Smoking and its benefits

I am inspired to write this blog because a friend of mine told me that there are indeed known benefits for being a smoker.

He said and I quote: It calms him down and that is a very good benefit.

I respect that.

Note: I lost 3 good friends from this habit and it was very sad, they were all under the age of 55.

Question: Are all smokers enjoy this benefit? Are there other benefits that you know of?

Are there hardcore smokers that you know of who would want to quit but can't?

Thanks all for reading and or comments if any.

cheers

well, I guess if we were meant to smoke the good lord would have made us with chimneys. tried smoking when I was a kid, did nothing for me, glad I did not get hooked on it.
I don't smoke String. I was married to one who quit for 10 years. Went back to smoking for the rest of the 18 years and I wasn't happy. He tried to quit for the second time, tried everything and nothing worked.

Thank God he instructed our children never to smoke and none of them do. He didn't smoke inside the house or in our cars.
I avoid people who smoke. Thank God California is very strict on this rule. Even if you are in an open space like waiting for the bus, if there are three people that gets affected by your smoking, they literally have the right to accost you and stop smoking.
I don't mind people who smoke as long it is not blowing in my face. all my friends don't smoke so I am lucky that way.
wave Ms Jones
where tar is not good Nicotine is proving beneficial for some health conditions ....
for example, Ulcer active colitis and Alzheimer, could be more but they are two I know of.
String, I can say none of my friends either and or relatives. I simply don't get close to them smokers.
Las Vegas Casinos used to be all smokers and have no choice but now there are options where you can play with the benefit of non smoking.
Nice to know Ms. Witch. At least there is a health benefit that can be derived from it and it is good to know.wave
I understand Wen. I know so many people who are in the same predicament.

Try to slow down though, can you at least do that?
LJ, I am not really a heavy smoker but I know to smoke at all is not good.
I did notice something with me, when I retired I started smoking more. I guess got to much time on my hands now.
Wen that is not good. Can you form a hobby or join those Rummie clubs? Or keep on blogging and maybe it will reduce your intake?
Jim you mean if they were not smoking there is no need for being calmed down?
Kiss me Lindsy!smoking smoking smoking
doh right you are Biff...
knew it was one of the other hole
LJ - I am saying that they would feel the need to calm down much less urgently.

What Biff left out, is that smokers have a MUCH higher rate of heart attacks.
Indeed, even non-smokers in towns that have no smoking laws have a reduced rate
of heart attacks. This is presumably because of the lower incidence of second hand smoke.
When those laws have been repealed the heart attack rate for smokers and non-smokers goes back up
in those jurisdictions. It appears that smoking causes more clogging of the arteries.
"Smokers suffer fewer colds in winter. In fact many seem almost immune to the common cold".

Yes Biff.... True! I identified what it is in tobacco smoke that kills common cold viruses and got our Communicable Diseases Centre to test it. It killed 50% of the cold viruses in a two hour incubation. Not effective on Flu viruses though. This harmless property in tobacco smoke is also naturally made by our bodies as part of our immune response.
Biff boy those are good enough reason, then I guess it is worth the habit then. I love the less likely to have knee injury for having less exercise. I have been doing exercise for the last 45 years and never had one injury, though. lollaugh
At work, one doctor told me, "smoking is life!" and he smiled with his teeth so drenched in tartar. Like erm, please go see a dentist. Talk about a total turn off!
So no! Smoking has no benefit at all. uh oh
I am reading the label on our cigarette packs and it is very clear about the warning that it is hazardous to general health.
LJ, if I were to give up I may end up posting endless blogs about how Trump will be arrested tomorrow, or even end up becoming as miserable as Crest doh laugh
My father smoked all of his life except for the last 5 yrs. He couldn't because he had developed emphysema and could barely breathe!

The minuses far outweigh the pluses!

I quit smoking 44 yrs ago because of my children. I didn't want them to ever smoke! None of them do and neither do my grandchildren!

If anyone here wants to quit smoking, contact me and I will tell you what program I used to quit!
Ms. Witch I am wondering about the rest of the comments of Elle, but as usual, she is very good at injecting humor on her comments. Just the same they are valid as her own opinion. I won't disagree in anyways.
I decided to quit smoking due to the appetite the smokes were giving me as well as uncontrollable bouts of laughter after smoking... The Judge wasn't too impressed when I laughed at his bald head as well... moping
I do want to make a point. My father in law smoked two packs a day for the rest of his life and guess what, he lived up to 95 and very strong and had no illness. He was Irish. Now that is probably one of the exception to the general rule.
Alan, there are established benefit and I will not dispute them. I just make it my personal choice to prefer non smoking. Having said that, I will never be with anyone as a partner or lover who smokes. Nor will I approve of any of my children and or grand children to be smoking. Like I said, I am thankful none of them smoke.

Now I notice since California has legalized Marijuana, I know some people that used to smoke only cigarettes now prefer to smoke weed. Is it better? I am not sure. I do know you can drive while smoking cigarette but it is against the law to be under the influence of this drug while operating a machine or driving.

Blue you may personally choose to say that there is no benefit to smoking but with due respect, there are actually known benefits as provided by some posters and there goes my respect to their reasons, medically correct or not.
Z, please do keep on enjoying the benefit of calming you down as I love you to be here posting very sensible if not outright logical opinions on your blogs or your comments on other's blogs, including mine.

I will never stop you from enjoying those benefit {s} and believe me, you are one I most respect and admire as a blogger and a poster.

I don't mean to say that I have to have the right to stop you, I meant as a friend, I would never change you in any way shape or form. Carry on and be as you are. My respects. hug
Thanks Jim and I would consider you very lucky.

My ex of 28 years (married for 28 years, together fr 30 years) quit for ten years and then went back and can never quit again, even after trying so hard so many times.
I meant to say, there aren't worse or better ones.
Thanks for the post String.

Elle, I can't see any reason why the need to stop provided it is alright with the smokers who feel good smoking.

If however, on situation like my friends who regretted every minute of their lives once they were having a had time breathing at such a young age, I do urge for them to seek help and change if that is at all possible. I know some who has done it and enjoy every minute of their life for no longer have the need to smoke. There is one good friend of mine who gained so much weight but she is not regretting having quit the habit. She is considering having a lipo section or something like that to reduce her weight.
Unfayzed lol I hope this will not be enough a reason for you to have a relapse. If it is, please stay away and don't let yourself hyped up to get the habit back. Like you said, nicotine smell or stopping what you are doing to smoke is good enough reason not to lite one.wave
Oh I promise I won't have a relapse with nicotene. You can drink to that!
I suppose the one thing is it will get you to god quicker if you smoke... benefits I don't believe it has any maybe if unless it has cannabis in then yeah it has some benifits
Fay I will drink to that then. I am happy for your being able to quit. I know how difficult it is because I have so many friends who are trying to quit but can't. The one that was able to quit? She still has her fingers pointed out like she is holding one but of course, she is happy, it is just that.
I remember my father catching me and my sister smoking, he was so angry he dragged us both out of bed
John I am not in a hurry to go to my Lord but anything that benefits others is fine by me.wave
