If a tree falls in a forest...

We don't need to get philosophical about it. It makes a sound. It does. Do you need to see webcam video as proof? It makes a sound and that's my final answer!

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name...

There are dozens and dozens of popular songs that for whatever reason, I don't really care for. A Horse With No Name is one of them.
Written by Dewey Bunnell, performed by America and released on their self titled album in 1972.
A little sleep inducing, but it's actually a good song.

'Watch' this...

I estimate the percentage of iPhone users versus 'the other phone' users to be as high as 70/30 and many most of them have an apple watch to go along with their setup. The phone rings and they look at their wrist. Most of the time, you don't hear their phone, but you see them looking as text messages or Twitter feeds scroll across the screen.

Digital or simulated analog watch face, some try to emulate what is on the main screen to their iPhone.

One guy in the design department wears Apple earbuds and talks through the Wi-Fi connection in his watch while his iPhone sits in a charging cradle.

So the idea of carrying around a phone that does everything hasn't replaced a wristwatch, as I found if it's not an Apple watch, it's the 'old standard' watch.

However, if you've got money... nothing says it more than a diamond watch.

In summary: It would appear having a cellphone doesn't eliminate the need or desire for a wristwatch, probably because watches are often worn as jewellery that happens to tell time.

Apple watches are on sale this weekend!

Tuesday's Gone...

You can call off the dogs as the Twitter King's prediction that he would be indicted today didn't work out. Hopefully none of you took the midnight train to Manhattan to protest today.

The DA's office made this statement: "We will not be intimidated by attempts to undermine the justice process, nor will we let baseless accusations deter us from fairly applying the law."

Better luck next week...

(Songwriters: Allen Collins / Ron Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd)
And I don't know
Oh, where I'm going
I just want to be left alone
Well, when this train ends
I'll try again, oh but I'm
I'm leaving my woman at home, Lordy
Tuesday's gone, with the wind
Tuesday's gone, with the wind...

My Blues impairment...

I've been working with a contractor and his clients for a few weeks now. Tweaking the layout of a remodeling job. Originally, it was a kitchen. Then they added the master bath, display, laundry and window seats for 2 bedrooms.
I waited for my finishing department to make a stain sample a week ago and it was rejected by the clients based on the grain of the wood. We selected a different cut of wood and requested another color sample be made. I asked for that to be ready last Friday and was told Monday.

The project is about 40 miles from my house and I rescheduled the meeting for Monday, late afternoon. The problem was the finishing department didn't get the sample for me. I made it to my appointment, went over all the details, sizes and prices... except I didn't have a wood stain sample for them to approve.
Yeah, it's not a good thing for a salesman to close a deal when the key to the deciding factor is missing. I couldn't get the deposit without final approval of the color. This means another trip... when the freaking sample is ready.

I offered excuses but the contractor is holding the deposit check until the clients are happy with the color. So, I left empty handed. But... they want to add wall units in two rooms. I tool measurements and details and will have a price for additional work from the clients/contractor.

Kinda annoyed, on the way back home, I tuned to a blues station on satellite radio to hear guitarist Joe Bonamassa hosting a show about some female blues legends.
It's been 55 years since I first started learning music, guitar in general. Quit and started back a few times along the way. While rock music is my main focus, I find myself leaning toward British blues rock that was created by guys in England listening to old records of Black American blues artists. It's Blues with a British twist. A favorite group was FREE who had billing as a blues band.

Back to the radio show, Joe played songs by Jessie Mae Hemphill, an artist who's name I didn't recognize. One of the first things I did when I arrived home was to do some YouTube research on Jessie. Her style is about as raw as blues gets...

"You know I love you but you treat me so low-down..."

Simple, but I'll have to wait for the weekend to 'ear out' the song and learn the parts.
That's my Blues impairment for the week.

What if...

Ahhh... it's time for another 'what if' scenario where the top story is about the former president Donald Trump, who is facing the possibility of being indicted in the New York probe into the 'alleged' hush money payment to an adult film star who goes by the name of Stormy Daniels.

What if he gets indicted and has to turn himself in to authorities. He will be processed with ID and fingerprints (those are usually done electronically now) and would have to post bail.

What if he's strapped for cash (after paying all his lawyers who demanded their fees up-front' and resorts to payment via his campaign fund account.

Would that mean he could be liable for misuse of election funds? Wow, what a thought and that would lead into another probe... I'm sure.

I could only speculate the amount of bail... $50,000, maybe $100,000.
It's not like he's going to skip the country or anything crazy like that.
Oh, what if he did?

my Politically Motivated quiz...

