My ex-girlfriend was the only divorced woman in Switzerland who came out worse than the other party after the divorce....with her limited resources, she HAD to make every buck count....she hardly ever bought new clothes...savvyest shopper I ever knew...Most of the time I couldn't tell the difference between new and used by looking at it. She would take 25 bucks and come home with a bag full of clothing...I once took her to an "designer" second-hand store....amazing stuff, jackets, hats, jewellery, from the ridiculous to the sublime, all about 30% of the price. She went crazy... I think the existence of these shops depends more on the affluence of that particular society...In Switzerland, a lot of people turf out last years clothing, just because it's last years....crazy, absolutely crazy. So the second-hand stores here are filled with relatively new stuff, mostly in excellent condition, and costing peanuts....Maybe there's a business idea there for some female entrepeneur with flair...:-)

But maybe our modern day ideals about love are based more on Hollywood, which is all about infatuation...with all the subsequent high divorce rates of today...
Maybe we should have a return to arranged marriages....like in India. Let friends, parents, family decide who suits us best....
Rusty, Be careful... if you show too much bravado, intellect and wit in your replies.....you may find yourself inundated with women just like Picky from all over Europe, pitching up on your doorstep, eager to audition for all sorts of menial and degrading roles....ohmagod, don't go there! If you tire of the sport and run short of space, you can shack them up in my Bugibba flat....and audition them one by one....
It never does......it morphs into something else.... but you just have to be intelligent and commited enough to stay with it...trust me, been there...Life is fraught with compromises....
Why do we choose the one, when we all secretively crave both...?? Wouldn't you rather have a year of living every moment like it's your last, than a lifetime reminding yourself that you're making a compromise....? Great question...difficult to answer...can't choose, won't choose....holding out for both...:-)
Ok, I get it....it was a fabulous evening of drunken revelry, wenches in low-cut décollettés, footsies under the tables, beer and rum sloshing in the galley et al...well, for the benefit of us who couldn't be there because we had to tie up bundles of newspaper for recycling and throw out the trash..., how about posting some incriminating photos to make us envious...??

This is a great question....I have asked myself the same many times....why do people willfully lie about their ages/situation/photo/whatever...if they know that the moment they meet you, the cat will be out of the bag!? It's like programmed disappointment! Yeah, it easy to imagine becoming cynical about online dating, and then suddenly you meet someone absolutely charming....and it's like the sun came out on a rainy day... Chin up, Sunshine..
There will never be quorum on this question....however, I believe most women will never be happy with just a body shot in a profile, but most men probably wouldn't mind too much...!! What does that tell you about men??....Don't answer that... Would I go for nice emails or nice bodies??...Honestly....? I'm sorry, I have replied to too many nice emails without photo, and been disappointed, to trust faceless profiles anymore....so I'd rather start with the body, at least what you see is what you get...no pic, no play...basta!

I'm all for both....Face is important, but so is body!! In my opinion, police style front, back, side, mugshot....no make-up, brutal reality....NO surprises when you meet. Better still, completely naked...leave nothing to the imagination...who's first?

That begs the question....what exactly is love? is it infatuation, the "Romeo-Jukiet" factor, or is it a long-term development? Is it what you should base your marriage on? The 60 % divorce rate in some western countries says no....
I think the age-gap issue is largely personal opinion...but the physical world will not be denied!....let's say the guy's 60, and his partner is a lithe 40, I can imagine that without too much trouble...but what happens when he's a dodgy 75, pottering around in the garden, and she's a still-stunning 55 out on the town? ...There is a standing joke here in Switzerland about these hundreds of pension-age swiss farmers who run off to Thailand and come back with gorgeous 22 year-old Thai girls as wives....you see them every day on the street...say what you like, but people sni**er, and it does look pretty silly, him with his bald head and silver hair, and her looking like something out of a video game... Once again, I think it's personal opinion....if you are young, you probably think it's a probleml ...if you're old like me, you probably think it's just fine!!!...lol
