Well, I've been known to cook up some 'shine every so often. It starts by fermenting 6-8 kg of sugar, then running it through a reflux still. Comes out about 95% ethanol, cut it a bit over half and half with water, then age it in a demijohn with barrel chips a month or more... Yeehaa grandmah!!
My point being, any of the steps could lend a name- cooking, distilling, fermenting, aging, racking, refluxing, etc.
