Ah, at last - we have an intellect on our thread - someone who doesn't quote this line from Einstein as an affirmation that God exists.

He said his postition concerning god was that of an Agnostic, but rest assured that omega and half the people on here refuting posts with quotes, have never read the works of the greats they are taking them from and are, as is clearly evident, clueless as to the context they were said in.

No, I am speaking about freedom of the will as expounded by Dr Schopenhauer in his prize-winning essay on the freedom of the will (which Einstein agreed with, saying 'I do not believe in freedom of the will').

So, no, I am not advocating chaos – I am advocating intelligence.

Keeping refuting entire posts with several quotes that in no way pertain to them nor address the issues in them.

At least you can spell ‘philosophy’ now.

Is this thread really about what we believe or about what we can KNOW and therefore not refute amongst each other endlessly?

I.e objective truths, a triangle has 3 sides, or square 4 etc.

'The world wants to be deceived, so let it be deceived.': Titus Petronius

I think he was a Roman Playwright or Poet?

Thank you for the advice; one dedicates one's life to truth and this is indeed a truth.

I believe in God because Jesus was his son. If I drink his blood and eat his flesh I am free of sin. He died for my sin. The priest turns the wine into his blood and the pale piece of bread into his flesh.

I believe in freewill because I can do what I will.

Ah, wise one's - but can you will what you will?

Or do you even understand the implication of this?

Maybe Omega can shed some light on this problem of free will or out-right refute it with some more quotes plucked from Wikiquote?

It seems to Omega that trusting in our own fallibility is not wise but - what then? Trusting in someone else's fallibility - is wiser?

Or in The Holy Bible, of which Sir Isaac Newton wrote excellently and extensively of the notable corruptions? Perchance you have not read much of Newton (who wrote more about Religion - to many people’s surprise - than anything else)?

But, according to this real asset to the progress of this thread, I myself 'seem to be talking about wisdom, wisdom which academia (studying the greatest minds that ever lived or walked upon this earth) will not be giving me'.

Ha-ha-ha-ha: so shall it always be.

It was a wise man who invented beer, like Socrates said.

And what is a true heart?

Again, the great intellect required to perceive new insights into the nature of 'god' will instantly single out empty notions, absent-statements, sophisms, rhetoric and tactical rhetoric.

God will be found by anybody who looks after him with a true heart.

Excellent!!!!

I guess I'd have to make the claim that the ' intelligence' you advocate has caused more pain and suffering in mankind than any theological belief.
As to the quotes, I found them enlightening, I guess it just depends on the mindset you bring to the table.
Yes I think the thread IS about what we believe, and many BELIEVE what they KNOW.
It would be nice if we had the capacity to quantify everything on geometric, scientific terms, they we wouldn't have to make leaps of faith to explain that which science cannot quantify. But if we were blessed with infinite knowledge, what good would we be? It is not the knowledge mankind has achieved which raises us, but the quest.

Thanks for appointing yourself as the thread spell check, That is SO important!

Another 'Hamster Wheel' of the free thinking philosophical Ray of light.

I really doubt if you do understand the implication. I have my thoughts on the implication, what are yours?

Ahhh to be so blessed! The greatest minds of academia have nothing further to enlighten you? What mind altering potion will you concoct which will free our limited intellect and alow us to be creators of our own universes? Will it be legal, patented and sold on late night infomercials? And, golly gee, I sure hope that all those universes can get along.

"I want facts to back up the existence of god.

I want facts to back up his non-existence.

All opnions are welcome."

While we are at it let's also ponder this
Define the color 'White'.

White ? ...fresh fallen snow !

And of course you also have many American Standards on this achromatic color, which one you like to see ?

We do not need to look for "facts in favour of god" because when we study the "facts of religions" over the last say 5000 years we can clearly see how betrayed we've been !

Ha-Ha-Ha!

Another blockhead graces the thread!!!!

This person is attacking the person I was attacking for attacking me and thinks it’s me because he has not paid attention to the threads.

'The greatest minds have nothing further to enlighten you?'

This is what omega send to me and what I attacked blockhead!!!

So thank you for attacking me and inadvertently attacking her (blockhead).

By the way, I am towards my Doctorate in philosophy at age 24, little wise wondering gnome. I think you wondered for too long. The ‘hamster wheel’ of philosophical thought to which you allude concerning freedom of the will was agreed with by Albert Einstein.

And since this thread is ‘God . . . fact or fiction? . . . it is not about what we believe but what we can KNOW and thereFORE believe.

Otherwise: I believe if I drive a car into a school bus of Palestinians I will go to heaven and have 15 Virgins . . .

I call you out as a dullard, sir. You attacked omega while attacking me to defend her BY attacking me.

It was a wise man who invented beer.

What I would like is a 'definition' or description of the color white. Is it a color or the abscence of color? I'd like your description.

As for the 'betrayal' by religions, I don't blame the theology, but the practitioner- ie- Guns don't kill people, peoples misuse of guns kill people. Religion is a powerful force, which can and has been abused. Compare and contrast Jim Jones and Mother Theresa.
