Still The Same Old Faces.
So here we are again. All the same old faces minus a few and plus a few new ones. It is always so good to be here. I just cannot stay away.So where have I been all the time? I suppose I could tell you that I was suspended but it won’t be fair to give CS the blame. I was just very busy. Firstly the food poisoning kept me down for longer than what I expected and then I went to Pretoria for a few days to visit my daughter.
And coming back I walked straight back into my old job for two weeks. The fella who replaced me took ill and while he was off sick I had to stand in for him. Teaching for two weeks only made me realize how much I loved my job. Maybe I retired too early. I really miss working with the students even though their closest resemblance to humans is the footprints they leave in the sand when they walk upright.
Sunday morning – and I was not even drunk - I dropped my external hard drive by accident and the thing decided to croak. It is still working but grinding like a mill. I bought a new drive yesterday and between the old drive and my laptop I managed to recover most my data. Only some movies were unreadable. I was very fortunate. I could have lost the lot and some of the info on there is irreplaceable. It is amazing how sensitive they are. It fell less than half a meter. I should think about getting a backup tape unit. They are much safer - /I think.
Otherwise all is fine and I have regained 3 of the 8 kg I lost while being sick.
Wishing you guys a great day.
And thank you for the PMs inquiring about my well being. I think I answered them all.

But hopefully not much longer just that 24 months more on the work force and it makes a whole high percentage of my pension.
Awwww!. . . .
Believe me, I'm just as pleased to be back but as I said, when you get busy the time flies and you don't realize how long you have been gone.
If I had the option of going back to work it will be nothing else but teaching. I cannot imagine myself doing anything else.
When I changed careers to teaching 20 years ago I dropped about 50% in pay. Luckily the move was made possible by a legacy from my grandfather otherwise I would still have been writing software.
Thank you. But I never intended to leave. I was just very busy.
Hm ok but just as a point of order; I never left. I was just too busy to visit CS. there is a difference.
I was being lazy; had too many things in my hands. Silly me!
Thank you but as I explained, I never left. I was just very busy. Sometimes things in te real world take preference.
You really meant to make your point. A double posting we get often but 4! How did you manage it?
good to your well and welcome back furryfoot
I´ve only just come on the internet now and thought I would check what´s going on in CS world.
After Miclee´s blog yesterday about the energies of the moon and the eclipse, I really felt it...
My internet went dead and then some really strange things happened...
I´ve been wondering what had happened to you???
Anyway, happy to see you back safe and sound my friend.
I'll try being abducted by aliens (or bar flies) next time. Talk about funny things happening; I have had to update Firefox three times today. I don't know what is going on with them.
Well, I wouldn't waste money on a tape drive for backups. Been there done that. Wasted some bucks on one of those thingies a few decades ago. Expensive tapes too. It always backed up just fine I thought. Then one day I needed one of the back ups. That is when I learned not a single one of the carefully saved tapes was readable to the machine that had created them. All of them were created with read errors in the header block.
What I use and find works well is Acronis True Image. I have multiple cloned HDs for this machine and all of them are usable. You may wish to check Acronis out. Acronis.com
Yes, teaching is for the love of it. People who don't love it does not last. The pay will see to it.
I have been using Acronis for the last 5 years and I am very happy with it. The problem here is the medium to keep your backup on. I though an external hard drive is the answer but it seems not. Maybe one should look at memory cards.
Good to see you active again on the blogs. :) It was not too long ago I was wondering where you went. I see now. Hopefully all is well in your life. With 81 lives left, I am sure we will be seeing you around for many years to come. :)
Hmm, good to be blogging again. Yep, I should last long enough. Both my grandfathers died deep in their nineties and my father who will be 88 later this month is fit for another 10 or 15 years. My family gets very old and I plan to follow suit.
But i reckon on top of being hardwork i'm a spoilt too,or at least so i have being told
but not to worry, a man afraid of hard work ain't much of a man,or much of a loss either.. unless of course their retired
Good luck in regaining your weight loss
Well, I bought the other hard drive yesterday but I will have to find a secondary backup medium. I cannot take the chance again.
A woman of your age blushing? Get off it now, will you?
Enjoy your evening
cheerio, i gotta go
I am glad everything is going ok with you. Missed your blogs and friendship.
Right now? Cold! Otherwise ok. We had a few days of hot weather with relatively warm nights but now it's gone cold again and it is raining from time to time. It is what we call breeding weather here. Almost bed time for me.
Yes, it's been a while since we last spoke but I have been getting your corny emails from time to time.
Nice to see you back and hopefully in better health!!...I am sure you will gain more weight in time...we have lost some of our regulars here and gained some new ones...a natural cycle I think!!...good to hear from you!!
Yes, thank you. The food poisoning is something of the past now; all that remains is to regain my previous weight.
It is a natural cycle. I have seen many come and go during my stay here and it is more noticeble when you have been absent for a few weeks.
A great day to you.
