Europe is the place I make my home, having lived in the Middle East, the US but Europe is where I will come home to. Host families are common and I know they have them in the US, as my friend's son is at school in Colorado and he lives with a host family.
Well come on over, it is wonderful and certainly there are many places you could visit and hopefully find a person who wants to put you up. A suggestion, maybe a few days here and there, rather than just one place...
Yes, the trust thing rears it's head again and again...
I often think this when a person runs a hotel or a bed and breakfast as many places do here in Austria, they open up their homes and allow strangers in and usually it is their private homes as the houses are large enough to do this.
They trust, very much the honour system in place here and their are few stories of people not being successful at this.
I too thought it was a valid question and I received a lovely email from the poster, who admidst his attacks was gentlemanly and kind. Never once bitter and just superb in his manner and his approach on this thread where he was completely attacked, told he was disgusting, to go put a shirt on and two men who could not handle the openmindness of a man much younger than them.
Something that sits very heavily with me, when a person is attacked like that.
Have you seen page one of this thread? Where posters assumed the OP was gay? Where he was told to put a shirt on? Where he was attacked meaninglessly?
That is completley wrong. I completely agree.
A personal attack is when it is directed at a person, as the OP has suffered.
We all make judgements when we see a thread. The above post you are referring to is not an attack it is a question to a poster who has stated her opinion.
Actually, we used to do this as kids at my boarding school. Students who were taking a year off would stick notices up on the notice board and families would take them in.
I don't think it is mad at all, I think people will distrust your motives simply because of the distrust they have around the 'online' aspect.
Thank you for your kind comments. It has been a great eight months. Some people thought at one point that I was him and I had two profiles, to make poor little Sommer feel better.
So while we never posted after the initial meeting, it has been ongoing and as any relationship runs concurrently alongside our lives.
Now I have three months off work, I can concentrate on my relationship.
