Chains of the Heart

Within the pails of shattered dreams,
the lies of tongues, twisted and foul.
Beneath the tears of molten streams,
the jest of minds, riven with scowl.
Does it matter anymore?

Straight into my heart's descent,
far below a life's ascent.
What's left to adore?
Left alone to face despair,
to suffocate in abundant air.
What's not to abhor?

Through the years, I kissed your pain,
I faced your fears, I took the blame.
Your restless heart, no one can tame,
my freedom now begets your shame.
It doesn't matter anymore.

Heartbreak

He wants to say "I love you,"
But keeps it to "Goodnight."
Because love would mean some falling,
and she's afraid of heights.

What does it take to be a Poet?

Today someone asked
me "what does it take to be a
poet?"

& I, feeling flippant,
(because I am wearing an
18th century dress
& think myself in love),

answer:

"determination,
talent, & the desire
to have your soul torn out
& printed upon the page."

(pause)

I even believe it, poet...

looking as I do
like an advertisement
for easy success-

sly smile on my lips
& ruby red slippers
from Oz.

Suppose
they saw me
my eyes
swollen like sponges,

my hand
shaking from betrayal,

my fear
rampant in the dark?

suppose
they saw
the fear
of never writing,

the fear
of being alone,

the fear of ...
the fear...
the fear...
the fear of
succumbing to fear?

(pause)

& then there's
all I did not say..

to be a poet
what you need
is....

something to say

something that
burns like a fire
smoldering in your gut.

something that
aches like desire
in your groin

& the courage
to love
like a wound
that never heals.

Beneath the Surface

Wish you could know, it's profound to see.
The secrets, the pain, that's all you can read?

In the darkest of night, what do you perceive?
The remnants of a man, destroyed for the thrill?
The scars of a father unable to heal?

You look in my eyes and I know not what you see.
Perhaps just a riddle? A pupil? Not me.

The Lonesome Dove

Where be it now
The one that you love,
Her eyes sparkle not
Lips frozen in the moment
The lonesome dove

At peace in sleep
The breathe comes not
Gone from the body
All that I love
And says no more
The Lonesome dove.

Spread your wings
And fly far away
For no more the torments
Nor pressures of life
Forever at rest
The Lonesome dove

I love you most
My flower of life
My reason for existing
Cut short from above
And I love you still
Though miss you so
Never to return
The lonesome dove

And here we stand
in rain and sun
wondering on the breeze
of the one i so miss.
Under the stars and in the mist
Prey you'll Fly back to me just once
For nothing but a kiss
The Lonesome dove.

I Miss You So Much!

I miss you much, so much! Could hardly bring to mind,
When was it that a carefree boy he once to woods you took,
When was it that he picked you cherries at a price of smile,
Ripe cherry dress – same as in past it so befits, adorns you.
Oh it may be that time puts out what's good, one likes,
So that its price should rise, like price of dreams unproved.
Oh I can see our steps like hare’s marks that follow path,
Wish you remembered, Eli, how we called it 'day of woods'.
Now time that passed made me again crave for that day.
Should I behold you I might cry, I miss you much, so much!

About this poem:
Love again - there's no escape from it! Another translation of our Georgian poet. This must have been his first love - as it seems from the poem, but we all could relate, the most cherished and poignant memories are with the first love - no other love could compare!

Magic Spell for Love's return

Oh for a candle I could light
to draw you close...
Oh for a poppet
made like you,
with your own lovely body
sewn again of cloth,
with your own pale
unseeing eyes,
with your manhood sweetly curving,
remade in wax or clay....

Oh for an herb
to place upon my tongue
to bring your tongue
to mine..

Oh for a potion
I could drink
or slip to you
at some stale
dinner party....

Oh for your nail parings...
Oh for your hairs...
stirred in a brew,
baked in a millet cake...

I would make a stew,
a soup, a witch's mix
to bring your lovely thighs
to mine.

I would boil bats if not babies<BR>
& toads if not theologians
to make you care....

I would enter your blood
like malaria, enter your eyes
like laser beams, enter your palms
like the holy spirit
causing stigmata
to a sex-starved saint!

Oh, love,
I would spell you
evol
if mere anagrams
would bring you
near....

But I spell you love
& still
you do not
hear.

Broken man

You were magic in my eyes
To beautiful you were
Your womanly charm burned
Through my soul
Perhaps I was to young to
Handle the fire within you
But my young heart plunged
Into the vortex of your
Spirit, and you let me taste
The kiss of your mouth
Your electric eyes never told
Me that I was playing with fire
Yet I was a fool for passion
You drew a portrait of my face
And smiled as I relished your
Talent
We held hands in church but how
Was I to know the devil was in
Your heart?
Men were struck down by your
Beauty
A twitch of your finger, your
Black hair catching the sun and
I was undone
You made me believe I could crush
A mountain with your sensual smile
And you stold my soul with your naked
Body
But you found love in the arms of another
And deaths tears killed my soul
My love had been taken from me
My heart thrown to the wind
All that's left are my scribbled
Thoughts on crumpled paper
I need me back again
What did I do to deserve
This loss?
I lay in the dust waiting
For life..

Silent tears

Silent screams that will never be told
Silent tears I cry alone
You left me to never be seen
Silent screams and tears
Bring out my fears
My mind races with thoughts of you
I dream of you
only to be awoken up from my silent tears
My eyes are puffy my throat hoarse
If only my dreams of you didn't leave me sad
I would never have to shed these silent tears

Not the same

Not the same
Now that he's gone.
Not the same
without his love.
It's like I'm empty inside
I just wanna crowl and die.

Why did you leave me?
If you was all I ever had
Why did you abandoned me?
When i needed you by my side.
