My guess is it's a ritual of dominance. Chickens do something similar to establish a pecking order. One chicken will stand tall and face another chicken and the other chicken will do the same. The one who stands taller wins and gets to eat etc first.
As a trucker myself, I'd like to add something to this thread. In the US virtually all trucks on the road esp the interstates are in radio communication with each other. There is also another form of communication used by truckers. They signal to each other with their lights. It used to be common practice years ago for cars to signal their intention to pass a truck by pulling out and turning their bright lights or high beams on. Thankfully this practice seems to be on the wane. The last thing you want to do is blind the guy driving a 80,000 vehicle at the exact time you're trying to drive between him and guardrail. When a trucker flashes his lights at another truck, it means it's safe to pull in front of him. So by flashing your lights at a truck you are sending the opposite message you wanted to send. You're telling him it's ok to cut in front of you. Also, if a truck is trying to pass you and you see the back of his truck is clear of your vehicle, flash him your high beams or shut off your lights for a second. This will tell him it's safe to pull over in front of you. It may surprise many people but a truck driver doesn't know PRECISELY where the back of his trailer is. If he misjudges, he could push you right off the road.
I've thought it should be a part of driver education to teach the truckers light system to all new drivers.
I lived with a woman for about 7 years, even owned a house together. We both worked full time jobs, no kids. We set up a joint checking account and we each deposited $800 into the account every 2 weeks and used that account for everything related to the house. Personal items were paid by each one like gas for the cars, eating lunch while at work etc. It worked out really well with absolutely no conflict what-so-ever. When we split up and sold the house we each took out what we put in and anything left over we split 50/50.
It seems so obvious to assist the bodies own immune system to defeat this disease. The way diseases defeat the immune system is by tricking the immune system into not recognizing the disease as an alien invader. It often does this by cloaking itself in normal cells which the antibodies wont attack giving the disease free reign to multiply and spread throughout the body. I find it quite ironic that people turn to god to help fight the disease when science is doing all the work and this supposedly all powerful entity who allegedly created the whole universe in 6 days including Cancer, stands by and does nothing. I suppose that if science is successful in curing Cancer, people will say "thank god". Hilarious.

My problem with an expanding universe has to do with the assertion that not only are the galaxies flying away from each other but they are accelerating. Nothing can accelerate without some force contributing energy to it. Scientists have never found the source of this force so they elected to call it Phantom Energy. I'm sorry but that sounds a little too much like Alice in Wonderland for my taste. You either find the source of this force and quantify it or IMO it doesn't exist. The beauty of all this is whatever theory anybody comes up with it can never be proven or disproven. Ken, the Red Shift can be explained by something like gravity actually slowing down the light wave or particle or whatever light is. A blue shift must be an approaching light source unless gravity can also speed up light which is doubtful. The observation of a blue shift alone blows the theory of an expanding universe right out of the water. You can't have it both ways. So Love_stick, you ask what I'm into it's simply this. The speed of light is not finite. If it were, there could be no such thing as a black hole, once again, you can't have it both ways. Black holes and a finite light speed cannot exist at the same time, one negates the other.
Thanks Gypsy. I've given the subject a lot of thought. I don't ascribe to the scientific theory of the big bang because it has way too many inconsistencies such as the universe is expanding based solely on a 19 century phenomenon called the "Doppler Effect". That may work for train horns on earth but other factors are probably involved when trying to extrapolate that basic idea to Galaxies millions of light years away. Especially when light must run the gamut of a gravitational matrix. I accept the Biblical explanation even less by an order of magnitude. "And god separated the dark from the light and said it was good..." Oh puleeze! BTW are you a Hungarian Gypsy?
The concept of the birth of the universe suddenly beginning as a ball of intensely dense matter which exploded is nothing more than a theory. The fact is nobody knows how the universe began if in fact it even had a beginning. I don't think mankind will ever know for sure because there is no way to go back in time to the beginning and observe the event. Even if this universe was preceded by another universe which collapsed the question remains how did the former universe begin? The simplest thing to do is enjoy thinking about it but don't expect to ever know the answer.

Where did this happen? Can you post a link to the story? What was a blind man doing with a gun and if his sight was so impaired, how could he see the guy had 2 large kitchen knives and how come he didn't recognize it was his nephew and being blind how was he able to hit him? This story is full of holes...pun intentional!
@owl, I think you underestimate early man. I am certain he was probably more familiar about death than people are today. Death was all around him and he himself had to kill to survive unlike people today who are far removed from the reality of death. They think chicken comes from MacDonald's all seasoned and breaded and cooked to perfection. The fear you talk about was also invented the fear of being thrown into a fire and not just until you die but for eternity which in itself makes the prospect totally unbelievable because no crime can be so heinous as to warrant such a punishment.
