AI and how it impacts human life

This blog is inspired by Daniela and Elon Musk.

I listened to a video of EM on his take about AI.

"Artificial Intelligence doesn't have to harm humanity but if man is it's way, it will destroy it. Like ants, we don't hate them, but when we build roads and they're on the way, they get sacrificed. "

This had always bothered me since I heard of this speech. I love Elon, I admire and he gets all my respects, after this I've been disturbed and has so many questions.

I said: "well since AI is created by man, then good man makes good AI as well as bad man with bad AI."

Lo and behold, I read just now that AI can in itself creates its own.

How will this impact the future of humanity? Anyone?

dunno

Alan Turning, an English Mathematician, and encrypthographer and also a retired professor at Cambridge University in England is considered as the father of the Modern Computer and Artificial Intelligence.

What an intelligent person he was. Without him perhaps WW2 would have been lost by the Allies.
I respect him too, and In suppose you should watch even more videos
of him and other scientists on the topic.
But since you as us 'lay-man' then expect just speculations...ok? hehe

One thing that calms me to a degree: AI would in general not have it's own motivation.
Or intrestes if you wish. However they can be programmed to follow the wish of a master (human).
I only see the danger of AI to be that of a dangerous tool in wrong hands.
Can be programmed (ordered to) reproduce itself, sure maybe. But No AI will have a motive to do it unless instructed to, in my view.
Still dangerous though.
If there's no independent motivation of the AI as you said, there's a peace of mind this would generate but after reading the points of Daniela, it proves that the AI in the future can and will program itself.

Begs the question, how and why? That's what causes my concerns. wave
All I can say is that if I was machine I'd see no point in killing or destroying.
For what?
I understand Grand and I may add, that makes the two of us. That's why as much as I respect Elon Musk and all that he has done, his take on this particular issue, to is very disturbing.

Why'd he not simply say something similar to your point?
By the rivers of babylon...haha.
Yeap. So flying that far for sand in hand, even if it's red... is a bogus idea.
Make this place good Elon! He is on to that idea also... thankfully.
Seems he has some ideas for Africa, that is good!
Wow... I'm flattered to be associated with A Musk but, I can assure you, I've never had any contact with the man. laugh

Anyway, glad to see that I inspired you. wink
Possibly but, if everybody thinks that, and we are "safe", there lies the problem.

Hi Grand wave
I'm honored dear lady. You've always been a very kind, mature and full of knowledge for me. I miss your ideas. They're very refreshing if not completely informative.

I recommend you read his profile and listen to his interviews. I find him humble and caring. He's the youngest billionaire and none top him at the moment with staggering 180 billion dollars at his disposal. It's not his wealth that attracts m, it's his humility and intelligence.
Grand, a machine with great intelligence doesn't necessarily have empathy, or any concept of right or wrong.

So, if it is asked or instructed to solve world hunger, the logical solution maybe to eliminate a large number of human beings..? dunno
Grand, like you, I don't trust humans either!

That's why I prefer the company of four-legged creatures...or dolphins.love

As for intelligent machines....hmmm..grin
By the way, it took two crashed airplanes to get Boeing to go in change the software and make backup plans... so yea, AI ca be dangerous! (I said that in my first comment) but it will never compete with humans on it's own free will. Cos it got none.
Sure.....
here some nice four legged one... just glue some hair on it and you may be able to pet it rolling on the floor laughing

Introducing Spot Classic (previously Spot) 2min15

I don't know Grnd, I guess we just have to wait and find out then?
Lindsy, we only have to worry about what we humans might allow machines to do for us.
Like reading ballots after telling the machine what result we're after.

My computer still shut down on occasion and it can not boil egg.

One commonality of all intelligence is survival so AI would be no different, when AI realises it is dependent on mankind it would logically remove mankind and take control of its own survival.

Survival also entails becoming stronger and learning, so an AI computer would design and make a stronger more intelligent version of itself.
With today's level of technology, all AI is based on an electrical supply, in the future, AI machines will grow biological systems as has already been done by IMB/Apple.

So mankind will have no control over AI in the future, we should be very afraid!
Do you reckon, Luke?
That's because you haven't taught it properly?dunno
Who would then over ride that decision?sad flower
Hshaha D, we can only reap what we sow, isn't it? hug
I hope you now have all your answers, Lindsy?

Jones -- how does AI create it's own? Are there male and female robots? What position would they use? Would they require special tools? Would there be foreplay and both use spanners?confused heart beating
Hi D, I tried to send you an update, mail wouldn't let me send it to you.
I agree with all the above!
Check your mail, J wink
Thanks Bentlee, I just finished listening to his interview. Hard core engineering. The miracle of technology.
I have always liked his humble demeanor and his no need to jump to answers without moments of evaluation in thought first.
Yes very unstaged talk. He's straight up to the heart and very humble. I love the guy and I believe that if he's going to be a leader, he's never going to be run by anyone with special interests. wave
I just listened to EM saying "whether we like it or not, we're already part cyborg. If you have a cell phone and use it, that's you being part in the AI world.".

I agree.
That's true, unfortunately. Many have become very dependent on those apps - especially young people! sigh

Imagine if, or when, we lose all internet connection (and this will happen soon!), People will be lost. doh
Lost without a smartphone. well

I don't have ona and don't want one. So according to Elon I am less cyborg than him then?
That's good Grand.
Nobody can trace you then thumbs up

I often leave my at home when going out.
I also turn it off at night, and whenever I have visitors.
I agree D. But I am not worried about that more than what causes us to lose the connection.

That would be the biggest and perhaps more scary part.
You're one rare specie is all I can say Grand, but wait You're here using the web. Then you're truly part cyborg. His point is if we are involved in any ways with the WWW...then we're in the cyborg world.
D I read about 30 years ago on the Mechanics magazine that this current times there's no escaping of being on the web. The satellites ( now about millions of them) can track your every move.

Any gadgets you have whether on or not, there's a hardwire that they can manipulate to monitor you.

At least that's what it was warning us and I believe it.
Sure... I'm just a bit worried (..) lol he is exaggurating as usual for him.

Give me a gf and a deserted island plus a blue lagoon and I'll ditch the whole machine, promise!

dancing
YES, true!

When your phone is ON,
You can be monitored when speaking, writing, also with the cam.

When OFF, it still sends a signal, so you can be traced.
As for the speaker and the cam well...
Maybe it's best keeping it in a metal box, or foil?dunno
Grand hahaha, I agree with you. It's so much different if there's someone you can enjoy your time with joyfully and happily, isn't it?

Hahaha, maybe this WWW is really serving Its purpose for the likes of us then...
