Smelling A Rat?
One of our local universities has conclusively proved that rats actually hear with their feet. In a multimillion Dollar research project that lasted for 5 years, they have trained hundreds of rats to jump when told to do so. When the rats’ feet were surgically removed, they no longer jumped when instructed to do so. From that they deducted that the rats no longer jumped, because they could not hear the command.According to the team’s spokesman they are now busy raising money to establish the purpose of the two protrusions on the side of a rat’s head. He added that it is sorry that their previous sponsor had withdrawn from the project just as they had their first breakthrough.
When asked about it he said that the rats were treated very humanely and if the money could be found, these feetless rats will be provided with artificial limbs and will be taught sign language to compensate for their deafness.
He also said that private donations will be very welcome as these rats must be rehabilitated as soon as possible, so not to interrupt their prolific breeding cycle which may have an adverse effect the cat population.
Have a great day!

Hi Wel,
I'm told that all research is noble. Even if just to keep a few no-goods in a job
I'l remember tat when next time somebody smells a rat!
This is the work of two people. Laurel & Hardy.
It is quite possible that he did the groundwork; and their spokesman did look notoriously familiar.
Here is a re-transmission for those who missed it!
Rodents are an important component in our food chain.
Don't beat them and feet,
Don't become their enemies,
With them a holiday become bright.
Rats are a pest in my country and some of them get as big as cats. They are very strong and sometimes not scared of humans. Once a rat tried to drag my 2kg box of pilchards (fishbait) off and he was quite prepared to defend his loot. I had quite a problem to 'persuade' him to find something else to eat.
Have a great day.
Hmm, I kept a rat when I was a child, but they are different. We have a terrible rat population in our cities and they carry all kinds of diseases.
No, rats do not have a good popularity rating here. My dogs kill one every now and again when they try to steal their food. Good Dogs!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Actually it is a very old joke about fleas (not rats!) that I used to tell when I was still in school. I think I picked it up in Die Huisgenoot during the late 60's. I just revamped it and added the last three paragraphs to be in sync with the times.
But enjoy the rest of this dull Monday night!
Da, animals play a big part in the folklore, but life is not like in the movies. The domesticated rats we keep in a cage at home are cute and fun to keep, but wild rats are a different case.
If I meet one I want to have one of these big aluminium shovels in my hands.
On your blog topic, yeah, I did smell a rat numerous times - it's called politics in a lot of cases..
Hmm, I rather enjoyed writing this load of bogus. So ridiculous it is almost believable. As someone once said, the bigger the lie, the easier to believe!
No, I'm pleased to say that is all bogus; from the back of my mind. This is what I like to write; the ridiculous stuff, but often I find that too many people believe it to be true and that is not what I aim for.
Enjoy your day.
Thank you. I'm taking it as a compliment. Hope you enjoyed it.
