Smoking and its benefits

I am inspired to write this blog because a friend of mine told me that there are indeed known benefits for being a smoker.

He said and I quote: It calms him down and that is a very good benefit.

I respect that.

Note: I lost 3 good friends from this habit and it was very sad, they were all under the age of 55.

Question: Are all smokers enjoy this benefit? Are there other benefits that you know of?

Are there hardcore smokers that you know of who would want to quit but can't?

Thanks all for reading and or comments if any.

cheers

Sea. nice to see you here wave
B I know you have a very unique sense of humor and I am sure, there is no malice intended on the question, or is there?
No malice here Lyndsylips
One downside of this habit is also the cost. It is getting so very expensive and boy even more so in some places. Australia used to charge $20 dollars a pack in 2014, I don't know now and I think it is a bit cheaper in the US.
Grouch, wow that is a side that I haven't thought of before.wave
Fay, that should discourage people to smoke right? Well per my friends stories, boatloads of them cigarettes are actually smuggled from China and how it works is that there are about 7 ships per year going there and there is about one of them ship will be confiscated, and still, the profit of the smugglers are staggeringly high. Like billions of dollars in value. I am not even sure if this is true but some of my friends said this when I was there.
In many cases the cause of a persons death cannot be determined, so, obviously any organ degeneration attributed to smoking, drinking, drugs or work related symptoms is given to satisfy any enquiry.

You say you lost 3 good friends from this habit and they were all under 55, whether true or not, you should be aware that like women, mens bodies go through a biological change between the age of 49 and 53, regardless of any "bad" habits, the body cannot adjust and the person dies.

I have been a smoker from the age of 18. I like smoking, I dont really want to quit, however, since May of this year I have been trying to give up (my choice for no specific reason).

In general, I do not feel any benefit, although have noticed I dont cough as much.
LJ, I think what Sola is getting at is not questioning that your friends died but why, I've found myself that if you visit a doctor & am a smoker any aliment I have is put down to that, example - I had a problem with circulation in one leg, oh that's smoking said all the doctors, ok but my father had the same problem, he smoked, his sister & mother had the same problem & neither smoked, all same leg same problem, none of the doctors I saw even asked if there was any family history of the problem, once they knew I smoked that was it, and this is where the figures for smoking related illnesses come from, I'm convinced if I fell & broke a leg the doctors would put it down to smoking doh
Thank you Z.

They all had their lungs destroyed.

That's not right for any doctor to associate all illnesses to smoking. Lol, there are many sick people and also die young without smoking.
LJ, anti smoking has become like a religion similar to global warming, nobody wants to hear any other facts, if you smoke anything you get is down to that, they have known, but kept quiet about till recently, how many die from air pollution, which also causes lung cancer, ask any non smoker whether they'd sooner take a puff from a cigarette or the exhaust from a car/bus, I suspect most will chant about the effects of smoking but I know which one I'd choose, people who live in cities breath in far more toxic fumes that you'd get from a cigarette, & do that daily, so when will doctors routinely ask where you live as well as whether you smoke before making a decision on cause of death.
The only benefits from smoking have came from the move against smoking. You meet a lot more people now because they make you smoke outside, and going outside is good for you especially on a night out with your ear drums ready to burst.
There are no benefits in smoking...
It just occurred to me it probably depends on what your smoking. If you smoke Corporate cigarettes, you are probably smoking poison, end of story. However if you grew your own tobacco and made your own cigarettes it might not be bad for you. Who knows.

I don't have any faith in big corporations.
I know how much worse are the hazards living in cities like LA Z.

And yes health insurance is way costlier there than from the bay area.
Fair enough Obs.
Kremawave

I respect your opinion. I do recognize some benefits per other's arguments.

Calming effect to me, is on the top.
6 'benefits' of smoking cigarettes

Smoking may lower risk of knee replacement. ...
Smoking may lower risk of Parkinson's disease. ...
Smoking may lower risk of obesity. ...
Smoking may lower risk of death after some heart attacks. ...
Smoking may alleviate ulcerative colitis. ...
Smoking may reduce stress... but it's unclear.

From Google.
Neither do I Fay.

They're profit driven and that's all that matters to them.
Possibly lowering risk of Parkinsons disease plus a very good one.
Sweet wave

I agree completely with your opinion and reaction.

Lol Sweet on one of my thread my number one reason for disliking a possible partner is smoking.

Now being on this position doesn't mean I don't respect smokers.

That's their choice and I don't impose my personal preference. I do avoid them.
Yes Lindsy you are correct that's why I told my friend she can carry on with her smoking group I will go clubbing with her some other time.
I am an ex smoker Lindsy,
the only benefit connected to the smoking was quitting it...
I can not believe I ever wanted to smoke... wave
Krema, I am proud of you. How long did you smoke if I may ask?

No wonder you stand on that ground of No benefit position. I am so happy for you.hug
I stopped smoking 9 years ago, at once as well...
I've always hated my clothes and hair to smell of cigarettes, and never allowed smoking inside my home...
The benefits were obvious, fitter and healthier...
Wow, that is very good Krema. I am so happy indeed, you are one of the few lucky ones that I know who want to quit and has succeed in it. A battle most find it difficult to win.
I have helped people quitting smoking, by working with the root of the problem.

Once you´ve eliminated the root, the "problem" doesn´t come back.
Lucky are those you have helped Daniela, may you continue to be blessed.hug
Absolutely Daniela, it serves the purpose very well. I hope the posters and readers would try it at least and if it works, then we have done something useful.hug
I truely cant see to any benifits to smoking.
flyme, rolling on the floor laughing anything you say.
Blue, Krema and you are on the same position. My question to you, did you ever smoke? You don't need to answer it if you don't like. I am trying to understand why so many people smoke in spite of its hazard to our health, but then I just found out, some truly believe the benefits to them far outweigh the disadvantage that we know of. I respect that. But rest assured if a place I go into is smoked up? I will run away as fast as I can.
I do believe smoking habit can be really stopped but the big corporations are not willing to do it.
Hi Lindsy wave

A friend of my daughter smokes, not a chain smoker but she is trying so hard to quit because she has two young kids whom she protects very hard from the hazard, said yesterday that she will do all the things that Daniela has posted and I hope and pray she has the strength because she has tried it twice she said.cheers
*DEPENDENCY
She was talking about that and when we discussed what possibly could be missing in her life. She's pretty sure she loves life and herself albeit without a man.

I hope she'll figure it out Daniela.

She is impressed with all of our responses.

She relates much to Zman on tg her calming effect.
Sorry McDonald's that should be Big Mac.
Good for you Isabel. wave

Good morning.
I hear you Aa. If only people can be that strong perhaps, we can make this corporate world go bankrupt.
