May the $$$ be with you

Anthony Daniels has sold his C-3PO head for a staggering US$843,750 (NZ$1.36 million).

The 78-year-old actor, who has spent more than 40 years playing the uptight robot in Star Wars movies and TV show spin-offs, sold off various items of memorabilia from the sci-fi franchise via Propstore Auctions today and the fibreglass head proved to be the star of the sale, having lived up to its expected price tag of between US$500,000 (NZ$809,730) and US$1 million (NZ$1.6 million).

It was currently unclear who bought the head, which Daniels wore in 1983’s Return of the Jedi and consists of a faceplate, backplate, and neck-ring.

Looking to make the move and live in a new place for a while? If you pick sensibly, you might just get paid to do it.

Smaller cities and towns in the US are offering relocation packages to lure new people to come and live in them.

Also referred to as worker relocation incentive programmes, these financial schemes can be found across America and all share a common goal: attract people with geographically flexible jobs by offering them money and other perks, such as free gym memberships, co-working spaces and even a sit-down meal with the mayor, reports CNN.

The dyslexic bookkeeper...

Not everyone is cut out for the positions they hold in business. One business owner I worked for often used the term Peter Principal where some people rise to a position where they begin to show incompetence.

One woman I knew was the best draftsperson in the department and received a promotion that put her in a management position. The company did a disservice to her and themselves. Orders began to back up as she trained her replacement and she wasn't knowledgeable with the workings of the company, making a few bad decisions. Happy with the pay increase, uncomfortable with the demands of her new job, she felt she couldn't step down (as there was no longer a place for her) and decided to leave the company.
Lose/lose for her and the company who employed her.

Another boss was nice enough to use the phrase "We're all wired differently" describing how he tried to place people in the best positions they were suited for. We had one cabinet maker who owned his own custom shop. His business failed, not because he was a bad cabinet maker... he was very experienced and produced high-quality work. His weakness was an inability to manage the business end of his company. Working for someone else was the magic formula.

I think everyone has experienced a dyslexic moment now and then and accidentally transposed an address or some part of a phone number. Every week, I get mail in my box intended for a neighbor. In that case, it's laziness or fatigue. Sorting mail and being dyslexic would be a career disaster.

30+ years ago, I worked for a place before they went on computer where the bookkeeper constantly transposed figures. Mistakes were in her typing, hand written notes, especially phone messages, but the worst part was her accounting errors. It frustrated the owner for the time lost going back over ledgers correcting her mistakes. They photo copied all the checks and he had to go back to see there she transposed entries.
The position required multitasking that she wasn't good at, compounded by lots of interruptions of a small office where she would get flustered when things got really busy. It was more than dyslexia as she would often put callers on hold and totally forget them. They would call back angry!

I suppose there is hope for dyslexia.

Getting some surprising health answers.

It's no secret that I aren't the healthiest person in the world. I eat a lot of fatty foods, particularly burgers. I like to make big monsters, such as a triple bacon cheese burger, with a LOT of bacon, cheese and grease! I also eat other stuff as well, but the common denominator is fat. My family requested that I had my cholesterol tested, so I did.

I went to the doctor, at the end of last month but it was too late in the day to take a blood test. So I had to book my own appointment in a lab, to get it done and finally see how my health is.

I did get my blood pressure measured at my doctor, and it was normal. Nothing major to be worried about there, but I still had blood work to be done. Fast forward to the day before yesterday, where I had an appointment. A few minutes after my booked time, I was guided into a small room, with a chair. The technician asked me to sit down and get comfortable.

Usually, when you get blood drawn, the technician places a rubber band on your arm, in order to draw out the vein. Mine? Well, mine popped out without the need for the rubber band. In went the needle, and out came the blood. 5 minutes after I sat down, I was finished. I then went off to work, curious at what the test would show. Definitely high cholesterol and sugar.

The results came today, and they were surprising, to say the least.

Two of the parameters were below the norm - my vitamin D and my cholesterol.

I have severe vitamin D deficit, which makes sense, because I am not in the sun a lot. The surprising one was the cholesterol. I would have bet any money that my cholesterol was too high. Instead, it's too low, but only by a tiny margin.

Am I healthy? I don't know. I will phone my doctor tomorrow to ask her what she thinks of the results. I can, however, see that I am a lot healthier than the last time I took this kind of test, so that's a plus

Employee 5...

Brian Butler, aka Trump Employee 5, is a central witness in the Mar-a-Lago classified documents investigation/indictment. Butler, was employed at Mar-a-Lago for 20 years, originally had an attorney provided by Trump, has his own attorney now and changed his story. He has spoken repeatedly with investigators as he unknowingly helped Walt Nauta deliver boxes of classified information from Mar-a-Lago to the former president’s plane in June 2022, headed to Trump's residence in Bedminster Country Club.
In and exclusive interview by Kaitlan Collins of CNN, Brian spoke out about the case and his involvement, stating he doesn’t believe the criminal case against Trump is a “witch hunt,” as the former president has claimed.

Interview here:

It's important to know, Trump's attorney had arranged a meeting with the FBI and that the search was no secret, different to Trump's claim. Also noted, Trump as former president has secret service when he travels and due to the level of top security, both local police and the governor of Florida were also informed of the search.
