RE: SO COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wave Hi Loner and all!!!

I too, like the winter. The crisp and cold; no I don't enjoy the -25 temps but it is part of the cycle that matters so much. The snowfall is a cover over the scars that have been made on the earth and the moisture for the renewal of spring and the do-over we all to often forget that we are blessed with.
Winter, the sound of skate blades on the ice, the echo of curling rocks hitting each other, the crunch of the snow beneath your feet, kids laughing and screaming their way down the sliding hill....the hoar frost, the pristine and constant white after a good snowfall and watching a child try to catch snowflakes with her tongue!
Don't forget how incredible warm treats, edible or drinkable taste after getting a little cold outside! angel

Once again K, you found one that made me laugh...and that I needed - hmmm....now I wonder, how many men would require placing there ears upon the bosom, if only to "hear you better my dear"?

RE: Quitting smoking...

applause wave

Good for you!!! I often don't post, but really want to offer support and encouragement - quitting smoking is a HUGE undertaking and those that try it and do it deserve incredible support. In January will be 2 years for me, I used Ziban and have and have had no desire (smoked since I was 13), hate the smell too - Hints: Exercise - and any other activity it is difficult to smoke while doing: Gum (sugarless), hard candies, SELF TALK AND VISUALIZATION: Reward yourself(after each week that I had not spent x amount of $ on smokes I bought myself something little I otherwise would not have) - Now, after almost 2 years I don't feel guilty buying myself a really nice bag!
It has been 2 years since my guy quit. He used everything under the sun and still chews Nicotine Gum, but that is far better than 1 pack a day! A hint he was given that he said really worked, it was in a pamphlet at the Dr. office, is GET A BUNCH OF CINNAMON STICKS AND SUCK OR CHEW ON ONE AS MUCH AS YOU WANT. This is supposed to really work!!!!
All the best to you,,,YOU CAN DO IT!!!! thumbs up

RE: Life and Love

Yes K, it was really neat, wish we could of got together; glad you made it back home. All is well, better than well. Funny, what honest communication and taking down walls can accomplish! wink The hardest part about it all is having to come home....but only for awhile...many decisions have been made....conversing and will continue to be...."Just for Today" - thumbs up There will always be hurdles and bumps in life and love, we can choose to turn and run or face them and solve them..."WE" have chosen to face it all, as individuals and a couple, because we believe.....And when things go wrong and it hurts so bad, you know that it matters to you. angel And it matters, to both of us hmmm
Flying? Fantastic!!! For the most part, just don't like landing!!!confused

RE: Life and Love

Wise words and really true, just so hard to believe in when it all is going really wrong....really fast and there is nothing that you can do to stop it; when there is no blame and it's just bad timing, but it is still so hard to breathe and to see that there is an ahead....

If you could have been there....where would it be?

It's not terrible or morbid - think most people would like to witness world/life altering events; it's human curiousity and the need for an occasional adrenaline rush angel

RE: It Takes Some Convincing....

confused dunno

I really don't think I have a flipping clue what I am talking about and am starting to think that my "instinct" could be hell bent on leading me to places I don't ever want to be again sigh

RE: Weather

wave Hi Kid! Kim is right, those UV lamps really do help alot of people get through the winters and avoid seasonal affective disorder. Weather is diffferent here in Whitehorse, they have snow, alot, since I landed, but the locals are all shivering and cold where as I am not finding it so cold - because it is so much dryer here than Sask. The lack of humidity makes a huge difference. They are saying that is is wetter than usual and far icier - so am hoping for a safe trip for Kim and her man - sure he knows what he is doing though.
My kids are in Calgary this wknd and I hear that it is quite cold there right now, so you stay warm Kid ; take care and smile! angel cool

RE: It Takes Some Convincing....

wave Hmmmm...good post. Listening to and trusting in and acting on my gut instinct....I have learned; looking back; that if I had, life would have been different - so now I do; and life is. It is right. Yes, there are the flutterbies, but it really isn't the frantic "I need" craziness; it is a laid back, relaxed, see you at the end of the day, laughter and exploration and passion....a connection on a different level that is hard to explain and very private and personal. The difference? Perhaps the time taken and the patience involved in really getting to know one another and the ability to communicate that we have - it is real.

