Trouble With The Quack
I don’t like the professional clique. This includes medical doctors and lawyers. I respect their expertness in their fields, consult with them when needed, but I don’t trust them. And I dislike their attitudes. My regular doctor (about the only one I trust to some extend) recently changed my hypertension medication, advising me to return immediately if I experience anything out of the ordinary. At this stage, I must add that before going back on the medication a few weeks ago, I went without it for about 18 months because my blood pressure had returned to normal.
Anyway, after a few days on the new medication, I started getting cramps in my legs and feet at night. As instructed by my GP, I went back to see him, only to learn that he is out of town and that his partners are ‘looking after his patients’ in his absence. I explained the situation to the quack assigned to me. I also told him that I have been off the medication since the previous night, in accordance to what my regular GP advised me.
He told me it is my imagination. The new medication, he said, uses exactly the same active ingredient as the previous and cannot cause such side effect.
Maybe I was a bit irritated by having to see a strange doctor, but I lost my cool and told him very politely, if not somewhat impatient, that I was in full control of all my faculties and that I was fully aware of what is my imagination and what is reality. I’m not into medicine and I do not know if the cramps are related to the medication, which is why I consulted with him. The cramps are very real, in my legs, and not in my head. For good measure, I added that if I wanted such advice, I would have seen a shrink and that if that was the best he could do, I’d rather see another doctor.
He dismissed me by saying that he understands that I don’t feel well since I’m off the medication and as such he will excuse my erratic behavior. As if I was the turd in the drinking water. I stood up, mustered the best smile I could conjure, wished him a good day while wishing he’d rot in hell and walked out his consulting room into reception, requesting to see another doctor.
After 10 minutes, I was ushered into another quack’s room. He listened to me, picked up his phone, and called my regular GP. After a short conversation, I was put back on the previous medication. Lo and behold, two days later the cramps were gone.
It must have been my imagination… or something that rhymes with it!
A bumper of a day to ya all and be careful. There are sharks out there.

In Ireland you're send to the hospital and in a lot of cases, you don't see the same doctor twice. I talked to some good ones, but also some I wouldn't trust as far as I can throw them.
Costs me a fortune to get myself checked in Germany.
Yeah, if something sounds fishy to me, I will draw my conclusions. Went to see an osteopath this week - instead of doing stretching etc. he held my feet and put his hands on my back, telling me that "he could sense a deep emotional trauma". I told him that's not the case. He backtracked telling me that this could have been in my childhood. Nope, no traumas in my childhood. It would have been fairly funny if it wouldn't have cost me 70 Euro.
Actually I should check on the WWW if cramps are a known issue with the particular brand name. I'd love to give that quack another piece of my mind.
We have both options here. State hospitals and clinics vs private doctors. From what I heard, the state clinics and doctors are about what you described. You have to wait all day and never see the same doctor again. At the state hospitals medical services are billed according to your income. Pensioners and unemployed people are treated free of charge.
No point in going there if you have a steady income. You will be billed the same as by a private doctor without getting the personal attention normally received from your regular quack.
I could not do that. He may have committed me to a psychiatric institution for evaluation. We don't need that, do we?
Hope the lawyer from Australia doesn't read this comment.
I rather see very old physicians because I somehow believe they still abide with the Hippocratic oath. The new generation
Have a pleasant day and don't forget your pills.
I take my medication regular as clockwork... until it gives me problems.
sorry for mess up your blog/you can delete my comments
Sorry
I had to fight some quack doctors when my son was only 2 years old...they kept saying he's fine and insisted I take him home...I didn't, against their judgement I kept my son in the hospital and called every nurses and doctors whenever I feel somethings not right.
I did the right thing...the next morning he excreted fresh blood, we demanded to have every test done to find out what's wrong...we did find out what's wrong and they said to schedule surgery next day...I didn't agree, I demanded to have surgery right away or I will move him to another hospital and find another doctor...they did the surgery few hours later...it's all about money for them...few days later my son's good as new
quacks! and I wanted to pursue medicine then...
I'm just seeing this blog today! You must have hidden it.
Anywho! I'm with Ken on this.
Drink more water! It helps prevent cramps.......
Will do. I like bananas.
The way I see it.
You see a quack when you don't feel well. He will send you a bill because he also need to survive.
He will also give you a prescription because the pharmacist also need to survive.
When you get home you chuck the medication in the dustbin... you also need no survive.
I'm working on hidden blogs. You know like hiding it from some people. I think I must have hidden it from the wrong people for a while. Sorry.
Never had private insurance in Germany but the health care system there is good anyway.
