RE: Pride in your apperance

The guys with less than 10% body fat just do not appeal to me at all - over 15 looks better - and with the women - the girl at 30% body fat looks better than the one at 25% (but that's just my perception of course!) I guess it's cos she is curvier and if I was into women then it would be curvy ones. blushing

RE: Heating Oil Prices

That's a great story.
Did you get the ring back? And flog it for diesel?

RE: Pride in your apperance

Have heard body fat % is more accurate than bmi but had no idea how the numbers compared - reading this went and looked at pic of woman with 40% body fat v man with 40% body fat and there's a very clear difference. Interesting.

RE: What's on your mind .... Part 5

€200 would probably buy this
Keep an eye on adverts and in the run up to Christmas peeps will start to get a bit more stuck for cash and you've more chance of getting them to drop prices.

RE: What do you normally have for breakfast

I have a banana or melon first thing and a cup tea, drop kids to school and do 6km with the dog and home for a late breakfast - today it was porridge and sultanas, some days it's bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes, fruit and yoghurt or beans on toast. A bit of variety. Like porridge and bacon days best.

RE: Stumped!

I turn to strangers for the words that are etched upon my heart.
(leaves you with lots of rhyming words as well) ....
And also you know what you what you want to say - it doesn't matter if it rhymes - just as long as it brings you peace.

RE: Skyfall.....

My OH asked if he should find someone to go see this with as I am not a fan of modern cinema in the main - just not my bag. But now you have me wondering just what I'd be missing ....
thanks - I might just risk a couple of hours of my life and go watch but I'll be back to complain if you've given over to hyperbole and I end up sleep
Fantastically readable review no matter the outcome. thumbs up

RE: This was sent to me and I'd like to share it with you all :)

thumbs up
lovely sentiments.

RE: Food Poverty and Consequence.....

thumbs up good post.
I have a friend working with SVP, she was telling me about visiting a single woman in Galway city with 2 kids & in her words "there was nothing but half a pack of pasta and a bottle of ketchup, she was expecting the ESB to be cut off & had no oil and fuel. Herself and the kids were sleeping on the sofa together for warmth."
She was give an ESB payment, €40 shopping vouchers and some coal and briquettes. I'd fully expect her to be seeking further assistance sooner rather than later. Yet her weekly income will be very similar to mine.
People need to be shown the difference between need and want - and how far a pound of lean mince can go ... I did see in my local social security office this week that they were doing men's basic cookery classes free for unemployed.
My kids know how to make their own pancakes, burgers, cakes and bread (age appropriate stuff) - hopefully they'll learn more as they get older and it will be second nature to them but is it upto schools or parents to make sure kids have these basic culinary skills?

RE: christmas on your own?/

I have done in the past.
This year will do santa with kids in the morning and then they will go to their paternal grandparents for Xmas dinner and rest of the day.
Walk the dog & then I will have something easy to prepare and cook (preferably in a foil tray to avoid washing up) or I did think of going to volunteer somewhere.
What are you doing?

RE: Travelling around Ireland

I second the Dooey hostel - Mary and Leo are fab, went for a few days and stayed over a week. Great spot.

RE: Build your body = Build your confidence.

I think excess weight very definitely contributes to confidence/self esteem issues but that losing the weight can be the easy bit - it's dealing with the underlying issues that caused the weight gain in the first place that is crucial. Less than 30% of people who lose weight manage to keep it off - so understanding your triggers/changing your habits and having a compelling goal all help to reinforce your weight loss.
Great to hear that your doing so well & it's having such beneficial results. I've lost 3 1/2 stone and have another one and a bit to go - feels great, I've not only got a new life plan but actually taking action as well.

RE: optimistic

I am now - not always been like that. Massively optimistic - mostly as I've not only now got a plan, I am acting on it.
yay

RE: Married Men On C.S

Right. But with a one month old baby he'll probably make out it's all her fault for neglecting him or some such claptrap & she's emotionally and financially vulnerable - if you did tell him I think she'd "forgive" him ....
If you want to tell her then do - don't try and justify your desire to out him as concern for a woman you have never met .... to thine self be true and all that.

RE: Does long distance relationships ever last???

Been doing a 300 mile round trip relationship for over 18 months - it's not easy but it's not forever. We do plan on relocating together in the next 6 months or so.
I like still having my independance but it definitely lacks spontaneity, especially with kids involved. But time we do spend together is to coin a corny term "quality time" smitten
It's like everything - as long as both partners are on the same page, have the same expectations and future aspirations it can work.

Anyone do paleo?

Thanks for reply. Been doing a weight loss thing for a while - convinced thet there's way too much sucrose/fructose/wheat - carbs from the wrong sources etc in my everyday diet. Yet most commercial diets are geared that way.
Hard when your indoctrinated to see fat as the enemy to start embracing but I'm sure it's insulin resistance rather than fat consumption that's my problem (although gen bloods do not put me in diabetic category).
More I learn, the more confused I get - it's not difficult laugh

Anyone do paleo?

I'm trying to go grain free (or at least drastically reduce grain intake) to see how it affects my health/mood/weight etc but struggling with the kids - I think I'll have to aim to just half their intake for now.
I know it's some way off a full paleo diet but it's a start. I think. Anyone recommend any recipes/reading etc.

RE: Granola

There's a great recipe for granola bars -
-
you can just make them any way you like with different nuts, syrups etc. Find it much easier to control how much sugar (or how little) they have as the shop ones are way too sweet.
Cheap too once you have the whey powder.

kids hurling helmet

Thanks will have a look if Smyths doesn't have them.

kids hurling helmet

I never thought to try there but did look online and couldn't see them - will give them a ring tomorrow. thanks.

kids hurling helmet

Anyone any ideas were to get a cheap hurling helmet for DD - age 6. Been looking in Galway but I don't know where to look beyond a couple of sports stores and €80 seems a bit much when she might not keep it up.

RE: anyone sunbathe today

There were calls in the US for babies who were breast fed to be given vitamin D shots as there had been cases were the parents did not expose the kids to sunlight at all & they were becoming ill (is it rickets) as formula milk has Vit D in it.

RE: Females

thumbs up

RE: Would you date a traveller?

rolling on the floor laughing

RE: A really, really, really quick one......

You'll be in for it when she finds out about June ....

RE: The simple things in life

I love Garryland - especially as the sun sets, it gets dark all of a sudden and quite eerie. This time of year I'm always sorry I can't tell which mushrooms are edible.
Other simple pleasures
- going swimming without the kids - time to just enjoy my own company and thoughts.
- songs that make you sing your heart out when you hear them.
- strong tea at almost any time of day.

RE: Afternoon

Hi hun - how's it going? Just back from swimming & starving - waiting for my lunch to cook - no match here - I'm eyeing up some 5 inch killer heel boots on fleabay & wondering do I treat myself....

What would be your "I've made it" purchase?

laugh
but what would you do with all the residents?

What would be your "I've made it" purchase?

A1 thanks and you know Everton mints are better than sour grapes laugh and Alex's wrigley ...

What would be your "I've made it" purchase?

Would you not feel regret at making into a mausoleom ? There's some grounds I'd love to buy and bulldoze .... but wouldn't taking football out of Anfield be wrong?