The "wrong" relationship - I knew and was in denial, I know and have moved on - it is the past, where is belongs. Did I learn? Hell yeah....alot about others; and more about myself. The reality is, regardless of the unhealthiness and craziness of the past, when you have children together, there is always that connection on some level - so it is best to put it all where it belongs, for your own sanity. angel

RE: Hello I'm new to the site and am looking to make some new friends

wave Hi all, hi Loner, I have decided to explore the beauty of the north. Have been here for a week. Since I have been here it has dropped to -20 C and dumped about 4-5 inches of snow - had to go buy good boots! I hear that it is beautiful at home, but really not missing it. The cold here is very different, dry, so it is deceiving in a way. Anyways, welcome to all! This is a great site and there are many good people to be found jackolantern Happy Halloween!!

RE: A love story ... have plenty of tissues on hand.

The strength fo the parents and the child is overwhelming - really wonder if I would have it in me and don't ever want to have to find out, that is one road of discovery I don't want to travel......
Makes one very thankful for the health of their own...thanks for sharing Kim. All is thumbs up

RE: Passchendaele

What is Passchendaele about, in a nutshell?

Seeing Appaloosa is on the todo list thumbs up

RE: BLAME CANADA!

There are not many places in Canada that don't have cold spells. Calgary can actually be quite warm in the winter when the Chinook blows in. But the Rockies are so close and inviting and there are fantastic things to do in and around the city....Alberta has alot to offer.

Welders that make the big bucks are Journeymen Welders and keep all of their tickets up to date...it takes years to get to such a level and alot of schooling. Most of them are also member of various unions, pipefitters, ironworkers and boilermakers....

So, sorry, realistically, you'd be starting on the bottom - but even the entry level trades pay decent. dunno Good luck

RE: How do men feel about bigger woman?

I understand, because I am kind of the same - most smiles from me in pictures feel and look fake, unless they are taken when I am not "posing", and not even aware....I was told it is fear of the camera...go figure LOL. In real life, I smile and laugh - as I am sure you do to. Kim is right, you are gorgeous and there is something in your eyes that a good man will see - I know....Take care, Eyes handshake purple heart

Whatever happened to.....

Soap on a rope?

When my parents moved, my dads top drawer was full of these fantastic bath accessories - as an adult, I now wonder, were men to hang the soap around their necks, and if so, how the hell would they soap up their feet? Just wondering...

"Clear" Cream soda? Where did it go? I think here is was made by Fanta or Crush - it wasn't red, it was clear, but really good....

What products from your yesteryears have you kinda wondered "where have they gone?"

wave Hi handshake

RE: Happy Birthday Wikked!

Happy Birthday cake party

Have a wonderful day to represent the year to come...ain't it great being a Libra!!!!! handshake balloons

RE: Setting Boundaries

Just my opinion and experience Wikked, but you are exerting way to much energy and thinking way too hard about what "they" are doing....I was there once, and with alot of help and guidance learned that the only person I can control and change is me and to worry and think about what I do and say as a parent. You do what is right, and yep, Kim is right, it is hard and there are no immediate (or very few)rewards and yep it pisses you off when others try and take your credit and all of that - but in the end, if you stick to your parenting convictions with respectful, firm but flexible boundaries, you will have earned your children's respect and know that you did your very best ... "he" will be the schmuck in the end - most of the time cheering

RE: BLAME CANADA!

wave I would suggest that you research every province/territory and the major centres in each....Canada is a terrific country, from east to west, north to south, with several different cities and areas that each are unique as far as culture, employment, recreation, cost of living and weather etc. etc.
It's the great thing about the internet, you can go virtually anywhere and then pick and choose a place the fits your needs and wants....good luck, hope you find what you are searching for. A proud Canadian...