The New York District Attorney is charging Trump's corporation for tax fraud of a period dating back 10 years, is this considered politically motivated?
My answer is ( N )

Trump had an affair with an adult film actress (porn star) prior to his run for the presidency and had his attorney Michael Cohen pay the woman 'hush money' as to not affect his run. Was that politically motivated?
My answer is ( Y )

The Trump corporation reimbursed Cohen and as a result Cohen went to prison. Was that politically motivated?
My answer is ( N )

The January 6th committee had testimony from Trump supporters who took part in the insurrection who stated they believe they were following Trump's orders and that storming the Capitol building would block the certification of Joe Biden. Was Trumps actions politically motivated?
My answer is ( Y )

Trump announced on his TRUTH social media platform that he is expected to be arrested on Tuesday and is calling for protests. Is his action politically motivated?
My answer is ( N ) but inciting a riot of that magnitude is in violation of Federal Law.

How am I doing so far?

Foggy sunrise...

Sunday morning was great! The weather was cool (mid 60's) with no rain in the forecast. On my way to the county park, I was able to shoot a photo of the morning sun just over the treetops lighting up the fog.

It had a shimmering effect as the humidity dissipated.

Catalytic Converter Theft...

I've seen a few news links about catalytic converters being stolen from cars. Tonight one article revealed data from insurance companies stated what was thousands per year are increasing in numbers. One of the most targeted vehicles is the Ford F-Series truck. The truck is high enough that someone can slide under with a wrench and unbolt the unit in a few minutes.

Personally, I had an engine fail on my 2014 Hyundai Veloster caused by a piston ring that sent 3 quarts out the exhaust. My mechanic found a used engine, one recovered from a rear end collision. It wasn't running correctly and the suspect was the catalytic converter had clogged due to the oil. We could have shorted out the sensor, re-piped the exhaust and reprogrammed the brain, but that had some restrictions. I didn't want to drive a car with a tampered exhaust system so I bought a re-manufactured catalytic converter and the car ran like it did before the engine blew up.
At that time, new catalytic converters for that model were around $1,500 and re-manufactured around $500. Either way, it was a big chunk of money.

I did find flaws in some the stories I've read.
Most cars have alarm systems that are set off when you bump the car.
So, how is it possible someone can jack up a Honda (for example) and unbolt a converter without setting off the alarm?

Some stolen converters are used to replace defective ones in other cars while other are sold for the precious metals they contain.

Okay, police have suggested engraving them with a unique traceable number.
In the real world, just like stolen guns... grind off the number.
I believe possession of a gun with a tampered serial is illegal, but I doubt there are laws to cover converters.

If it's so easy to unbolt a converter... SPOT WELD the joints so only someone using a grinder could break it loose.

Maybe more thought needs to go into a method to deter the business of stealing catalytic converters...

Enlarged Prostate...

I had a busy morning, making a sale, dropping off the check to the office, going through the factory to review some deliveries scheduled next week. All is good. On the way home I got gas and wanted to do a quick run through Walmart. Not a good idea as it was busy like they were giving things away!
I had to pee and knew I couldn't hold it until I got home. No choice, so I went to the restroom in the store. All the stalls were empty... looks like they were shopping and not peeing. Standing at the urinal, thinking of the obligations for the rest of the day, I hear someone talking... I'm doing my best to ignore the guy, but he repeated himself a few times. He was asking me if I had to get up during the night to pee. I pulled my zipper up, stepped back and turned. My answer was "No" and to his surprise he said he's got an enlarged prostrate and has to get up to pee at least three times during the night.
TMI, isn't it?

Sorry, I'm not accustomed to striking up conversations at the urinal and distanced myself by walking the opposite direction from him to wash my hands.
It's a good thing he 'got the message' as I was prepared to tell him the whole world has an enlarged prostate... But, he walked out of the restroom still complaining about his prostate.

The Howdy Doody plate...

In 1947, Howdy Doody was born. Actually created is the correct word, because Howdy Doody is a puppet (marionette) who appeared in a Western themed children's TV show that ran until 1960.

'47 was the year my brother was born and when he was old enough to watch the TV show, my grandmother bought him a ceramic/porcelain dinner plate with a painting of the Howdy Doody character. I researched to see they also had cups and bowls for the collection. That old plate got lots of use. The face had scratches and the edges became chipped Probably into it's 30th year some stress cracks began to show as it was used in the microwave oven to reheat food.

My brother moved away, my parents died and I inherited the plate. The plate came with us when we moved away from Miami and it was used upside-down over the small rear element on the stove. That gave a flat landing for pots to cool when removed from the front element. Unfortunately, one day the heat or weight made the plate crack into a few pieces.

Emotionally, it stung for a second and I remarked "That plate is older than me!"

I'm pretty resourceful and went to eBay to see if I could get a replacement. I'm in luck as Howdy Doody plates can be purchased for around $20. Hmmm...

I'm a pretty good procrastinator and said: Maybe, another time...
