Since noone has never made a claim of seeing God or meeting God that wasn't deemed as being a certifiable nut job then isn't it logical that God is just a happenstance of fantasy or delusion, this fact can be further proved when a believer attempt to describe God.
So can anyone describe God without the description sounding like that of delusion or the person making the description sounding irrational.
If you can not describe God without sounding delusional and yet insist on worshipping something unseen and unproven that you can't even describe ... sounds delusional to me.

I am repelled by your utter hypocrisy!

'blind faith. nothing wrong with it. you can feel it, and that is all you really need'

yes, you blockheaded dullard. Nothing wrong with it at all. Nothing wrong with a guy driving a car-bomb into a school bus of children in his ‘blind faith'. and people believing whatever they are told rather than questioning everything they are told.

Bah!

Have an original thought yourself!

We do not believe everything Nietzsche said or even half of it! He is just a good example of a great human being who questioned everything and broke dogmatic barriers stifling the learned world. C. Jung and Freud both openly acknowledged their indebtedness to him in the field of psychoanalysis.

I suppose it is not good to read Jung and Freud either? Or anything, I suppose? Indeed these great minds did not go back and read the greats and stand on the shoulders of the giants to see ahead of all before them?

Living close to great minds is the best education! Do not be fooled by this dullard!

Dullard attacking learned people for supposedly not having ‘original thoughts’ with regurgitated dogmatic trite!

Go and read some philosophy and start to think philosophically - start to think FOR YOURSELF

I find the woman you are attacking with this non-sense ten times more intelligent than you and an asset to this conversation and thread.

oh, and, please, on the blind faith rap!

STOP SUPPORTING WHAT IS DESTROYING OUR WORLD!

Another dogmatised fool.

Is there anything this woman is saying that has not been heard over and over again?

Dullard!

So shall it always be with such people - don't even bother to argue with them! Let us continue with our discussion!

He or she who says that there is nothing wrong with blind faith is blind. Go unto the ditch!

For your 'wisdom' is precisely that:

Wisdom from the ditch!

This is the first unwelcome attack I have witnessed in this tread.
The thread has gone for over 20 pages with people debating and not hating and not name calling. In fact up until now this thread gave me hope that we could discuss religion without the usual insulting jibes.
It is perfectly reasonable to expect anyone joining the debate acts with the same respect for alls views. No need for name calling my friend. We have the power to put across our views and arguemnts without resorting to personal insults. Whether you are a believer or non-believer.

It is the intellectual non-believer who finds the true meaning/value of morality on one ground at any rate because their own morality is not out of fear of punishment or in light of reward. A heaven or a hell to go to after you die or some other dogmatic rubbish that should not be a ground for morality.

Reason asserts the better principle.

I agree with you, and I am a believer in God.

However, I am a deeply non-religious believer.

point taken - appologies!

Dogmatism makes me sick for personal reasons of harm that has come to people that i love.

My appologies my friends: you are right!

That strength of opinion is too strong.

However, i still refute what this woman has said!

I am sorry again:

That was quite Schopenhauerian of me.

I treated that woman as if she was Hegel!

Maybe she was, never the less I was out of line . . .

Please accept my appologies!

I will apologise to you also, Trish, for putting you in the middle of my Schopenhauerian Hegel-like attack on this poor woman.

Sorry.

I felt very strongly of the hypocrisy of her opinions and that she thought they could wipe out everything we were saying based on, basically, nothing and an assumption of something unstated but assumed.

But if we can put that behind us . . .

I agree with you again.

Blind faith is far from original and all the great minds learned from the great minds before them and went from there: Plato himself quotes Homer and countless others!

Schopenhauer, also, has an incredible wealth of quotes from all the great philosophers before him and added his own to the cannon!

I strongly refute what this woman is saying.

Admittedly, before, though - TOO strongly.

Come on, I find this quite insulting!

'Are you capable of an original thought generated from your brain, YOUR brain? That is what i asked, and you pretty much answered the question.' she says.

