An Eye For An Eye?

Does a man deserve to live after he had purposely and intentionally killed another man? I hear this nonsense all the time about his constitutional right to live but what about the rights of the person he had killed?dunno

I believe that every person has the right to live and therefore has the right to defend his own life; or the life of another, providing that he does not use excessive force. professor

Killing somebody by negligence and/or recklessness should be heavily punished according to the circumstances. We cannot claim an accident if we were reckless or negligent.scold

I don’t believe that crimes of passion or things done on the spur of the moment are any different than any other crime. If you have intended to kill at the time, you should pay for that crime.

To me attempted murder is no different than murder. Doing a bad job is no mitigation. It is the intent that matters; not the result. doh

No, I don’t think a man deserves the right to live if he had willfully killed another; no matter what the reason. He had forfeited that right when he took it away from another.

So an eye for an eye, a life for a life is okay is it?
So it's okay to murder a murderer?
It's a bit barbaric isn't it?

Would it be okay then, if a murderer was sentenced to death, then put to death by lethal injection or electrocution? So what if the person who gives the injection or electrocutes the accused and let's just say a family member or friend of the accused believes in an eye for an eye, a life for a life? Is it okay then for them to kill the executioner?

Murder is still murder no matter what angle you look at. professor

I believe that as a society we have a responsibility to show mercy...or reason...I do not believe in capital punishment...but understand why people do...murder is wrong whether it be from a masked intruder (random)or family...or from the justice system...the time one spends locked up depends on the circumstance...as you know...if you are frustrated with the overcrowding of the prisons...it makes no sense to allow capital punishment to exist...rather fix the problem at hand...and to discover the root of this problem from the beginning than mask it by capital punishment and never solve the problem...
Hi Cat!

Thanks for bringing this challenging topic again! To kill a murderer is still also murder. I think in times we live nowadays other alternatives to killing humans can and should be found. comfort

@ loulou, after changing your mind several times I'm glad you found your point..! laugh wave

I don't like to answer 3 people in one but you all have the same view.

So what do we do with them? It is easy for you to talk; you live in a countries where there is very low murder rates. Here we have 58 murders per day. Our jails are over-full and we, the victims, must pay to keep them there. People with life sentences are sent home after 3 or 4 years. Not because they are pardoned but because there is no place for new convicts.

They just come out and they murder again. How many must they murder before it becomes serious.

We are sitting here with a guilty murderer vs an innocent next victim. Whose life is more important? I reckon that whoever sends a convicted murderer home in co-responsible for the next murder by that person.

I say again; it is easy to talk while you are sitting cozy. You are not getting murdered; we are.

Maybe you did not read my blog properly. Drawing irrelevant parallels is not going to impress me. Anyway, you have stated your view and it is noted. Next time try to do it in one comment.doh

If you don't agree with me you are welcome to say so. I don't know why you are telling me that we will not settle our difference on a dating site. I could have told you that after your first comment. You were the one who tried to make a discussion forum of it; not me.

blushing Apolgies for all the typhos. Hands bad with Arthritis.
Morning Cat! So many murders a day? doh
in this case I am really kept cosy here! laugh
But, jokes aside. In Vienna there was a place where many murders used to happen. Many efforts have been made to prevent this going on. One effort was to supply work groups for the youths living in poverty and under insecure family condotions. After ten years now there is hardly a murder happening there anymore.

I don't know what the problems are in SA. One fact I heard is that the crimes are mostly committed by the emigrants from other African countries. Anyhow this high murder rate shouldn't continue. The problems causing this have to be solved in its roots. sad flower
Cat, I meant immigrants..
Great blog Catfoot, as usual wave hug wine
If SA has 58 murders a day and perpetrators are released due the system not being able to cope, how will you ensure that those you execute are truly guilty and deserving?

Or do you settle for having a disregard for human life and not worrying if a proportion of the people you execute are innocent?
As long as nothing happens to either you, or you loved one's at the hands of the legal, or illegal murderers.

If you want to move towards safety and freedom, your priority is that your authority is safe. Surely apartheid should have taught you that.
I fear I have to go out now for an hour or two. I will respond to your comments as soon as I return.

Hi Gloss,
Pardon me but you live in paradise. It is nothing of what we have here.

But re the arthritis; eat lettuce. One or two leaves a day. I eat mine on a sandwich with tomato or cheese or ham, whatever. Just a few days and your arthritis will be gone until you stop eating lettuce again. Believe me, it works.

Hi Calleis
Yes, it is that much; if not more. Our crime stats are doctored by the government and Interpol says that it is much higher.

Yes, the illegals flooding the country is responsible for a lot of crime but our own population is to blame for the biggest part of our murder stats. These murders occur mostly in the poor townships and is mostly black on black.

I am still defending the right to protect yourself...that has not changed one bit!!...Criminals take the risk when they intrude on others' space...

Cat
I am not living in a place where the crime rate is high...you are right...
I have read up on the high murder rate of your country...I was shocked by the number!!...
What are your political leaders doing to help reduce the number of murders besides hiring more police?...It is sad to hear that many get out of prison early due to over crowding...
Hi Mimi
Thank you once more. I am glad you enjoyed reading it.

Hi Lou
Our government does nothing about it. In fact, when a crime unit does too well it is dismantled. Our police force is ineffective and filled with incompetent people after the experienced people were laid off or forced into early retirement.

Only a very small percentage of murder cases are solved.frustrated

The latest ploy to get the crime stats down is to move the police stations out of the townships. People have to walk miles to report a crime and don't bother.

A pessimistic but fairly accurate assumption.
