Extreme thrill seekers...I often wondered.

I am probably one of the most boring people when it comes to extreme thrill seeking. I don't know if you would get me going to the mouth of an active volcano, or hanging from the side of a cliff without some sort of safety measures.

Coming from that mindset, I wonder if people who are extreme thrill seekers should be locked up for their own safety.

dunno

....as something a bit extra here.

That lady in the commercial who gets here new high-end exercise bike looks scared to try it out for the first time. Hmm...

Why should they be locked up for their own safety?

It is their lives, and they can choose to live it as they wish.

I don't think I would like to live in a world where the fun-police decide how we should live our lives.
Because people who threaten to take their own lives are deemed to be in need of an evaluation.
toying with your life is fun Molly....like I said I am just a boring old guy.

But, I suppose.
So if you go out for a few drinks, thus putting your health at risk, you should be locked up to save yourself?

Or crossing the street? You could be hit by a car.

Johnny, people put their lives at risk all the time. I agree that some do more than others.
If they didn't, you wouldn't be living in the US. Explorers would have been locked up.
That is why we have drunk driving and drunk public intoxication laws here...you don't harm yourself or others.
Playing with a slinky, you over stretch it and it breaks....but one slip of your hand...

or one volcano erupts.

I think it is crazy and people should be checked out if they have those sort of tendencies...but that is just me.
Johnny, you can do damage to your heart, liver and other organs by drinking, not just drink-driving.

My point is, that our lives cannot be policed like that.

I personally may not choose to climb Everest or go to Antarctica, but I would never say that other people shouldn't.
It is their life to live.
Humans have explored and done potentially dangerous things since existence. It is part of the human psyche.

Whether people choose live a safe life but will inevitably still die, or choose to live a more exciting life, and still inevitably die, is totally up to themselves.

This is the reality. Life is anyway hanging by a thread. You can be safely in any place on earth but death can strike you without a prior notice.

So at least some are brave enough to challenge death and risk life. And if they lost life it's their own chosen way they exited.
dunno
Understandable Molly.

wave
Understandable as well Usha. I think there is bravery for a cause and bravery for ego. Like I said, I am a somewhat conservative fellow....becoming a little less conservative the more I understand women. laugh tongue

I don't know...still a crazy thing to do and they should have their head examined. That is my vote.

wave
Count me in. grin
Nice, vote number 2. thumbs up grin

I don't know Johnny, but I put safety first. I have my life to protect so extreme thrilling is never my thing. NEVER. Even when I went white water rafting, I made sure that the safety guard was all well set. That might sound boring, but then.. so what? laugh
laugh Laf...

I have other good qualities that can be very fun that don't require me threatening my own life over some sort of senseless act.

wave
I wouldn't even do white water rafting, even with safety harnesses. laugh You got more guts than me Kal.

I can barely cross the country road. laugh
but it doesn't mean you never, does it? grin
Johnny,

You’re not boring, and if you think you are, wait til you get together with and all crazy in love with some over-the-top hot and pretty lady, and she’s the kind that likes to try daring things?

Heck, you’ll no doubt find yourself going along and doing all those daring things with her.

Life is to enjoy. Who knows when it ends for each person. But, while we’re here, we gotta enjoy life as we like, because as they say, tomorrow is promised to no one.

That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be cautious, just means, don’t live in so much in fear. Go forward and live, love and enjoy.

You should someday come visit the beaches of California, and 5he nightlife of Vegas.
head banger
Actually Kal...I have crossed them, even with blindfolds on. laugh
night life of Vegas. thumbs up head banger laugh
Good idea Robert. Maybe I should get a new tattoo design...maybe Johnny was Here and will Return. rolling on the floor laughing
BTW,

Don’t catch the flu this season. I heard if a man catches the flu last week or this week, it could make his private area grow to his knee.

Then, you’d have to buy new pairs of pants.
Nice tip Robert. I heard the marbles drop too. dunno

Okay Robert, I should get going here. Thanks for the fun.

cheers
Johnny,

I know you wouldn’t mess around on a girlfriend. You know, we just BS on here for fun.

“So, all you single ladies out there. Johnny’s really a good guy. Get to know him, maybe, or something.”

There ya go, Johnny. I was being your wing man by saying that promo for you.

Aww-right Johnny,

Have a good night. Thanks for the fun chatter. cheers
cant believe you have come up with that at this very sad time.

These folk were on organised tour so thought it safe, but fancied being so near a volcano and take pics they have for rest of their lives.

So sad that eruption and questions do need to be asked BUT NOT NOW.

Whats thrill seeking than to see so called dormant volcano.confused climbing Mount Everest, water rafting., etc etc, this was the site of a dormant (dormant) volcano

My thoughts are with survivors they have an uphill journey that will need bravery we never have to experience .sad flower sad flower
Hello Ex,

Indeed it is very sad. This thought was well on my mind way before what I have heard about recently. I did hear that the volcano was actually known to be recently active before they landed on it. That is what one news channel reported.

I hope everyone who is stranded there makes it off safely.

But, if it was not a crazy idea, then I suspect there will be no lawsuits with the cruise line.

dunno

I am just sharing my opinion here.

wave
In addition Red, if the volcano was dormant, you would have seen me on that island as well..I don't think there is anything extreme about that, just a friendly family hike.

This blog is about extreme thrill seekers and like I mentioned in the original post, people who go to the mouth of an active volcano.

Like mentioned, I did hear from one news channel, it was reported to be recently active. I am sure that the lawyers will work the details out on that.

I am talking about the person is is doing gymnastics on the edge of a tall building's roof. Or,some of these people who are doing crazy things for attention and then post their videos on YouTube for attention.
The meaningless and forgettable sense of adventure endemic to our shrinking world, the day we reach the stars can't some soon enough. You just wish people risked their lives for more of a reason.
thumbs up CC....I am not for somebody risking their lives at all...but if you do...like you say, for some sort of practical purpose.
I see them as people who lack anything important to hang on in life...
If you have a fulfilling life and are surrounded by people who matter to you you won't go risk your life for the cheap thrill...
How cool is to die while taking a selfie on the edge of a cliff?! roll eyes
Pk, I agree....good points.

wave

maybe they should not be locked up for their own protection...then again, maybe. It would be maybe useful for them to seek some sort of help. dunno
Fair enough MF.

I wonder how far they would have to be for their loved ones not to feel the pain when something goes wrong.

wave
...just a thought that occurred to me when reading your comment.

dunno
I knda will try anything once within reason .... but people who get into trouble while doing these extremes of everything I often think take up resoures that would be better used elsewhere
Good point to JJ..

I suppose you have rescue people and hospital accommodations....and money I suppose.

wave
yeah these ejits who go up mountans an cant get down should be left there and car racers getting broke up racing makes you think should they be aloowed jump queues and be attented to I not allow them bleed to death now but id be slow in repairing stupid fools
