travels and places to go

I'm deviating from my usual entries of interest. This blog is inspired by the show I was watching last night. About the best yet economical places in the world to experience a remarkable and memorable vacation spot without breaking the bank.

I would want everyone to participate where they've been and why they recommend it? Doesn't have to be outside of their own country yet it's very beautiful and worth seeing?

Anyone? Thanks all for your reads and comments and contributions fellow citizens of CS.

Note: A friend who's never been out of Australia always go to the same place during his vacations. He's well off so it's not a matter of money. Well he hates flying but his response whenever I ask him is this: "Why would I go anywhere, the water in my place (Port Stephens), is the same. The weather would be the same, so why bother going so far away when here's a perfect place."

I've traveled in many places but not in South America, or Africa yet and my bucket lists includes Machu Pichu, and the Amazon.

Please share us your most desired place you've been into or even still planning to go to.

Thanks again.

My recent Aussie trip

It's nice to be back in Malaysia after spending 2 weeks in Melbourne. Kinda miss my newborn nephew already......the main reason why I made the trip in the first place. He has a good mixture of Aussie and Chinese blood in him grin Methinks ( and everybody does too! ) he looks more like his Aussie dad than his Chinese mom, much to my sister's chagrin! laugh

Spent the weekend at my younger sister's in-laws' farm at Warragul, just over an hour's drive from Melbourne.

My first Aussie barbie! Yum! ( Biki, short for Biscuit, always hovering around me in hope I'd drop some of my food! )

When I go up to my room, Biki would follow suit but at times, he was just too lazy and decided to wait at the bottom of the stairs dancing dog

Went up to Mount Dandenong on one Saturday morning and had the yummiest scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream at Olinda Cafe. Thank goodness my nephew slept throughout the whole time we were there and I could savour 'em scones at a leisure pace....yum yum!

On the way to get the car, saw this mirror at one of the local bric-à-brac shops there. Absolutely gorgeous but it'd be absolutely crazy trying to bring that back to Malaysia! blues sigh

I'm baaaaaaaaaack

and what a palaver. I zooted off to Germany to buy cigs, as one does. Very cheap flights, very cheap hotel which it turned out was mainly for people who spoke Arabic but friendly and cheerful and it was fine. Until I packed this morning and checked my travel folder and my passport was MISSING.

Minus 8 hours to flight time. No problem.

Went down to reception and as it happened a policeman was there and he said to go to the central police station in town. So I did. They said to go to the police station at the airport. So I did. They said to go to the airport police so I did. Airport police said go away.

So I went to airport information who said get Ryanair to accept emergency travel docs then go back to the police and report your passport stolen then go back to the airport police for the emergency travel docs.

Ryanair don't man their desk until, hmm, 2 pm?

Minus 4 hours to flight time. No problem

They said go for it. I went to the police who said fine here is the letter that your passport is stolen, now you need 2 photographs for the emergency one. They were, by the way, LOVELY. Even drove me in a police car to drop me off at the photographers! So I get my photos and beetle back to the airport.

It is now 4 pm. Minus 2 hours to flight time. Mmm, bit of a problem?

Airport police said go away.

I said no I won't.

They said if you are from the UK you can ONLY get travel docs from your consulate, as the UK doesn't accept our emergency documents. (British citizens, please take NOTE)

There isn't a British consulate in the town I was in. However they did find me the phone number and I phoned the nearest one who yawned and said lady, 4.30 pm on Friday afternoon? Tell someone who cares, or come see us on Monday.

Minus 1 hour to flight time. PROBLEM.

Long story short (yeah, as if) I got past boarding control at 6 pm, through Security at 6.10 pm, past Passport control at 6.15 pm, and we boarded at 6.20 pm.

It was - lively.

So that's why I wasn't back to chat on the blogs after saying I would be rolling on the floor laughing

Sudden work trip

Off to Cape Town for 10 days tomorrow

Not a holiday, I’ll be stuck in the office most of the time. Normally I’d spend free time with the team on the spot but this time I’m going in to find out who had their hand in the cookie jar. help

I know Natal and Gauteng well but haven’t spent much time in the Cape. Suggestions? Anyone know how to get hold of Cat?

welcome to india..

