RE: Is this the end for Rowdy Ronda Rousey?

Ronda ruled over a fledgling division.

Is she done? She would be if she had another path to success.

She isn't motivated to be a great mixed martial artist, she's motivated to be successful. If she were motivated to be great at the sport, she would have continued to develop her skills, and not suffered the company of yes men telling her she was a great striker.

The single best thing she could do for herself today?

Call Joe Rogan, and Brendan Schaub and schedule to sit down with them both to hear the truth.

RE: if you knew paradise awaits

Some believe that lack of struggle is unhealthy.

That we have a system that for thousands of years engaged rigorous conflict, and to not "take it out for a spin" every once in a while is a misuse of the system and leads to physical and metal maladies.

I wonder sometimes if that's not somewhat tied to the watching of sports.

If watching a thing is a vicarious experience...

RE: Thin skinned Trump doesn't like criticism

That's Robert Reich in that clip....

He also did a movie called "Inequality For All" last I checked it's on Netflix, he's an interesting guy...

RE: Why do people gossip

I talk about people, they fascinate me.

There's a quote that floats around about "....small minds talk about people.", but I find the stuff we do interesting, I always have.

Gossiping out of insecurity or anxiety isn't all bad. I'm fine with people trying to work out what's thought of them and why, it's when it's used to belittle people and secure a position within the group that I take issue with it.

RE: How do you think the world will end?

Here's another fun one.

Imagine an "End of the world in 100 years but you get rich pushing it, button."

What percentage of the population would push that button?

How many people would lie about having pushed it?

Or claim it's not what that button does?

RE: How do you think the world will end?

Imagine a world, with no end of the world button.

We're all pretty safe and happy, and we'll be around a very long time.

Imagine a world with exactly 1 end of the world button.

We'd guard that button and keep as many people as possible from having access to it, and we'd feel pretty safe still. Imagine how long that world would likely go on without anyone pushing the end of the world button.

Probably a pretty long time.

Now imagine a world were every last one of us had an end of the world button.

How many seconds would pass, before someone pushed that button?

Likely....less than a second.

We're somewhere between one button, and everyone having a button now, and we continue to move in the direction of everyone having a button.

The math will catch up with us eventually.

If I think of something supportive I'm likely to share it, and then just go on with my life.

I'm not terribly bothered by the troubles of strangers, and anytime I have been, it's been about distracting myself from myself.

Time to check in with your doctor again.

In the meantime tackle some easy stuff.

Give yourself a couple small wins.

Tidy up and what not.

Try to get outside for a walk.

A vigorous one if you can manage it.

Hydrate.

RE: THE GREATEST WARRIOR FOR AMERICA

2int was responding to you calling her a name.

That has nothing to do with wether or not she steps into Berry's interaction with someone else.

Can you really not see that?

RE: old

I have the saggy old guy balls.

I have to take care not to sit on them, it makes be....grumpy.

I should probably be self conscious about them, but if anyone that matters is seeing them,

I'm already having a pretty good day.

RE: FAKE NEWS STORIES

Yea....it pretty quickly sorts out those pictures with political "quotes/facts" that circulate the interwebbs.

It's also fun for urban myth type stuff.

Ohhh my god, I know right? laugh

RE: Cryogenics .

Gigolos...mumbling

laugh

RE: Cryogenics .

It would take a shift in thinking.

We'd have to look at fetuses as potential humans, and decide not enhancing them genetically is an unethical waste of potential. A shift like that would need a catalyst, such as impending doom. If we have to start culling the population to curb climate change or face extinction pragmatic things like designer genetics to enhance intelligence, become more likely.

A global population today of 7 billion, up 5 fold in the last hundred years....

There's a critical mass population number.

I'm not saying we're at it, but when we are and realize it, the moral formula for human value gets rewritten.

RE: I am so Tired of being Alone

Post 60 what is there to build on to make a real bond?

Keeping track of each other's medications?

I'm wondering about that even in my mid 40's.

I'm not about to start a family, what's the point?

50/50 odds we're the one that gets sick first an the other person sticks around?

Every year that goes by, brings less opportunity for shared experience, before the lights begin to dim and it's just a hand to hold as we wander off into the night. I don't know, maybe that will feel more like a reason the closer it gets.

No reason to listen to science?

You already know what's wrong, with a study you've never seen.

I understand, I won't bother you with my silliness again. tip hat

RE: Congratulations Hillary!

I was worried it might sound like was lecturing you about integrity.

That wasn't my intent.

I agree, it is worth mentioning more people voted for Hillary, when the "victors" are a bit full of themselves. laugh

There is nothing I have ever seen about him that made me want him as a president.

I disliked Trump years before this election.

He is a carnival barker, a clown and a straight out con-man.

He is not a good person.

We knew this about him.

I'm seeing lots of people one other sites blaming their vote for Trump on liberals.

For many their vote was a vengeful act, there's no reason to try and blame anyone for our "good" acts.

RE: Congratulations Hillary!

Both things are facts to the best of my knowledge, yes.

The reason I'm not willing to say Trump shouldn't be president, because Hillary got more votes is because it wasn't a contest to get the most votes, it was a contest to win the most electoral college votes, and Trump won the contest.

Had the contest been to get the most votes they both would have ran campaigns to do that, neither did.

As much as I would prefer Trump had lost the election, we've a serious problem with intellectual integrity in this country, particularily where politics are concerned. I'm not willing to act like I don't know winning the popular vote is is winning a competition neither of them was striving to win.

It's not meaningless that more people voted for Hillary, but it doesn't mean she won or even should have.

RE: were you taught predudice against any race or religion as a child?pick most revelant answer to you.

My "opinion" is based on reading about several studies regarding the "racial empathy gap" and the less reliable nature of cross racial eye witness identification.

It's a real problem in this country.

It intereferes with black folks ability to get proper pain medications prescribed, contributes to false convictions, and unfair prison sentencing.

It's not a hard study to do....

Photograph a couple dozen people of various races being pricked with a pin, mix in a couple with a dull pin to lessen the pain. Have people look at the pictures and rate the peoples pain. Look for the racial bias.

RE: were you taught predudice against any race or religion as a child?pick most revelant answer to you.

We don't need to be taught racial prejudice.

We imprint on the faces we see as babies.

We are best at recognizing individuals in that group and also best a facial recognition of their emotions.

We experience less empathy and compassion for those not of that group.

We're essentially less able to see the humanity in those not in that group.

It doesn't make us bad, but it's worth seeing it for what it is.

RE: Whats the difference with Republicans and Democrats?

The trouble with not replying, is that you're expressing this opinion publicly, over and over.

If you present an idea publicly, others have the right to challenge it.

I will reply to what I choose to,

I don't particularly care what you think either, other than the fact that you're publicly expressing an idea

that I think is both ill founded and harmful.

If you feel you're idea is not simplistic, and child like you are free to defend it.

If you don't want your ideas challenged, you're also free to keep them to yourself.

RE: Whats the difference with Republicans and Democrats?

While I understand this simplistic and wholly naive form of cynicism feels like the perfect way to not have to bother to make a choice and stand behind, it is irresponsible to the point of child like.

There are very clear, and easy to see policy differences between the parties.

RE: Share What You Are Listening To -- Part 15

I not willing to hide behind the popular vote versus electoral vote excuse.

We new the rues going in.

Both sides pursue an electoral vote victory.

I would not have accepted a "but the popular vote went the other way" from the Republicans,

and I'm not interested in taking refuge behind it myself.