I feel myself justified to attack this attack - for it is an unjustified attack.

But it is pointless indeed. For i have a feeling this woman will not be back and just entered to disrupt this thread and then pull out thinking she had rocked the world and trampled all over the intellect and wealth of knowledge of someone who is doing a PHD!

Thanks for defending me there Ray.

I am pretty astounded too at how somebody can condemn a person for knowing their Schopenhauer from their Nietzsche - I had thought most people only formed opinions when considered from a variety of angles but I guess the same rules dont always apply, especially in the realm of faith - silly me for even thinking this, as the whole concept is denied by the word 'faith'

I have no problem with the concept of God - only with theism, more to the point, with monotheism and people control.

So often on these threads, time and again, people suggest I/we read this or that holy book (they just assume we havent or how could we possibly not see things the way they do?) and self righteously suggest my/our ignorance then when people start mentioning other books or ways of reasoning, we are the ones who they attempt to cut with their words - I actually thank the person who had a go at me earlier because I went offline quite upset and had a long hard look at myself and attitudes, thankfully, I am back with renewed self belief - I learn much about human nature from these threads - long may they continue.

I have gone through the whole faith/Christianity thing and it doesnt satisfy my curiosity, or intelligence - and I am happy about this or would probably never have discovered many of the great thinkers to whom I have a debt of gratitude for my current state of mind. My search for peace in this issue has lasted many years and when I see some attitudes displayed, I am more than happy that my search is continuous rather than stagnant.

Thanks again Ray - but chill hun, dont let em get to you - I think quite often people attempt to fuel anger in us so that we will go away - I suggest not stooping to that level, you are an obviously intelligent person peace

no. Ray, I am only doing my BA (social sciences) at this point, but plan to continue - I wish I was at that point though laugh
I started the course because I wanted to know how academia works as my eventual aim is to write books - and as this is all so close to my heart, Im sure there will be many ideas suggested to my mind from these debates when that time eventually comes.

Good morning Trish, Gilly
I agree with you Ray, she was insulting, she just dressed it up in words LOL
I find Trish's posts to be interesting and enlightening, and I aslo see where Trish will put her own angle across. There is nothing wrong with quoting and using outside souces , I would say it proves more that Trish has used various references, in her journey for answers and not just the word of "The Book"
Which we kept being told to read, which many of us have read. Most of us choose to read many other books and articles as well.

Philosophy is MY religion. And Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Kant, Schopenhauer, Neitsche et al . . .

Are the GODS of my Religion: and all the gods of my religion worship each other and become stronger and wiser as they pass through time, and start to understand existence more and more! And are able to better define justice, morality, freewill, law, truth from the false, the ideal from the real etc

For all lived under the same banner:

Vitam impendere vero

'dedicate one's life to truth'

And I will share with you a quote from my own philosophy on truth! For i strive to be like the gods!

'No man who seeks the truth need fear the wrath of God, only the wrath of men - and their thus compromised constitutions'. - from my essay 'On Truth' submitted to the International Society for Philosophy

We alone are the answer here, we, WE - the philosophers!

Natural science was a branch of philosophy that is now an independent sphere of sustained inquiry.

Psychology has its seed in philosophy, and has itself branched out into psychoanalysis/phychothearapy

Philosophy is my religion and truth is the GOD that even the gods if it worship and strive to know more clearly, more dearly, and more nearly. They strive to know the truth!

But the dogmatists - the Christian dogmatists, for one - stand and kneel and stand and kneel and stand and kneel and repeat 'may we know him more clearly, more dearly, and more nearly'

And, of course, by way of this, know nothing.

Backworldsmen! (all credit to them)

I can only say that I think the passion you show is such a credit to you - and thanks for being here to share your thoughts.

I find it interesting that you point out the psychology angle and emphatically agree with you - this is one of the schools of thought which was known, but kept from the common people for so long - and extensively used against them - by the ruling classes, and in whose sole control was the big E - Education - then they have the cheek to accuse us of 'sin' - it just adds insult to the many injuries visited on our forebears - imo.
