pondering

I was just on my way back from a movie when I was looking out into the night sky. Parking my car, the stillness of the night revealed the lively chirping of the crickets.

lol

awkward transition here....:)

It is often said as we go through life, we will discover our purpose of life. Don't you often wonder if there has to be more to life than just waking up, doing your routine, going to sleep, only to wake up to do the same thing over and over and over and over and over....okay, you get the picture.

Have you discovered your purpose? Do you believe we have a purpose? I can imagine a lot of people will say that their children are their purpose. That could be. Is it really your purpose if you are doing it for "my" child/children? That just sounds a little selfish to me (what do I know). Maybe they might be a hint or a path to your purpose??? I really do not know.

I cannot say I have discovered my purpose yet. I live my life trying to leave people better off (even if just so slightly) than they were before they met me. I might give them a genuine compliment, give them a constructive criticism, help them with something, give my non-bias advice/opinion, or give them few extra bucks to help them through this difficult life. Is this my purpose? I do not know.

What do you all think? Do we have a purpose? Do we have no purpose? If you think there is a purpose each of us have in life and you think you discovered yours....do you care to share it here? If so....let's hear it. :)

Hi Xu,

Good to see you up at this hour. lol (of course it is late here).

Thank you.

I would like to hear if you think you discovered your purpose yet?

Also,

I see your mousey is acting up still. laugh
My purpose in life was always to be useful. You have all this life inside you and to not use it for something or just to repeat the same things over and over is not right. For some there is maybe a higher purpose but for me it is just doing and experiencing whatever I can with the abilities and talents I have.
I was doing some religious reading recently and that question of purpose was simply answered. We do not need a purpose we are here to serve God. So, take it for what it's worth, but it may put things into perspective for you, have a great day....cheers
Sands...that is one I could never figure out. How exactly do you serve God? Very confusing so decide not to make that my purpose in life.
EK, living the commandments would be one way...but over all, like I use to say to my son every morning when I drove him to school. Be nice and kind to everyone and they will be nice and kind to you.....as he went to middle school I had to add 'most of the time'.......it's just random acts of kindness that we need much more of...I truly believe we're in trouble as as society and we need to change our ways and thoughts about our fellow man......
Sands...Oooh...so I am serving God most of the time.
jury's still ouy on that one, I need to chat with your mom....grin
ek, I figured a long time ago that your a good person....I just finished the Book of Revelations with interpretation and it's pretty fascinating. My friend had asked me for years to read it and I'm glad I finally did....now what's your mom's number again??????grin
My friend Johnny, I thinking and thinking and thinking .., yes, I have many small purposes in my life, but finally, my biggest purpose still is JESUS.applause applause cheering cheering heart wings teddybear
Hello Ek,

I like that. At this moment, while I am by myself, that is pretty much what I am doing in life also. But, I try to look beyond myself also. I don't think life is suppose to be all about the self. But...who knows.

Thank you for your comment.

Hello Sands,

Thank you for your post. It does seem to simplify life. Perhaps I am just over-thinking or just outright thinking too much. :)

No problem Ek. I enjoyed reading the "chat" between you and Sands. It certainly helped to elaborate a little more on what Sands initial statement was.

Thanks you two.

thumbs up
Xu,

I love it. It is a nice feeling to be able lay your head down at night and know that you wronged nobody that day and possibly even helped somebody.

Thank you Xu.

Dear Johnny handshake

Yeah, interesting, but valid question... I think our purpose is to be and to become the best person we can be. So often our focus is on what we can do for others, but the question is also what we do for ourselves. Are we open to learn and to grow resulting in a better self in terms of our skills, experiences, characters strengths and our insights about life and living? I also believe we often expect to change the world, making a massive contribution forgetting the impact we make on our own doorstep. We expect sometimes instant gratification to feel valued...so I guess, we need to focus less on our purpose and more on life and living...break the routine ...wink

My own little true story...I just finished my B degree and started with my career, had to assist black students with career counselling as part of a company initiative, worked with a gentleman who had very little self confidence ...He made me so tired, was in my office every second day...It really felt as if my assistance and advice didn't make any impact... Our paths separated and 10 years past...We met again... I saw him but could not recall who he was...The gentleman approached me...saying..."mam I don't know if you still remember me, but my name is X, I only want to thank you today...today I am a successful Metallurgical engineer and all the things you taught me, were the things which carried me through these years in times I really wanted to give up..." It thus took 10 years to realise the positive contribution I had at the time... point I am making, our purpose is not an means to an end...It is an ongoing process...
Hello LFA,

Thank you very much for your insight on what you feel the purpose of life is. I think if somebody is looking to gain some sort of gratification from their "purpose", it might be mistaken for the stroking of one's ego. Don't get me wrong, it is a very fine line between the two.

