Given the fact that I am currently spending LARGE amounts of money and time going through the LEGAL route of Immigration into the US from Britain, this is a sore subject for me..
I had a choice; I could send the first lot of papers off, and THEN the subsequent pack (which included the medical). After speaking with the local USCIS, I was advised, if possible, to wait, and send EVERYTHING off together, because then it was more likely that it would speed up the whole process and the likelyhood of paperwork getting lost was minimised.
Of course, this ALSO means that there is LOTS more to get together, LOTS more expense at one time. But we decided that we would rather wait, and send everything off together and pay for everything together, so we knew it was all done, and we could then relax.
I have no problems, my circumstances are all in order (according to all the requirements). My only problem at present is just the AMOUNT of paperwork!!
I have only this morning, had to arrange my Medical Examination that is mandatory to send with my papers. The nearest centre is 2 1/2 hours drive away, and I have to go TWICE in two days.. Plus, of course, its another US$160...
Hi KMD, and thanks for posting your experiences with Eric..
Luckily, the above emboldened bit and the part in my previous post about knowing about an American having trouble getting into Canada was not about me, but someone else. I just found it amazing that a minor infringement all those years ago (the person is now in their 50s), would still affect their chances of going over the Canadian border from the States..
For the people that choose to go through the "proper" channels to emmigrate, which costs a fortune and and alot of time and stress, they are going through all of that to become a Citizen LEGALLY, and therefore will expect to receive relevant rights as such.
For those who try and avoid the legal route, NO - Why the hell should they, or WOULD they, be entitled to ANYTHING..
Thank you to all who posted on here. I did it partly as a vent, to let go of some of the stress I have been feeling under due to all this immigration crap. It is hard, and puts pressure on an otherwise very happy life.
I wanted to let others know, who have posted previously in other threads being skeptical about people who want to emmigrate, that it is NOT AN EASY OR UNSTRESSFUL process, and only us who are really committed and sincere are likely to survive it, to be honest. So, all the stories about scammers and gold diggers after Green Cards on this forum is nonesense, as most of you already know of course.
Thank you to all who posted on here, gave me other perspectives and I gained some extra strength from your stories, knowing that I am not the only person who has experienced this stress.
Thanks for your kind comments about my posting. Well, yes, of course some view me differently now - I understand that. Most are great, and very positive; a very, very few have not been.
I am already trying to post again and will continue to do so.
Those are both jailable offences.. Actually, I think Pebbles would have done that job pretty well, but unfortunately she appears to have disappeared over the CS Wall..
And you can be duly deported from this thread..
As soon as the next Supreme Court Judge walks past you will be duly sentenced, hung by the thumbs until death (or brain damage -whichever happens first) occurs...
PS - Jesse says you would be a cute stalker tho...
Im pretty much on top of all the paperwork, Chris - at last! The requirements for me are not a problem, nor, luckily, is the expense, but that makes the trauma and stress of actually going through the whole affair no less taxing - either for me or Jesse!!
I just wanted to share my experiences, and listen to others also.
As regards the Schengen - well, Im sorry! I will write both London and Dublin for you right now!!

Do you REALLY think that the "borders will soon come down", Ray? I think thats a nice idea, but I cant see that ever happening, really..
Can you imagine countries like Iran, China, North Korea, Yemen, etc, being happy for their borders to be open to all and sundry? I find that unlikely, personally. In an ideal world, I like the concept, but I cannot see it ever occuring.
I do agree with your comment about "living conditions everywhere coming down to the lowest common denominator", though. I do definately agree with certain requirements being met, if you wish to emmigrate - i.e. financial, having the ability to speak the native language well and easily, etc.
Thank you, Ray for your post. I find it very informative, and its interesting to learn about other people's experiences.
One comment - regarding the emboldened part above - dont you find that somewhat at odds with the general policy that the USA likes to portray? As in - freedom, independence, welcome to all, etc? This is NOT A CRITISISM - Simply an observation..
Because we are NOT all world citizens. I cannot imagine a world with no physical borders at all, to be honest. Not sure that would really work either..
Also, some countries obviously have a far better standard of living than others, so if there were no restrictions at all it would be somewhat crazy, I think.
Some restrictions, testing, and meeting of requirements is fine, as far as Im concerned. Lets just make sure they are fair, and reasonable to ALL involved - thats all I ask..
Yes, I am beginning to hear about all this type of thing. It is insane, and priorities here seem somewhat mixed up when it comes to the immigration policies.
I do understand why they make it complicated, and longwinded like they do, yes. Obviously the US has to be careful who they let in, I understand that. It just seems to me that maybe they need to look at other areas of the immigration procedure more closely, and back off in others..
Im also beginning to think that if I had gotten an old bath tub or tree trunk (as long as it floats, basically!) , scutted across the Atlantic and landed on the shores of Florida, screaming dementedly in uncomprehensible Spanish, then I would have been welcomed with open arms!!
From what I have already come across, I find it very hard to establish HOW all these illegal immigrants do it, to be honest! The paperwork and expense involved is immense..
I find it annoying that someone like myself, a genuine immigrant with alot to offer, who is trying to do everything by the book is made to feel that she has to justify the ins and outs of her life and history, when some illegals just seem to sail through it all.
Perhaps I am mistaken, but that certainly seems to be the case from what I have seen so far..
Oh, I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU, Riz! I find the concept of home schooling in general a rather difficult one to accept anyway, but when it stems from a fear of religious dilution, I find it even more scary.
I have expressed my concerns on this score to my sister several times, but of course in the end it is her child, and her right to do what she chooses with his education.
I personally think that home schooling is generally not good for the child, because they miss out on the normal socialising and dealing with peer pressure issues that are so important in coping with life as an adult..