RE: Setting Boundaries

I think you have to remember that many people parent in a style that is not in the best interest of the child, but in their own best interest; When together, my ex was very disengaged as a parent, and has now taken on the role as peer/buddy; to the extent that he allowed a then 11 yr. old to smoke and provided him with such, because it made the "kid happy" - this is just ONE example of the lack of boundaries. I didn't have the energy to fight with the older child, he went to live with Dad - result, he is almost 17, no job, quite school with a grade 8. Both my sons resent my rules, expectations, boundaries etc. and are very verbally abusive to me - and very disrespectful to most authority. I fought tooth and effing nail for the youngest and continue to do so. He has Conduct disorder so is very oppositional to authority - yep, ME. Dad isn't authority, cuz he doesn't show any. Is it hard, damn right it is ... but I have the responsibility as a parent to do whatever I can that is in the best interests of my child. Sometimes, the best, most logical and rational thing is the most difficult to do. This is just my humble but very battered opinion.
I tried the whole co-parenting thing and would suggest that if you can do this with your ex, do it. I wrote a proposal to his lawyer, leaving no stone unturned, whereby there would be CONSISTENCY AND VERY SIMILAR STRUCTURE AND EXPECTATIONS in both homes. That is what is best for the kids and it significantly shuts the door on the manipulation that they all figure out real quick. My lawyer was very impressed and suggested I market this proposal...my ex? refused, because it didn't meet his needs...and it would require communication between he and I (which now I know would have been real bad). handshake hug
NO MATTER WHAT, PARENTING IS THE HARDEST JOB IN THE WORLD AND OFTEN THE MOST UNAPPRECIATED!!!

RE: what are you thinking about the election.........

I tend to agree kid. Think that we cannot sit back and be complacent about anything. Atleast we have a bit of a headsup. And you are right, they are saying, don't spend what you can't afford
Anywhooo, the decision has been made and it is what it is. Very interesting occurrence, Saskathchewan is notoriously quite NDP, yet they were shut out here. confused so we can see a trend toward a shift from the "traditional norm".
Have a great day wave

RE: How do men feel about bigger woman?

Sorry, not meaning to hijack your thread Alberta, but seen this on the Int'l Forum and just had to paste it here - somehow "fits"

Exercise

Walking can add minutes to your life. This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $7000 per month.
My grandpa started walking five miles a day when he was 60. Now he's 97 years old and we don't know where he is.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

The only reason I would take up walking is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.

I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing.

I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to go there.

Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise', I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

I do have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers them.

The advantage of exercising every day is so when you die, they'll say, 'Well, he looks good doesn't he.'

If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.

I know I got a lot of exercise the last few years, just getting over the hill.

We all get heavier as we get older, because there's a lot more information in our heads. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

AND

Every time I start thinking too much about how I look, I just find a bar and by the time I leave, I look just fine.

If you could have been there....where would it be?

wave Just to give y'all something to think about. If you were given the opportunity to "time shift" and attend any world event, where would you like to go and what would you like to witness? The catch is, you will only be a "fly on the wall", cannot change the course of events or history. Oh, and if it is too difficult to narrow down to one, share all! wine

Mine?

1.I would love to witness my Great Grandma disembarking at Halifax, April 1914; after leaving her family in Edinburgh to marry her love here in Saskatchewan.

2. I would like to have the opportunity to witness the very minute that victory was announced of WWII.

Of course, there are many, many more.....angel

RE: checking up on CS before hiring you

confused

This is beyond BIZARRE!!! (jmho).... but we have rights and the very fact that any company is cruising the internet, filtering through what individuals are saying on any given site????? Yes, I do realize that once we have posted something, it essentially becomes public domain, but....

I have to say that any business or company who practices the aforementioned would not even have my interest as a potential employee - in other words; WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO WORK FOR THEM???? I mean, they have the time and mentality to spy on people? Do they follow people to restaurants and grocery stores to see what they eat and drink? Somehow I doubt it....But, I do wonder if someone shared this little tidbit with you to deter you from this and other site???? Is that possible? angel

RE: Most romantic song...

RE: checking up on CS before hiring you

Not that I believe that CS has/holds any bearing on employment status or possibilities, but no, not worried in the least. dancing
