I meant that I have noticed that you do obviously feel very strongly about discrimination, and was just curious as to what your experiences had been in this respect.
I didnt mean that you discriminate! As I said, I didnt make myself very clear!
Ireland did the same thing as lots of other countries - INCLUDING the USA (in their own way), by the way...
Jumped on the Credit Bandwagon, rode the Celtic Tiger gleefully, gobbled up all the good things offered from the EU,and burped loudly with satisfaction.
Now, they are suffering as the rest of the world is financially, and cannot ride the ride no more, and unlike larger and stronger countries they are unable to cope.
I have no sympathy, really, Im afraid. And I felt the same way when I still lived in Ireland too..
Firstly, Joanne and Eric married in the States, spent some time together and then decided to return to Canada. That instantly made the situation easier for them, rather than if they had married in Canada. If Jesse had come to Ireland, married me there, spent a certain amount of time there, we could have come back to the States together, without any hassle much at all.
Secondly, the rules in Canada as regards paperwork are very different to the rules in the US, as has been brought out in this thread already, so the two cases are not really comparable.
Jesse and I married in the States. There is no problem with our situation at all. It is just the amount of paperwork that is the problem, and the cost.
Well, the reason I asked is that I have to file AND PAY for all the papers AT THE SAME TIME. No sending the papers and then waiting for us; it all has to be paid for then and there.
And I envy you re the $550. This is going to cost us about 3 times that much, and it all has to be produced upfront. And thats US Dollars..
My sister became an American Citizen a couple of years ago now. I remember her telling me that the Citizen Test was so tough, even her own American Husband didnt know the answers to some of the questions!!
Thats why Im glad Im generally interested in politics and economics and suchlike. Jesse is also very good with teaching me about the Constitution and similar, so I have a good teacher..
Although I find the US Immigration tough, I do understand and respect it. I dont expect any benefits of any kind until I am a US Citizen. I know what I was getting into, and I am living with it! So, yes, I agree again with you about your comment above..
I am somewhat out of touch with the situation in the EU now, but I do find it interesting to hear about your own experiences there, trying to move around and also to be joined with your loved ones. Its a contradiction in terms, that European Union, and I am finding it quite hard, to be honest, to see what good has really come out of it. But, as I say, I am somewhat out of touch with it all now, so am no expert!!
Obviously my own situation is slightly different, as Im going down the Family Route for Permanent Residence, and I dont wish to go off topic here. But I have to say this: I have already been offered TWO jobs here in Ogdensburg, well paid jobs in offices, but am UNABLE TO TAKE THEM until my paperwork is all through.
So, because I am going down the legal route I am being penalised, because I KNOW FOR SURE that there are illegals working not 10 miles from here..
I understand from Jesse that you and Eric were married BEFORE you returned to Canada. That makes life alot easier for you, than it did for me, of course.
Its good to hear of your experiences, though, Jo..
So, in that case, perhaps all immigration procedures and costs should be dropped for ALL, then..
Why should I pay large amounts of money, and spend hours and hours painstakingly filling out paperwork, because I want to DO IT PROPERLY, if I could just do the banana boat thing and get it for free??
RE: Ireland has just sold its independance to Europe.
Hi Chris..Sorry, I didnt make myself very clear there!
I meant that I have noticed that you do obviously feel very strongly about discrimination, and was just curious as to what your experiences had been in this respect.
