Narcissistic personality disorder

I have an acquaintance who was recently diagnosed with this disorder. I feel sorry for him and after some research noticed that it is actually a common disorder among everyday friends and some family. The net is the ideal place too for these types to hide and exercise their disorder.

A person with a narcissistic personality disorder swings between seeing themselves as special and fearing they are worthless. They may act as if they have an inflated sense of their own importance and show an intense need for other people to look up to them.

Other symptoms include:
•exaggerating their own achievements and abilities
•thinking they are entitled to be treated better than other people
•exploiting other people for their own personal gain
•lacking empathy for other people's weaknesses
•looking down on people they feel are ‘beneath’ them, while feeling deeply envious of people they see as being ‘above’ them.

I watched docu other day about sociapaths and how many their are in society not all are killers but some are government officials bankers and so on they even said some may sit beside you in the office I suppose it all comes down to these labels people get these days. In the past these kind of traits where just classed as eccentric peace teddybear
Hello Luke, I believe, I am one of those Luke and I am so sorry if I get to be on your nerve and everyone sometimes..

But having said that, I do always strive to be good to all including me.

Otherwise how are you and your beautiful Africa?
lindsy professor do not allow yourself to have a label other than nice eccentric persongrin hug peace teddybear
Hi Red, I tend to feel that if I dont know of the disorder AND the banker etc. don't practice it on me then its acceptable to some degree. JMOdunno
luke wow agree thumbs up
We all fit into a slot somewhereteddybear
LJ, strangely enough I don't believe that you qualify for a grant in this specific disorder. I think it would've simmered through in your blog writing. dunno wine
@Luke....wow

That for me is rather a scary statement.... to think we could be chatting to people with serious personality disorders.... uh oh wow
Are you sure about that Luke? I am heading to the grant resources now just so I can get it in control.

Seriously Luke, the advance diagnosis of such a plight will channel us to better understanding and make the person act as normal, with proper medication to create balance. I think it will soon make the whole humanity, normal I guess..

But I will keep on reading.

Thanks Luke and might I add? This blog opens up a lot of good possibilities to help us recognize the trigger points and know how to react around them..JMO

Thanks again Luke.
Bunga,,Im no expert on this but you might just qualify as per symtom #3 :•exploiting (sniff sniff) other people for their own personal gain
handshake Congratsthumbs up rolling on the floor laughing
Kitty roll eyes their just labels top paying people have made. labels labels I was diagnosed with C.O.P.D that was after I had given up smoking six years before. I went on holiday and declared it to ins company they where going to charge me an extra £80 for something that does not bother me unless I want to run 4 min mile. Labels can do fair bit damage me thinks.teddybear
Kitty, what you are say is actually scary to me.wow You 'think' we could be chatting to some people with serious disorders? Ai, my sweet friend, I have news for you.sigh
LJ,, It seems that you are 'heading' to many places these days...confused
BUT:Normal…what is normal…according to what standard of acceptable behaviour can we class an individual as normal…

socially acceptable patterns of behaviour or the acceptable norms of an individual…
if normalcy is based on the individual then they generally can’t be classed as having any personality disorders what so ever…in the end all diagnoses of personality disorders are a matter of opinion…..
and if you don’t mind then it really doesn’t matter….. does it?

Who cares?dunno
handshake Dela,,,bowing what can I say. We had a saying in the military about an Officer and a Gentu. You sir are an Officer. Rather not tell you what a Gentu was...rolling on the floor laughing

@Red....wave ...labels often have a cruel way of being very hurtful and destructive...but in the end it is your choice to accept that label or flush it down the loo where it belongs...a tree is know by the fruit it bears and not the label it wears...thumbs up wine
go well my sweet friend and don't wear labels that don't belong to you..hug teddybear
We also had quite a few in the military Luke, no need to explain.
laugh cheers
Love your line of thinking Luke. yes, why should it matter? It just adds more pep to the dynamics of up and down, inside and out venture which makes it even more adventurous..

Yes, Luke I finally decided I belong to the non working people of America and took my early retirement albeit against my better judgement monetary wise, but I think I will croak soon so I might as well go with the flow of whatever comes my way...

Lukeon, good, you bring this up, because it is a lot of people online who has this problems. I had a friend who fell in love with a guy from America, she was in Norway... He snook into her life in such a way she did not know what was happening, but she also got to brake free from him after I have spoken to her for a while. Such a unhealthy relationship, he owed her and she just had to jump. Not good for anybody, but so easy to get involved with such a person when you are online. They are everywhere...sad flower
Hi Luke, I am glad that I don't have all the symptoms cheers

A good friend of mine was married to a narcissist. It almost destroyed her and her children. Years later, she's still rebuilding her life. It can have devastating effects on those close to them.

Hi Luke, I ll agree, think there are plenty people with such disorder - know few people who will fit into described symptoms.laugh But on a serious note - think Oscar Pistorius is one of them.

KN, happy to hear it did not get you down. Stay strong wine bouquet
Hi Luke! Thanks for this informative blog. I was in a relationship with man with that disorder for 3 years. He's an officer in the army, so I thought his behavior was cos of his line of work, even after he told me that he has the disorder, I thought he was just joking but I did recognized the signs. It wasn't a perfect relationship, emotionally draining so I gave up on it...here I am...on CS now...hopefully won't meet and end up with another one here on this site!doh grin
