Not what it seems, or is it ?

"A 10-MONTH-old baby girl has died in Spain after her grandfather left her in the back of his car for eight hours"

Bit of a roller coaster this article, man leaves granddaughter, 10 months old, in the back of a car in Spain, in summer, hanging is too good for him professor but read on, he went for a coffee & forgot he'd left her there, so poor man has trouble with memory comfort not his fault professor But hold on, cars here heat up in less than a minute to maybe 50c+, who would leave a dog, let alone a child in a car under those conditions very mad I can't think of a single place in Spain where kids are not welcomed with open arms, was it he couldn't be bothered to take her mumbling

serene, that's pretty sad, I never had children but I hope I'd have made a better job of it if I had doh
Chesney, well just what I'd expect from you, totally ignore the fact that under 25's cause 85% of all serious injury accidents in the UK, but as usual you're trying to blame the older generation, I suppose on the plus side you did manage a comment without using the phrase "Baby Boomer" doh I'm sure there's a job waiting for you at the EU, they're also fond of making rules biased to there way of thinking regardless of fact.

"Google - drivers aged 17-19 only make up 1.5% of UK license holders; they are involved in 9% of fatal crashes where they are the driver – and altogether, drivers under the age of 25 cause 85% of all 'serious injury' accidents therefore, disproportionally effecting insurance claims"
Chesney, Map tells us earlier in the blog the guy in OP is 56, so quite what your comment has to do with this blog is beyond me.
BTW, not excusing him. NEVER. But.
Biff, well maybe I am, I'll reserve judgment till we know what exactly he did during those 8 hours as I feel that may be relevant to what happened dunno
UnFayzed, yes the pool is another case where you see parents not watching over there young, some seem to consider keeping a constant watch means they don't get a holiday, well tough, if you have children you also have a duty to take care of them, especially in places of danger like cars & pools imo.
Zman. Intrusive, confiscatory, nanny state governments, typically administered by liberals, have their fingers involved in licensing almost everything, and the list keeps growing. But almost anyone is allowed to be a parent or grand parents, with little interference on the front end. And the growth in world population could use a sereious break. Strict licensure for prospective parents, based on ability to be good parents, as defined by me.
I'll reserve judgment till we know what exactly he did during those 8 hours as I feel that may be relevant to what happened

Might be a wise decision.
The mind is often said to forget important facts ( like where I live, what time I should be home etc ) if there is alcohol and/or a beautiful female in the picture.dunno
V, it's never too soon to start your presidential campaign professor get your policies out there & you could be the next president, stranger things have happened laugh
Luke, that's where my thinking lies thumbs up
On the 19:00 news.
A toddler was washed away down a river and never found. An eyewitness questioned by the TV crew blames it on evil spiritsrolling on the floor laughing
Hope this guys defence is a little betterlaugh
he obviously wasn't used to having the baby & so completely forgot she was in the car. Very sad indeed & yes, he has to live with it crying crying
It will be interesting to see the outcome of this … it's tragic either way. Two lives will be ruined... a baby dead and a man left to live with the consequences of his actions.

It's sad. bouquet
Abagail, I will keep an eye on the local press & update if there's any more info.

You think this might be the solution?
Mimi thumbs up a great idea, my only concern would be the cost, already here parents have to have various sized car seats for there children as they grow & they don't come cheap, neither do the fines if you use the wrong one, the rules are a minefield, I just worry that before long we won't be able to leave the house for fear of breaking some law or other doh
8 hours of forgetting is definitely an indication that the man isn't normal Z.
Mimi, that video is absolutely brilliant. My car warns me if I try to lock it from outside with the keys still inside (it's a touch lock) - and it squeaks, then squawks, if there is weight on the passenger seat, but the seatbelt isn't fastened - so I don't think it would even be that complex.

From the links and comments dogs and children are left in the car so often that as the young inventor's dad said, it's amazing there isn't already a sensor saying oi, beep beep, you're locking the door and there's still someone inside, even if nothing more sophisticated. Linking in a siren which starts after 10 minutes and gets louder and louder would be ace too.

applause
Zman, Malaysia and a lot of other South-East Asia countries do not have strict rules when it comes to child seat. It is not compulsory to place your child in a car-seat over here therefore it is very often you see toddlers and kids jumping up and down in the car while the vehicle is moving! doh

You know what Zman? Maybe it’s not such a bad idea, huh? Without the car-seat, I mean. That way, the child can even come up to the passenger seat beside you and that way you'd never forget that you have a child with you inside the car!

