C'mon, it's the most interesting thead on the site! And because it has went on for so long, maybe someone is looking for something they don't have. God works in mysterious ways!
I think Mindfful said it eloquently. I like your politeness countryboy but as a non-believer I will continue to non-believe if it is ok with you. It is a shame that some on both sides of this argument insist on ramming their opinion down the throats of the "opposition".
I am convinced that the God discussed here is fiction. Curiously enough, that doesn't rule out the existence of a God but just that the the set of stories built up to push the claims of an exclusively owned Christian God are fiction or at least "faction". I think other religions' sets of stories are equally incredible.
It is understandable that people need to create a life code and from that a set of rules for society but that doesn't mean the myths they use to provide a historical context and justification for their rules are real. I would be pretty sure there was a Jesus, for example, but that doesn't mean he is much like the man we see described in our historically based tales of the period.
It is interesting stuff and I find the development and change of religions over hundreds of years interesting too. Whatever truth there is in a set of beliefs seems to be mutable over time. A 13th century guy might be very unhappy with the beliefs of a Christian from 2007 and vice versa - even though both claim to follow exactly the same historical religion. For all the heat, we are probably more tolerant nowadays and therefore nearer to the supposed Christian message from Jesus of Nazareth....or have I got that wrong?
Have fun folks....but no need for (or point to) shouting at each other!! Blessed are the peacemakers.
.....though I always preferred the cheesemakers version. (click click!!)
Somewhere inside you, Fallingman, is a believer waiting to get out - or a non-believer waiting to get in, I'm not sure! For what little it's worth, you and everyone else on here are alright in my book. May we all seek the truth, and find nothing but!

You step on a puppies paws and consider it's yapping sensless!? Pathetic!
I didn't win, but you have lost, because you have closed your mind to any voice that does not exsist in your academic prison. You have more in common with Charlie than I feared. What does psychology tell you of those who torture animals?
Perhaps I am a construction worker. Where is the shame of creation, of honest physical labor?
"he who laughs longest laughs last." albiet sometimes alone, in a padded room.
Perhaps, rather than seeking the orgins of God, or even God worship, you would have more luck if you opened your heart and mind to God, and his love of you. Then your mind would be free to comprehend that which you seek so passionately.
What if God was one of us? Just a slob like one of us? Just a stranger on a bus trying to make his way home?
Nobody knows who or what 'God' is....and probably never will. It's a very subjective subject. At least, as far as I'm concerned. Sorry, I'm not as educated as some of the other people on this thread. I do like to keep a sense a humor about me, though. As my previous post shows. God is funny. Don't believe me? Go to Wal-Mart's and observe the people. I have no conclusive idea how mankind got on this planet. I'm suspecting some kind of extraterrestrial, Mr. Chemistry set kind of thing. Sorry....I can't describe it any other way. Creationism doesn't answer the question why archeologists keep finding human fossils dating well before the 'creation' of Adam and Eve. Evolution doesn't answer the question of the 'missing link'. So...the answer HAS to lie somewhere in between. I think 'God' is in all things. He/She/It is everywhere. In the trees, the rocks, the moon, the stars, etc, etc, etc.
Some may agree with me. Others may not. Doesn't really matter to me. That's my story....and I'm sticking to it.