100 US Dollar equals
6395.99 Indian Rupee......... India is a great country and known for diverse cultures, natures and communities. ... ... tips for India first-timers.... .. prepare yourself..... ..Think about what interests you, what you like doing, and tailor your trip accordingly.

many Indians are vegetarian, so there's a fabulous choice of vegetarian food. If you do eat meat, make sure it's well cooked. If in doubt, eat at a place where you can
pay a good amount of money....Avoid tap water,.... Keep your money in several different places. Act like you know what you’re doing and where you’re going at all times. Don’t speak unless absolutely necessary—you’ll give yourself away as a foreigner. Watch out for slimy men on trains and buses. Dress in traditional clothing whenever you travel. ... ..... I can only imagine how daunting the idea of travel in India can be for a first-time visitor.... ..Stay Healthy

Equip yourself with preventive medicines and basic first aid equipment before you leave home. Having these supplies will save you the trouble of going in search of a doctor or drugstore if you get sick...... ..Always carry a water bottle with you. Either boil your own water, or make sure to buy bottled water from a reliable distributor (Bisleri, Yes!, etc.). Indian drinking water contains many forms of bacteria that cannot be filtered out by using a bazaar.jpg (18950 bytes)simple filter. If you have to drink soda, avoid bottled sodas since they may be watered down with the same contaminated water that you are trying to avoid.... ..Be Safe

Always keep your passport and any other important papers close to you. Don’t leave important documents in your luggage. Also, keep two photographs and your passport information in a safe, separate place in case your passport is lost or stolen...... ...Contact the state ITDC (Indian Tourism Development Corporation) or the state tourism office (usually located in the capital city) for travel information. Travel brochures and advice can be acquired at these centers. The ITDC location information can be found in a local phone book.... ....Confirm your return flight at least two days in advance in order to avoid getting bumped. Indian airport computers aren’t always reliable; confirming your flight ahead of time could save you grief at the airport...... "The real key is to trust the people and trust yourself, and your expressed confidence will serve you well, especially in India. Ask for help from [police officers, train conductors, and tour guides] who clearly are there to be helpful, be friendly, and people will return your friendship because they will be delighted to get to know you as a traveler in their country.".... ....

Road Trip!

I'm pretty excited....today will be taking a road trip up 4-5 hours into New Hampshire. Now day trips may be mediocre to some, but to me, being the hermit that I am ..laugh ..it's a blast, seeing as I hardly go anywhere, other than a walk to a local store for necessities. My smokes are much cheaper there too, so I'm stocking up applause (my apologies to the nonsmokers lol) Who loves to travel?? I know I do yay yay

Speaking other languages.

All languages have their colloquialisms and pet sayings.

I lived in Finland for many years, and apart from Finnish being one of the most difficult languages to learn, the sayings can make a direct translation seem like so much gibberish.

It needs a good knowledge of the coloquialisms to make sense of the content of some of it.

I have found this with some other languages as well.

Has any one else had this sort of experience?

weather report

Scotland has officially outdone itself on this morning's weather. wow I stood at the back door having my morning cig and coffee and looking at (a) blue sky (b) some grey-brown cloud (c) a rainbow while being spattered with rain.

We do boast about having all four seasons every day but at the same time is pretty good.

Morning all cool what's your weather right now, this morning, as you read this blog?

The Blue Peter Is Flying.

But will she sail? When a ship is ready to sail, the ship’s master will hoist the Blue Peter. This is to indicate that the crew must hurry on board otherwise they will be left behind.uh oh

Sometimes it is such a jolly port, that enough crew may decide to stay behind and then the ship cannot sail. The ship must linger so a new crew can be assembled. However, if enough crew returned to sail, there may still be a mutiny as soon as they are at sea, forcing the ship back to port?frustrated

Will she complete the journey or turn around? This is a jolly port and few ships have sailed never to return. Sometimes the ship is renamed and repainted for a sneaky return and a surprise attack. What will it be? Will the ship sail?dunno
