We either adapt or we die and given humanity's unwillingness to change, we should probably start a time capsule for future alien visitors when they try to figure out what the hell happened to our planet.
For anyone who thinks this kind of disaster can’t happen in our lifetimes, this is what liberals think about horse pollution to replace carbon pollution .......

My neighbor last year clear cut 40 acres of mature forest, mostly Oaks, Poplar, & Pine. I thought it was kind of strange that he would do that instead of selectively taking the most worthwhile logs because he was from Holland. Now many people wouldn't put 2 & 2 together and fathom the connection between Holland and clear cutting a forest so I'll just leave them to think about it.
We use solar energy and cleaned up water, like in SA. Everyone is going solar and waste has been cleaned up for a long time now. Sea water can also be desalinated, but it's expensive.
galrads: But there's Not enough power to desalinate the sea water now let alone after this kind of disaster. Most solar panels have a short life span and their waste is toxic.
Cheeky! That is why u now have the time to find a better and cheaper way of desalination and have all the required materials put together and stored for the manufacture of solar panels using solar energy.
Have you ever read a book or anything serious like that besides the comments in your daily newspaper, which conform with your opinion?
People like you are one of the biggest tragedies. When they are warned about a desaster coming up, which they only could avoid by moving their asses a tiny little bit, they claim those warnings fake. But in the moment, when the desaster gets real, they are the first and loudest to shout "why didn't you tell us before"... (and the first to put a sue on whoever)
In the UK tap water is recycled perpetually, so it won't run out. Trees can be grown anytime, anywhere, so it's highly unlikely that we will run out of them. The amount of water on the planet is constant, it either evaporates and falls as rain, or flows around on the ground. The only thing that affects the supply is the volume of creatures consuming it. Cows are a huge consumer, around 150bn on the planet, it takes around 6 gallons to make a burger, or something like that I seem to recall. Add their methane output, and bingo, the atmosphere changes.
"On this first day of a new century we humbly beg forgiveness and dedicate these last forests of our once beautiful nation to the hope that they will one day return and grace our foul earth. Until that day may God bless these gardens and the brave men who care for them." --United States President, Anderson (Silent Running, 1972).

Air Trees play a greater part in climate control. trees and other plants absorb CO2 from the air we breathe. Deforestation effects ~ 21 % of humans contribution to climate change. Reducing that 21% effect isn’t going to be overnight as you suggest. Who says we can readably replace trees. That statement is absurd.
Water I agree with you that water on planet earth is in perpetual motion, the sun causes evaporation into the atmosphere and then gravity pushes it back down.
Regardless of what you think, there is a big risk for less readily available clean water for drinking for a whole lot of people because of surface and ground water industrial pollutants contaminating them.
To add insult to injury acid rain is man made, usually so2, and is another air pollution problem that transports easily to pollute air in distant places. Environmental Canada complained for decades to Ohio that so2 generated in the Ohio valley transports to Toronto brought down again as acid rain. Desalination plants won’t make an significant difference to meet fresh water demands?
