Let it blow, let it blow, let it blow...

The entire state of Florida is engulfed in heavy rains and extremely high winds as a result of a low pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico. I was out a few times today and witnessed it raining sideways, about the same as a direct hit from a tropical storm. Most wind gusts are around 25 to 30 miles per hour with a few bursts of 45 miles per hour.
The wind report is easy, it's the local flooding that could occur, especially near the East coast. The warnings went out yesterday.

Some of my neighbors have moved their cars to higher ground, I'll keep watch and if I think there's a chance my street will flood, I'll move my car too. Years ago, a few of us lost cars to extreme flooding that was nearly 2 feet deep in the middle of the street. I heard it was fault of the waterway management system who failed to turn on the pumps that take sewer water into canals and reservoirs. After four hours of steady rain, It was half the night waiting for the streets to drain.

Rain water drainage is an issue...
As far as the high winds... Let it blow, let it blow, let it blow.

Our experience(s) in dating here at CS or anywhere

Maybe some of us on here have anything to share about our journey in finding the "one".

Considering all the fake profiles, scammers they are called, what truly is our chances of finding him/her on this site? Or anywhere for that matter.

I have met and found whom I thought was the one 9 years ago here. Although our distance was more than 7,000 miles apart we didn't get discouraged because what we felt from the first skype was so strong and wonderful that we didn't think of any hurdles we had to face.
Anyways I went to his place about three times and he came to my place about two times. To cut the story short, for me, it was the most interesting, adventurous and wonderful part of my life.

I read somewhere that the difficulty of meeting a real partner here isn't as easy as meeting them in family gatherings, church or the conventional and normal introduction before the web. What's with all of those mentally crazy, drug addicts, or simply players that are not who they claim they are. Married pretending to be single, and more discouraging characters which by the time you find out, has already caused you a lot of emotional roller coaster.

Well for me, I am no longer looking. I'm way past that. But meeting good friends both male or female, to me is a plus.

What about you? Please feel free to share your stories if you want. Maybe we can all learn from it.

Note: I know about six couples who have met here, still married and happy. A couple from NZ and India, From Northern Thailand and England (my best friends, he passed away , blessed his soul). From Philippines and NZ, From NY and England, From France and CH, and also our very own Mimi from Malaysia now happily living in Nebraska. The first three couples I met them 8 years ago still very happily married.

It was a terrible day...

I don't often bring bad news to my blogs, but today was a terrible day. I went to the store to pick up my new prescription glasses. They were ordered with polycarbonate lenses that are thinner than standard plastic lens and actually produce a clearer view.
Sadly they weren't ready as promised. I'm told those products are only made by the most experienced technician, but he called in sick. The apprentice was asked if he knew how to run the machinery and his answer was YES, but when he leaned over the lens grinding machine, it caught his hand and pulled him in.

The official coroner's report said that 'He had made a spectacle of himself.'

New life in an old condo...

One of my neighbors has health issues and confined to a wheelchair. She has a long-time boyfriend who owns a condo on the other side of the development, but stays with her like husband and wife. They have the parking spot next to me and often I say hello and make small-talk. I learned she's been transferred to an extended care facility now.

The other neighbor told me she was only renting and that the landlord owns a few units in the development. Less than a week later, I saw some workers moving furniture out. Curious, I stood in the doorway and was invited in by the owners who were doing some minimal cleanup.

We talked about if they were going to rent again and they decided with the great value of property now, they preferred to sell the place 'as is' but, I thought their asking price was a little high. Days later, they were doing some renovation work. They told me they had a buyer, but the bank wouldn't secure the loan. I don't know if the buyer had a credit issue or the adjuster thought the asking price was too high.

It appears they are on Plan B and now doing some renovation. Their handyman constructed a soffit in the bathrooms and removed the old style lighting. Upgraded lighting in the kitchen was also done. New toilets, a mirrored wall was removed and probably glass shower doors were installed. Paint throughout and they are installing laminate flooring this week.

My guess is $15,000 of upgrades will bring them $30,000 more in the selling price and all it takes is a buyer with cash who doesn't want to go through the renovation process and they could move right in!

Intuition

Tomorrow is the first Sunday in Advent, usually I play a very active part in this celebration at church...carry the Cross, or a candle, or helping to give out the Holy Communion etc. This year, I decided not to partake in anything, just attend church as usual. Last week, I got an e-mail from one of the priests, asking if I wanted to be a part of the Christmas play at church, as more people were needed I agreed to do so, as I'm off from work all next week.

Now I know why I decided not to be a part of the usual sunday Christmas celebrations at church. Since the end of october, I've been battling with a cold, it became better, but never left, the past week, it got worse, so much so, that last night I hardly slept because I was coughing so much. I had an appointment at the hospital this afternoon (if I had cancelled it, I would have had to wait another 3 or more months for a new appointment), before entering the waiting room at the hospital, I decided to put on a face mask. I'm glad I did, because the technician who was assigned to me is pregnant. After leaving the hospital, I kept on the mask, went to a pharmacy to get my usual medicines, as well as something for a cold, and decided to buy a Covid-19 test also.

Turns out I have Covid, now I know why I didn't want to partake in the Christmas celebrations at church. It's always good to trust your intuition. I'm not sad about having Covid, and don't expect any sympathy, just thought I'd write about it. cheers

We're getting a break on gas prices this winter...

In November, the price of gasoline (around here) was around $3.15 per gallon and dropped to $2.85 before Thanksgiving. After, it went up to $3.10 for a few days and it's back below $3.
Since some directly blame the president when the price goes up, they should also thank him when it drops... Thank you president Biden. You've done a fine job!

Drinking the worst tasting champagne ever - and getting paid to do it!

On Wednesday, I was informed that my employer would provide champagne for us on Friday, because the company is doing well. Friday came, and the champagne was poured.

It was awful. In fact, it was so bad, that it left my throat feeling VERY dry, which is not how I like my champagne. But still - drinking a glass of champagne on company time, whilst getting paid for it, is not as bad way to end a miserable week, because oh BOY was yesterday bad.

But it was a nice treat for us, and even though the champagne was terrible, it was quite nice to have 15 minutes where I didn't have to think about work.

Where I didn't have to think about deadlines. About drivers who mess up. About anything other than the quiet and the taste of the champagne.

Would I buy it for myself? Absolutely not. Was it expensive? I think it was. I am employed at a billion kroner company, after all, so they can afford to splurge on champagne.

But now - well, now is the weekend, and boy is it gonna be good! I plan to do my laundry tomorrow, and get some well earned rest!
