Anyone want to go to Japan?

I have this awesome, but old, Japanese guide book about living Japanese style and I so want to go, not a package tour, a real poke-around. Who wants to come along, even for just a few minutes, in imagination?

It all sounds so incredibly exotic. Chapter headings include

*exchanging greetings
*using the bath and toilet (Japanese ones ARE different!)
*using the public bath
*typhoons and earthquakes
*travelling on the cheap (I'll quote from that one in comments)
rolling on the floor laughing
*visiting a hot spring

I posted a video, then deleted it, it was all street markets and Western-style entertainment, thanks but no thanks, got that here.

Anyone been? Even better, lived there?

I noticed one change, before, I learned them by going there, now I am learning them from guests coming to me. Are my travelling days over? A year ago today the pets got their rabies shots ready to make the trip to Spain with me (I don't keep track of these things, but FB does). One month short of being in Spain a year. I may have melted into a puddle before then, it ain't 'alf 'ot.

Trinidad

After spending 3 weeks in Tobago yesterday we left for Trinidad. We started sailing at 7 am. It was a clouded and drizzly day but started to clear up in the afternoon.
I didnt really want to visit Trinidad because of security reason but I must say that last night the entrance was impressive. Sorry for the bad quality in the photos

Sunset as we approched the bay.

Texas, casino free state

Wow all the money siphoned out of this great state.

No wonder they built the biggest casino in the US at the border between Oklahoma and Texas. Winstar, an hour drive from Dallas. Mostly players are yes, Texans. High rollers they are many.

I drove many a times in Houston and San Antonio but not in Dallas and golly, the roads are built for the future.

Anyways while I'm enjoying my stay I just noticed how everything is "big" here.

Sandy or Snowy?...

Venezuela is definitely a land of contrasts... A land blessed in every way...

"Médanos de Coro" in the state of Falcón... Our own mini "Sahara"... heart beating

Catatumbo Lightning

"The Catatumbo Lightning in Venezuela has captured me from the first moment I set foot in Ologa, the fishing village in the heart of Lake Maracaibo. What locals call the "Relampago de Catatumbo" is also known as the everlasting storm, raging on in up to 300 nights every year with intensities reaching multiple flashes every second at a time.
Just 15 kilometers NW of the camp lies the one point on earth with the most lightning strikes, here up to 250/km2 are registered every year.

The Catatumbo Lighting is not just a Guinness World Record holder but also has been immortalized in the flag of Zulia, where people proudly call it the "Maracaibo Lighthouse" after saving Maracaibo on multiple occasions from nighttime ambushes of foreign naval fleets. But Catatumbo is much more than just lightning, it's an overall crazy place filled with amazing people, incredible wildlife, beautiful flora and unbelievable light scenes on an almost daily base. All these things coming together have made me fall in love with this place and after visiting 3 times I feel a deep connection to the Maracaibo Lake - It has become my second home. A ferocious and unforgiving home but the best home I could possibly imagine. This film shows the highlights of those three trips, all in a very cinematic fashion. Some of the lightning videos are indeed the real time, but many others are slightly shortened in order to look the most impressive, but everything you see in here did actually happen and wasn't altered using any After Effects etc."

This is Venezuela... Zulia... Maracaibo... My country... My home... My love... heart beating
It's impossible not to fall in love with this blessed land... How can I pretend not to be as proud as I am, of being a daughter of the most breathtaking and incredible place on earth, so full of natural miracles and wonders it's even hard to count them all... Enjoy!... bouquet

In to the wild

I have been in the wild for some days.

Ocean on one side but acres and acres of thick forestry all around.

The safari vehicle is not the coolest ride. ( I mean not comfortable) Bumpy rides in dusty roads. Body feels like beaten up.

I think wild has lived in peace for quite some time.

I know we have to be careful about the virus. But the wheels of economy have to roll. Livelihoods have to be powered up.

I have taken 3 rides in to wild. Today I am taking a rest.

There are plenty of deer, buffaloes, peacocks, and wild boars. But I am looking for leopards. Beautiful but shy animals.

Stay safe. Live life.

Traveling in Southern Africa

I see a lot of people did some extensive traveling around the globe. Well, I also did a bit of traveling in my day. I visited a number of neighboring states and I had an extended visit to Angola, and few shorter visits to Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, & Botswana, all by courtesy of the South African Defense Force.laugh

The hotels were generally bad and the food was worse, so we mostly slept in the open veld eating canned food and drinking water that we carried with us. I don’t think they had any airports at the time because we had to jump out the flossies (transport planes) from 600 feet. What I enjoyed most of these visits was the complete lack of passport control. They never asked us for passports. There were no delays in entering or leaving the country.applause

I even met a celebrity like Dr Jonas Savimbi on two occasions. He was such a charismatic man! I wonder why they assassinated him.confused

I did not find the people very friendly; they were shooting at us on sight without asking any questions. It is no wonder we went there armed to the teeth. Maybe they did not want to encourage tourism at the time.grin

No chance for a game of golf, but we did play some Hopscotch on the minefields.uh oh

Regrettably, I never got to see Luanda. We were 38 km from the Angolan capital when we decided to go home. It is strange that we never got to see the capitals of any of the countries that we visited. The only exception was Windhoek in Namibia, which we saw quite often. At least they had a better sense of humor, they did not shoot at us.mumbling

Actually, I would like to visit those countries again. I wonder if tourists are more welcome now.grin
cats meow cats meow

May you enjoy this day.wave

PS. I’ll be missing for a few days. I’m leaving tonight.
