The Choice To Comment.
A few days ago I received a PM from a fellow blogger asking me why I never comment on his blog. How do you reply to such a question? Is it not is my right to decline commenting on certain blogs as I feel fit. But maybe I must explain how I see it?I have a few friends and I comment on their blogs as a courtesy most of the time, regardless of whether I find it interesting or not.
If I do not like a blog or if I do not agree with the blog, I move on to the next blog without even reading the comments. If I cannot add something positive or amusing to a blog, I won’t comment on it unless if it is somebody I know well enough to speak my mind.
A blog containing just a picture, a video, a poem or a question is also not very likely to attract my interest if there is no story to accompany it. The same holds true for blogs inviting discussions or blogs being ‘build’ by a few people.
I don’t comment on a blog if it is intended to discredit or to offend, be that aimed at a single person or a group of people.
I avoid blogs by people who have previously deleted my comments or who have attacked me in the past and the same goes for blogs where I was attacked by other commentors while the blogger did nothing to protect me. I will never make that mistake again to try and defend myself on another blog.
On my own blog it is different. I will retaliate in any way I see fit and I will protect myself and my visitors against malicious comments.
My blog is a reflection of my thoughts. If you disagree with me it is your right to do so. State your disagreement and there is no need for any further discussions. Your opinion is noted and it will not be deleted if it does not contain a personal attack. Likewise, if you like it or agree with my view, tell me about it as well. It can only encourage me to produce more of the same.
Hang tight, it is only Tuesday. Friday is still a long way off.

Yes, I think it is best to state your view very clearly. It is only your view and others may agree or disagree (as long as they don't get abusive).
If it is a comment per beer you should be able to make a good number of comments each day.
Ek is seker meer mense het jou gemis. Nie almal is so voor op die wa soos ek.
hey but do you know how hard is to drink and type after the third dozen
Have a gooder
It won't do if commenting prevents you from drinking beer. You may have to skip a comment here and there.
If I must choose between and then will always win.
One thing I like about the blogs, I like the mix of seriousness, comedy and the love!
Blogs are the most difficult things to write. You have to catch your audience immediately or you loose them. Then you have to retain their attention all the time or they leave in any way. If the blog is too long some won't read it either; no matter how well it is presented.
And just dare to write 2 or 3 lame blogs in a row and you even lose your regular readers.
I don't throw a tantrum if people don't reply to my blogs.
Same goes in the forums,If a topic doesn't catch my attention I don't post in it.
Jokes are even more difficult. Some of the jokes circulating here have been told many times. Very often I have seen the same joke resurfacing within days. Sometimes it is as if people don't read other blogs.
It is for that reason I limit my joke blogs to one per week at the most.
I have deleted my Facebook account a few months ago so I won't know what comes from there; maybe there are more like me who have not seen the FB stuff posted here so there may be some purpose to it.
About the comments, my most successful blog solicited only 49 comments, half of them were responses from my side but it is still being read after more than a year. That is what pleases me.
Just want to say that you are doing great - you are in fact one of my favourite bloggers, although I don´t always comment.
It depends if I find the topic interesting and if I have anything to say.
I agree that we need to be able to write about a variety of topics so that people can see our other facets too.
Keep on blogging... don´t worry and be happy!
I should spend some time in the forums. I have not been there for months. I visit the polls from time to time but some of the polls are... hmm... let's leave it at that.
"Too deep" for you my friend? I am trying to please the intellectuals here too, you know?
I'm not an abstract thinker. I prefer concrete things and rate brute force rates higher than elegance.
Now that is a statement of confidence. I just cannot recall when last I saw a blog by you.
Hope things are going well in cold South Africa today. Actually, it is hard for me to imagine any part of Africa cold. :) Most of what I know about Africa is its northern regions...where it is always hot.
Anyway, about your blog. I would never ask anyone why they never posted on my blog, let alone even expect anyone to respond on my blog.
When I respond to a blog, it is usually subject matter that has caught my attention. I think I have commented the most on your blogs. So, keep up the great blogs.
P.S. It took all my will to hold back from addressing you as Bob-Cat.
Have a wonderful day.
Capetown is supposed to have a Mediterranean climate but it is not always so. Some years it can get very cold. We even had snow on Table Mountain this year and that does not happen too often. The latitude of most of the inland suggest that it should be very hot, which it is in summer but winters get very cold and frozen water pipes are not uncommon. So much for global warming! The biggest part of the country sits on the great African plateau and it forces the inland into a completely different climate.
Every one has different reason to comment on others' blogs. If one does comment, then it may be for courtesy, interaction, simple talk, just for fun, etc.
It seems sometimes ppl take comment wrongly. There are many reasons: comments may read wrongly, blogger may not like the commenter, commenter may be a crazy/spammer, there might me a lot of misunderstanding, etc.
But we have to remember that any blog does not last long. Few hours later they just disappear and nobody is going to read and comment it anymore. If we do not take the blog very personal, then we may enjoy even the worse comment very happy. Sometimes worse comments too express the fact.
However, i agreed with the most of your points. again, it is always interesting to read you.
That is right. You must do what you feel comfortable with. I am not a runner, no matter what other people shout from their blogs.
You enjoy your evening as well.
Thanks.
I did not know that. Then i hope they might be very few who read the old blogs.
The Choice To Comment!
That is right, Bobbie.
A person has the right to comment, if they want to or not.
It's A Choice! And their computer/laptop or phone.
There is many reasoning for not commenting, on a blog.
Any who!.........
Heyyyy!
I don't know how many old blogs are read but I think it may be more than just a few.
Blogging and commenting is a privilege and not an obligation.
I have the same problem with your blogs. by the time I get to it if may be stagnant already. I just happen to be online now because I'm downloading some music.
I think it is wrong to ask a question about why you don't comment on someone's blog...freedom of choice to do or not...
Yes, the blogs a but silly at times but certainly much more fun. With the diversity of the people blogging, we are bound to find some blogs uninteresting but others will enjoy that very same blogs.
Yep, I rather keep quiet before I say the wrong thing. What you say is sometimes taken out of context.
