles site, I can make contact with people outside this area which is a real plus.

RE: You've gotta work it!

I'm not even going to touch this one heeheheeheehe.

RE: "I NEED A DATE WHAT THE HECK AM I MISSING"...

I agree, work it and be aware that there is no such thing as instant gratification in online dating. Be glad for what you are and where you are and good things will come your way when you least expect it.

RE: BEVERLY HILLS OR SECLUDED HOUSE IN COUNTY???

You're going to love this concept - BOTH ! - just travel back and forth! Here in Maine, a lot of folks live in Florida during the winter and come back here in May. Of course if I had to choose one or the other, I would choose the country and my farm.

The "Gentlemanly Thing To Do"

Thanks folks for the welcome back. I won't want to be anyplace else :) I posted this thread because I wanted to hear the man's point of view. It also evolved from thinking about safety, courtesy and manners, which should be observed by both men and women. I think being ladies and gentleman goes a long way in preventing hurt feelings and disasters in this dating process.

RE: forums

Sounds good to me too. I will start looking and inviting. I don't do much profile reading here, nor do I email many guys. But this would be a good way to meet new people and a great way to send an interesting man an email other than lamely saying "hey I liked your profile" :)

RE: What if you get bored or frustrated here? Please don't quit completely, and be careful out there!

I sure wish ann marie would return, if she has the time and the inclination!

The "Gentlemanly Thing To Do"

It was mentioned in a previous post that there are certain things that women expect a man to do - like the man travels to meet the woman or the man pays for the plane ticket or the man gives out his phone number vs the woman giving out her number. Now guys, please tell us woman what MEN think is included in a list of chivalrous things a man should do at the beginning of an online dating relationship.

RE: What if you get bored or frustrated here? Please don't quit completely, and be careful out there!

I'm not quiting ever again! I had an online hook-up turn out to be a red flag situation and my first reaction was to get rid of all my online dating profiles and just hide. After the dust had settled I really missed this forum. The "finding a date thing" is unimportant compared to the conversation and friendship I have found here.

RE: How much younger or older would you date

Perhaps it's not the age but what you have in common. Like crazyboynva said, his women liked to party, or as in the case of dpw, he and the older woman just did it and did it LOL. I have dated men who were younger (11 years tops) and found them to be "energetic. I'm still hoping to find a man my age or older who has the energy of a younger man.

RE: singles site or real world?

I'd rather meet someone in the real world but have few opportunities. Part of my "hissy fit profile deletion" was partly because I thought it would be better to just meet someone in person. But then I decided I can do both and enjoy the company of folks on this forum.

RE: Are there any good men left?

Yes, cutelildevilsmom, it's those red flags that we need to be conscious of...and, just because we might be "attracted" to someone doesn't mean that person is the one. Heck, I think lots of guys have great pictures on here and can charm the wallpaper off the walls, but.......

RE: "where`s all the good organic meat?

Around here, it's "raise it yourself". I have free range chickens who give me wondeful eggs and I raise turkeys. In Maine, there are many farms who sell organic meat and vegetables. The prices are higher than non-organic products. For livestock, the organic feed is expensive, hence the higher meat prices. Long winded reply, but this is an interest of mine :)

RE: Flower or email?

My understanding of the flower thing from a woman's point of view - it's way of telling a man that you are interested in hearing from him.