I really like your story you shared. I often wonder if you give a complete stranger a sincere compliment (or something positive), how much it might stick with them down the path of their lives. In your case, you got the see the results of your help. To me, that just goes to show when you do good deeds the results could very well be life changing for others.

Thanks again for your post.

Angel,

whether your neighbors think you're good or not doesn't really matter...what matters is that you know yourself that you're being true to yourself and did your best to be a good person...then you can sleep peacefully at night..,angel angel
My respect of Johnny. Good blog. My purpose in life though one person in day to feed and dress also my day the happiest when it turns out. I do 23 years charity work, I help needy orphans and disabled people, and isn't dependent what nationality and religion. Some more years in the past I owned motel a shooting gallery park for big cars, the parking for a taxi, construction business, and all this sold when I finished money to help. Having sold everything at me there was an opportunity more to help. Many counted me the madman because couldn't understand that it is possible to distribute everything. I made it, and the sons taught to show mercy and sympathy for people around. Also it is happy it.hug
Hi the Angel, is glad you to see.

And this kindness isn't known with the evil.
The enemy you will receive, the evil having averted the friend,
And you will find the friend, having become tender with the enemybouquet
Hello CH,

I thought about the "my" child statement in my initial portion of my blog. If a parent does raise them in a positive way, he/she will then make positive impressions on to others.

For me, with my ex-gf's son, I found it to being the most fulfilling thing in my life to have had a hand in raising him. While doing so, it helped me to realize there is more to life than just myself and my own selfish wants/needs.

I agree with many who say that society seems to be deteriorating. Maybe it is not too late to turn it around for all? dunno

Anyway, thank you very much for your post.

Once a year! Is good enough for me....drinking
Pepps, I am guessing in my afterlife my purpose will be for paying for all the mistakes I made in this one. Hopefully though, by the time I get there I have reconciled all my mis-deeds here. If I manage to do that, I imagine my purpose would be to pay the tax collector (angel ). laugh

What is your purpose here Pepps?grin
Hi serendipity is glad you to see. World and wellbeing to you.
Hello Um,

I wish there were many more people in this world like you. Can you imagine what sort of world that would be like? I think it would be almost like some sort of euphoric state we would all live in. What a true act of selflessness you have done there. thumbs up

Thank you so much for sharing your story.

wave hug
Yes,

It is very very fulfilling...

I was a Catechist during my teenage years and early 20s, my experiences in teaching little children about God and the Bible and being a mentor to those younger than me were very fulfilling...I didn't know how much I've touched their lives till they themselves told me and reminded me of those happy days I spent with them and being a fun good big sister to them...I'm so glad we became a big part of each other's life too.

Yes, society is deteriorating but it's not too late to turn it around...all we need to do is start within ourselves...then within our family and home...collectively, we can create a much much better society..
Hello Ser,

Very well said. In essence to what you said and also something I firmly believe, one will never find true eternal happiness from external things...be it money, relationships with people, etc.. It has to be discovered within and with what you said, something greater than yourself.

There are many who have posted on this blog and share the same sentiment. It might be something for some to consider carefully.

Thank you very much for your post.

CH,

That is the nice thing about the internet. As average people, we have things today that we did not have all that long ago. The internet is still fairly young if you consider all of history. A lot of knowledge that was available to the few is now available to the masses. Hopefully in time it will be enough to wake everyone up to the realities to the world and then we can make corrections as a whole where they are needed.

Believe it or not, I am fairly surprised that we as people of this globe have been watching many similar (if not the same) tv programs for years, read the same childrens stories, and I am sure other things I cannot think of right now.

But....that is how ignorant I was of the rest of the world. I am sure there are plenty of others things that I do not know yet. That is one of the reasons I like this site. I love learning things. :)
Pepps,

I will make sure they allow me to bring my checkbook into the afterlife. laugh