I know I know I sound rather stoopid now...uh oh
Biff, that video clip was a year ago...I wonder if they have made it available to the mass market or the consumers yet.

Saw this on my FB feed today...yet another case....

That particular invention was really elaborate, I doubt it is in production yet. But even a sensor that picks up on movement vs car temperature and started a siren would save countless children and dogs left by morons, because passersby would be alerted.

Presuming a sleeping child woke long enough to wave an arm of course crying
LJ, as I mentioned earlier there is a percentage of residents here for whom forgetting about the needs of others for 8 hours is the norm, you just have to see the dozens of cars taking up two spaces at the supermarket to see how much thought they give others professor
Mimi, myself & every other child at my school survived not having a child car seat, even back in the day when cars were nowhere near as safe as now, but now you can't carry a dog or even parcel that isn't chained to the car doh
Hi Z Man, here you can get a ticket for not having your seat belt on or a child not in a car seat. I have never heard of anyone ever getting a ticket with kids or even adults riding in the back of a pickup truck confused

Don't make sense to me.
Hi Z,
just curious as to if you read anything locally about what the Grandpa was up to during the eight hours yet?cheers
Wen, that would be a definite ticket here, I think they'll ban talking next laugh
Luke, I've been checking but nought so far, I've even checked there local paper.
Now there is a uniformed abnormality of that place then Z. Maybe, raising children there should highly monitored for the sake of the children.
It is very rude for someone to keep two parking spaces for one vehicle Z and if that happens, people will do something not pleasant on the vehicle. That is what I have observed for living here over 40 years.
Cervatilla, and don't forget the big one, you can be fined or imprisoned for criticising the government or police, like the woman fined e1600 for posting a pic of an illegally parked police car on Facebook uh oh mumbling < me saying how wonderful the police are innocent
Z, was that the woman who was fined E800 ?

Is that fake news or was she fined twice? tongue
Molly, you're quite correct mumbling the fine was e800 & the 1600 figure comes from the number fined in the first year of that law, I'm a pensioner, you should be giving me your seat on a the bus rather than correcting my mistakes tongue laugh
Z, if ever we are on a bus together, I promise to give you my seat grin

But on a serious note, I can't understand why there is not uproar by the Spanish over this new law. They are (were) great for having a Huelga general spam spam at the drop of a hat, and bringing the entire country to a standstill. This is an important enough issue to have not just one, but a series of them.
Molly, there is so much to say on that but what can you say with that law in place, I had hoped the new regime in power would make a difference, but they haven't moping lots of talk in the papers about expats moving out & blaming Brexit, I personally don't think it has much to do with Brexit, people from across Europe moved here for two main reasons, the weather & the relaxed lifestyle, the lifestyle has gone, there's nothing relaxed about it now, an endless sea of regulation with ridiculous fines for minor infringements moping
One of our more stupid politicians modernised an archaic blasphemy law several years ago, under the radar.
People protested against it, and now it is due to be brought to the people in the next referendum.
Laws can be changed, the law is fluid.
Molly, there's not a lot I can do personally, as an immigrant I don't see it as my place to interfere with the Spanish way of life, should they decide to act I would certainly support them for what that's worth, as an outsider I can see what they're doing to there country & can guess where it will end up but any change of direction must come from them imo.
Z, if you can be fined under the law, then it does affect you.
Plus, you could do background agitation. It is amazing the amount of people who are oblivious to laws or other policies which may affect them. It is only when they are made aware that they do something about it.
No argument here, governments may not want total control of individual lives but they are certainly trying to build in enough laws to control anything that might crop up, no matter how far-fetched mumbling

Threatened with stupendous fines is lovely media-fodder and spreads the word, don't DO THIS.

Forced to pay large fines or be jailed hasn't as best I know happened yet to anyone doing something previously considered unexceptional, and will be grounds for general horrified revolt.

No?

If there are cases you're the man to find the links rolling on the floor laughing
We should remember the mistakes people get away with. Loads of kids used to go missing back in the days when it was more usual to leave your kids unattended, but most parents got away with it.
I don't like too many laws either.
The only thing about it is, the more laws they have, the less time they have to enforce themlaugh
