The Earth Is Flat!
Can you believe that, in this modern day and age, there are still people believing that the Earth is flat? Several cults and associations support this notion. They have ‘very good’ refutations for any scientific proof that the earth is round. When shown some of the photos of Earth taken by NASA, their only comment was that it is easy to see how such photography can fool the untrained eye.
My grandfather went to his grave believing that the earth was flat and that it was stationary. This I can understand. He was an illiterate man and the only writing he was capable of, was to sign his name. But some of these people are well-schooled people.
When somebody tells me that the earth is flat, I cannot argue with him. How do I prove to him that the Earth is round while he choose to ignore the scientific evidence and has a ‘good’ argument to support his viewpoint? I was taught that the Earth is a slightly flattened sphere. I never saw it and I cannot authenticate the photos taken by NASA because I was not there. I have to believe it because everything else tells me the earth is round.
But I wonder if these people really believe that the Earth is flat. Or are they just trying to be difficult, awkward, radical, or different? I know a lot of people like that. Well, here is a cause for them to support.
Becoming an associate member of The Flat Earth Society is free. For those who wish to take on a more committed role in the Society, full membership (including a signed certificate, membership card, and hand-numbered Flat Earth Society medallion) is available at a small donation.
I was brought up with a lot of misconceptions about many things. Some things that I was told are right, were not right and other things that was said to be wrong, turned out to be Ok. We are conditioned by our environment but as we grow up, we start thinking, we look around, and we learn. We weigh up the evidence and decide for ourselves. We cannot stare ourselves blind into what we think is true.
Oh, did I tell you that there is no such a thing as gravity?
I hope you enjoy this weekend.

Your grandfather was ahead of his time Cat
Absolutely brilliant. It was a fantastic school generally, very unconventional.
Not me, though. Sigh.
You mean something like this?
Willim Tell missed the apple on and hit Isaac Newton in the head. He got brain damage and concocted the theory of gravity in his lanacy.
now that's funny
Excellent teaching!
Strange as it may sound, most these groups are of religious nature.
Obstructed vision that we women can do without definitely!

Too funny
This is no joke. It is serious business.
Just one small question. With the sun and the moon at opposite end, should it not be full moon? O does the moon have it own light source?
I just looked at a simulation of a flat earth model. Gravity pulls towards the center of the disk and the further you go towards the edge, the bigger the pull. In theory you cannot fall off the edge, the gravity is to strong there.
Funny Woman!
@ken: nice to see you here too
Great to have you around again. Shortly. We are just trying to establish if they are round or flat. It will affect the design of the landing gear. It is more tricky to land on a rounded surface.
But it's never too late you know?
they had flat top skull
Are good wives in such short supply? Those four corners of the Earth are as elusive as the end of the rainbow.
Electricity gone. Unscheduled, not load shedding.
I am a new member. And I really love to read some blogs.
Yeah! the world become flatter according to Thomas Friedman.
and as you can see Luke has a definite opinion on what ought to be round....
Sorry to hijack. I had to comment on Lukeon's comment. I thought it was Jarred1 comment!!
Honestly, I think it's important to believe. But some believers stand still at a certain point and develop a stubborn mind. It's a pity when some people who have a great personality otherwise waste their thoughts and energy on such a poor attitude.
