Nostradamus Predicted…

Say what you want about Nostradamus; the man is here to stay. His book Quatrains, filled with 4 line predictions, was written in 1555 and is still in print today.

Nostradamus (Michel de Nostredame) is the famous prophet from the 16th century. He is noted for having "predicted" the French Revolution, Napoleon, Adolph Hitler, the atomic bomb, the 9-11 atrocity, JFK and RFK Assassinations, and just about everything else that has happened since the time of his predictions.

Nostradamus himself wrote that his prophecies only went as far as the year 3797. Will the world will end late in the 38th century? Only time will tell.

The problem with his work is that it was written in French and in rhymes; thus very difficult to translate to other languages. Different people translate it differently.

Below, in the comment section, I have listed a few of his predictions and what happened afterwards.

More about 911 perhaps?

He also wrote

The year 1999, the seventh month,
from the sky will come a great King of Terror:
Resuscitating the great King of the Mongols,
Before and after Mars to reign Happily.

And

In the City of God there will be a great thunder,
Two brothers torn apart by Chaos,
while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb,
The third big war will begin when the big city is burning.
I am a believer of Nostradamus. I find his predictions very interesting and fascinating. I often watch the History channel and he is the topic. It`s amazing how he has predicted so many events that have actually occurred!
Cat, I did try to read an English translation many years ago, it had notes to explain the various predictions, it struck me that most of the "Predictions" were in the translation rather than the original writing, I came away with the impression the words had been manipulated to make a saleable book, it will be interesting to hear what Del has to say as he has no doubt read it in the original form. dunno wave
I too agree with ` Z` lets see what the original version saysprofessor
His predictions are all rubbish. He was on some seriously strong herbs.
Maddog, so you're suggesting the leaves he was reading may not have been tea leaves dunno laugh rolling on the floor laughing laugh wave
Hi Lalasierra,

Yes, there is no doubt that Nostradamus enjoys a large following. He is here to stay; for some time to come in any way.

Thanks for your comment!

Hi Waf,

I'm glad that I could have solicited a response from you.

Yep, Idiocy is idiocy, but also none as blind as those who do not wish to see.
Z

When you make as many predictions as he had, you have to hit the spot with some of them, but he had to do something right somewhere. He became popular long before the first English translations; amongst French speaking people! And those who can read French.
dunno confused cheers
That exactly why people have to open their eyes Cat theres real and theres story tellers. One more thing i predicted as a teenager there'd be magnetic travel-do i get a prize.laugh yay wave
Funny Waf, I also pondered along those lines!

Hi Cat, handshake

I looked at it a long time ago and I never made anything big out of it.

You can find the texts there in French and English and some of the events in his life:

I would say the translation is very good.Since it is in 16th century French and as you know, some meanings from that time can't be translated accurately.

In my opinion, the key comes from interpreting the verses. Locales are different, the plague was a scourge of the time and technology was limited. Nostradamus had to walk a dangerous path with religion.
He may have been the Astrologist of the Queen, but he could have ended up on the gallows if he didn't concealed some of his writings.

From there to predict the future, I don't put much credence in it.

handshake cheers
I'm now working on perpetual motion!

Okay-well i gave the smoking up any way.cheers thumbs up thumbs up Yes they said it was good for you once--guess we were misled.doh
Good morning Cat,
I have watched shows and read articles on Nostradamus and his prophecies. All I can say is that it is interesting but translation is very important as the others noted.
Catfoot, I to find Nostradamus fascinating, but have you heard of the Hopi- predictions? Take a look, it is to be found on the Internet and it is very good predictions like the Nostradamus ones. Bit I thought Nostradamus' predictions ended in 1999, so have not bother to payed much attention to them after that. I do have his little book with all these predictions, but as I said I thought they ended in 1999...That's what I have heard anyway.teddybear
Waf, this was really said:

If excessive smoking actually plays a role in the production of lung cancer, it seems to be a minor one.

Hi Bajanshay

If you have not yet done so, read Delatude's comment. very interesting.

Cat, It survived because he wasn't too explicit in his texts.
Even the plague didn't kill him.

This reminds me of a story I read at the time of the plague.

In a small town, they captured 3 robbers who were going into the houses of people who died of the disease to pillage. A dangerous occupation as the plague was lethal and had no cure. It was contracted by contact with the fleas carried on rodents and domestic animals.
The Councilmen were surprised that while the inhabitants were dying of the disease, the robbers were healthy and appeared to be immune.
It was found that they rub themselves with vinegar before exercising their profession.
Needless to say, this is not the disease that killed them! cheers handshake
Thanks Wel,

I will check it out.

No his predictions end in 3797;
Ok, then we're quits again!

Cat, I dont believe in "predictions"/prophesies.... regarding Bible, it is a matter of interpretation... what/which is the true, no idea.. so one day each time, and battling/living with the "prediction" of the day.
Hi Bog

Hmm, I understand that, I was not making a point. Just an observation!
dancing cheers handshake
Hi Del,

Vinegar of all things!dancing
Cat, Stefan Paulus was able to sell a few millions books... so we might also start to think how to write "CS Nostradamus Predictions".. and sell it!!

reviews...
Boggie...

You think it can work?
rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
Cat, i have seen too many crazy ventures... even selling rocks as pets... I am sure anything has to do with future sells...
Yes, those pet rocks were crazy; but they sold. Especially here. South Africans are very naive!

Trying so hard in trying to keep up with overseas!

laugh laugh
not sure about "South Africans are very naive".. but some are, as everywhere...
Believe me, we are! And so aware of status! Everything we own are status symbols.

Last time i was in SA, was 9 years ago... quite a few changes; but these “consumerism” are all over… people are only showing the outside – it is easier.
Bog

You start talking to a guy at a party, stranger or aquaintance, and it is uncanny how quickly he will work his latest purchase or the location of his house into the conversation. In a pub/ladiesbar it is even worse - there they brag with what they don't even have. All millionaires in the pubs.
Cat, if what you describe is the actual way of living, definitely SA is not on my list of places to live. I gave up living in US because of too much “awesome”. By the way, lately, I am finding also too many millionaires in the pubs.laugh
Hi Cat, give me a few years and I too want to visit those Pubs you speak oflaugh Now its out of the question.confused
Nostradamus verses are always highly interesting for fans of Middle Age and Latin Translation.
The only problem consists in thousands of interpretations ones can do about his famous "predictions". Any of his verses have several senses so you can interprete them how it pleases you, and your neighbour will give them another sense.. I think his books are a great hit but nobody found the Key of the whole Mistery yet confused
Sorry Bog, I had to depart very suddenly! Did not intend to be rude.
beer cheers handshake
Hi Luke, If I had the cappacity, I could sit in the corner of a pub and listen to the guys all day!

Hi Lovemedofr

I think that is fairly accurately summarised. Pity he was not here to explain!
