In an area where Connecting Singles is firmly anchored, it may be easier to find a decent match and a date if it works out. Men outnumber women among CS members. For both gender you may find a lot of inactive members. That narrows down your choice, but also the 'competition'.

I have checked the number of male CS members between 40 and 50 in different countries in the EU and in the UK. Ladies, here we go.

In my native Belgium you find 1112 men in the target age range for a total population (both gender all ages) of 11.6 Million. (Those 1112 men don't include me, since I 'm way over 50.)

In the Netherlands, CS counts 923 men in the target range for a population of 17.5 M.

In France you find that same number of 923 men, yet more thinly spread among a total population of 67.9 M.

In Germany CS counts 1499 men aged 40 to 50 range among a population of 84.3 M.

In Sweden CS counts 1024 men in the target age range for a population of 10.4 M.

Italy counts 1130 male CS members in that age range for a population of 58.9 M.

In Spain you may find 930 men in the target age range for a population of 47.6 M.

In the UK you find 6224 blokes between 40 and 50 for a population of 67.3 M. Greater London and Northern Ireland are slightly overrepresented.

That brings us seamlessly to the Irish Republic where we find 5716 blokes between 40 and 50 for a total population just north of 5 M. That dwarfs the UK market share and it comes even close in absolute numbers.

Some more small EU member states now: Malta is topping the CS market share billboard with 1775 male members in the target age range for a population of barely 518.500.
No more chance for Cyprus to do better. But with a total number of 680 CS men between 40 and 50 for a population of 1.25 M, their CS market share nevertheless eclipses that of the UK.
Forget about Luxemburg where CS narrowed down your choice to only 78 men for a population of 640.000.

Sure, money, inlaws, illness, substances, military service, flings, politics, and much more. In our case it was differences in parenting. I was wrong. VERY wrong.
Today, a nice younger couple from New Hampsire bought my latest boat, in a fair deal to both parties. I spent the day with them teaching how to be good owners, so it will be fun and last a long time.
I think boat ownership should be added to the sad list of things coming between couples.These two were a nice match, and loved each other by all appearances. And they were good learners (of course they had a tree top teacher), and already had many technical sailing skills. And it was gratifying to see how they cooperated with each other, and with me. No kids yet, and both were educated and with good jobs.
A perfect picture. Until things started to go wrong, which of course on any watercraft, is bound to happen. Regularly. And at the worst possible times and circumstances.
She seemed better at technical things than he did, yet he seemed to try to do more than his share of tasks. He made his share of understandable errors, all of us as novices make. She and I were calm and understanding, as we all made our share of the usual goofas well.
But then I saw it, and heard it. As his frustration grew, he also began to speak a little more harshly with her. Once saying, in a slightly angry voice, "I can't believe you did that the way you.did." She kept her calm supportive demeanor.
Overall, it was actually congenial. But couples who have been there will know the worrying signs.
Here I am signalling virtue, when in fact, in younger years, I wish I was more patient.

So I'm talking to this guy, and we've been mic chatting for weeks on Skype and talkin by phone. Even though he's seen photo's of my septum piercing, I hadn't posted any pic's of me on the dating site since I replaced my stainless steel jewelry with a tribal bone tusk.

Now, once I tattoo my lower lip and chin, it'll be interesting if he is also silent about that. That I plan to happen before mid December.

Sure, the young folks you meet traveling and hosteling are a very select group, statistically. But except for Asians, comparatively rare here in Portugal, I'm always meeting fairly large percentages of those not born with silver spoons. Ages from 20-about 30's, and often university educated, which makes it tough to practice foreign languages, all being so good in the world tongue. I see many similarities in style, with our twin girls, regarding how to live and to be, that make me smile. So different from many of us of the working classes half a century ago. Priorities, choices, needs, GF/BF relations, other views on friendships, parents, school, the poor, and so much more. Sort of brings that tingle down the leg each time. But of course, I avoid even the smallest kind word about the Donald.

Girls go for bad boys for two reasons:
1. They think they can control and ultimately change the bad boy to be kind, caring, affectionate etc. This never happens.
2. The girl has low self esteem or has suffered from some sort of long term psychological trauma from their parents at home.?
