So you are 'towards your Docterate in philosophy at age 24? To me that means you'll be asking the immortal questions of life soon, like "Would you like fries with your burger?"

Einstien was a very intelligent man, but not the ultimate authority on life and the universe.

Is 'knowledge what we "know' or what we 'believe' we know?

I know you are really busy spell checking other threads, but I believe you will find Palestinians are Muslims, and Allah wouldn't like your attacking them and so that might explain why you get only 15 virgrns as opposed to the traditional 70.

I am wondering if I missed a potential sarcasm or if you mistyped my name?

Beer is good but it can wreak havok with your typing skills. All things in moderation, kid.

So a perfect world would be one in which everyone agrees, preferably with you?

Such a world would be fit only for the 'dullards' you so enjoy naming. Give me a world where people question, believe and debate! We may not ever agree 100%, but that causes us to reaffirm our thoughts.

I learned a long time ago to look at a wide variety of opinions and schools of thought, applying them to the questions I have and arriving at my own opinions. I also learned that it was wise to look seriously at the opposing viewpoint and consider it with an open mind. If nothing else by so doing it gave me insight into how to counter attacks from that sector. Quite often, when I put the passion of the debate aside I understood my opponent ant thier position more fully, and so came to a better understanding of the issue.

I see you as an idealistic young man, cocooned in the society of the intellectual acadamia. You are fascinated with the study of philosophy, which you think holds all the answers. You wish to show the world how deserving you are to stand as an equal to the people you so admire. The truth you seek is not in the books you study, it is in LIVING, interacting with living people, and learning that everyone you encounter is of value equal to you. More is learned of the truth from a beggar than a king.

Debating is welcomed....what I see from you is filibustering !

You just lack too many known facts.

And to address the "white issue" one last time:
Color derives from the spectrum of light (distribution of light energy versus wavelength) interacting in the brain through the eye with the spectral sensitivities of the light receptors. Color categories and physical specifications of color are also associated with objects, materials, light sources, etc., based on their physical properties such as light absorption, reflection, or emission spectra.
Typically humans are able to detect a wavelength spectrum from 400 nm to 700 nm...find out for yourself which is white !

Well, sir:

What you are asking is an 'inside job'. There is no
answer for you except what you can find out for
yourself. If you are really serious about this, then
ask yourself those questions. "Ask and you will
receive." Isn't your opinion the one true worthwhile
one to believe in?

GO FOR IT!

You missed the point.
Describing the color white is a mental exercise. Is it a color or an absence of color?
I am not filibustering as much as asking questions that make you uncomfortable.

Exactly the point I was trying to make!

yay

THis thread has no acceptable answer for all, each must decide for themselves what THEY believe.

It is interesting though that so many are threatened by those who believe in God.

dunno

Dullard that I am, I have a question concerning the study of philosophy. Is The Bible a part of your study? It occurred to me that since the Bible was the first book to be printed, and consists of the fundamentals of philosophy this would be a required resource. Are not the Ten Commandments the condensed, bare bones philosophy of existing together as a society?

Philosophers , in general, seem to exist in a social vaccuum, advocating social discord, but rarely in the front line facing the bayonets. The best use made of philosophey is as humor. Men like Mark Twain, and Will Rogers were actually philosophers who chose to speak in a language the common man could understand. They seemed to enjoy sharing thier thoughts and wisdom with the 'dullard' public, rather than isolating themselves in a closed society at a university.

Either of these philosophers would probably observe that the best rebutal to the "Orgin of the Species' was the fact it was written by Darwin. The prominance of the human race belies the whole survival of the fittest concept. Look at us, hairless apes, no claws, teeth in the wrong configuration for hunting or defence, slow runners, can't fly, or climb trees in a hurry. The Dodo was better adapted to survival than Man!

There are enough scientific evidences to support many of the claims in the bible. The Noah flood for example. So saying the bible could be seen as fiction is really making an unsubstantiated generalisation.

Hey guys, just wanted to throw something out there. I notice a lot of people using the term "religion" on here. I don't think God likes religion anymore than you do. I don't think religion is good thing, either. Religion was created by man to cause fear and be used for control, whereas Christianity, in my humble, personal, partial, prejudiced, biased opinion, is simply to be as Christlike as possible. And for Conrad and his question as to the flood - before the worldwide flood, the earth was blanketed by a large canopy of water in the outer atmosphere. This created a greenhouse effect, causing ideal conditions here on earth (temperture, humidty, etc.). When the judgement for men fell, God used this canopy of water to flood the earth. Early men in the Bible lived to ripe old ages - most lived 700-800 years - but when this canopy was dropped, it allowed the suns harmful rays of UV light in stronger than ever before. Shortly after the flood, age began to decrease to the point it is today - lucky to get to an hundred. And to put to rest any question of the flood, go to the nearest mountaintop, nay, the tallest mountaintop, and start scratching and digging around. I'm sure that sooner or later you'll find evidence of species that only dwell in the ocean. Fossils of mollusks and seashells have been found near Denver, Colorado. That's one mile up. That's a lot of water!peace

Oh, and I almost forgot, Conrad - no, there were not enough rooms in the ark for two of every kind of animal. Only the ones God chose to continue on. No dinosaurs were on the ark for sure, and any number of species that we don't even know about. And, yes, dinosaurs were created in the garden just like everything else was. I know this, because of fossil footprints found of humans and dinosaurs walking side by side. They were found in Glen Rose, Texas. It seems with enough research that everything that the Bible states is true, and can be proven scientifically. Why would the existence of God be the only thing in it that isn't true?peace
