California in trouble?

A few days back I heard that wild fires are bound to happen in California and now, it appears to have happened. Right now I am watching cars on fire on the freeway and people stranded. I cannot say I have ever seen this before. Why was traffic not diverted from the fire? They are also saying on the news there is no water nearby. With the lack of water, aside from a historic drought, are they at risk at historic fires? I would say, it appears so.

As far as my question about the diversion of traffic. The same question was just asked on the news. They say it was a fast moving fire...so, I guess that explains that.

Best of luck to Californians and be safe!

Between 2003 and 2005 while residing in Southern California I witnessed one wild fire.

I remember driving home from Hemet to Val Vista Ca and looking up at the mountains which were a bright orange.

Also in Val Vista the smoke was so thick behind the orange groves.
BARBEQUE time I say!
I've been watching on the news, they say at this point in the year, compared to other years, there are about 50% more fires. It is concerning because these fires are doing things that are not typical...like catching cars on fire. Let's hope no other unpleasant surprises arise.
CC,

I am not too familiar with the layout of California. What is there to stop these wild fires from hitting a big city...God forbid?
If my memory serves me correctly during the wild fire I witnessed they brought water in.

I wonder if they may do that now?

Johnny some parts of California they get very little moisture.
Yeah....it appears that the fire department has the fire under control on the freeway.
I don't have the answers to your questions. I lived there once. I recall that much of the state is a desert. Hence, water is not in abundance to begin with.
That is for sure Cham....this drought is really raising risks out there.
Johnny, the township in which I live recently raised the cost of water by 27%. That's a huge increase! My first thought was to wonder if we are now bailing out the state of CA. You know what I mean?
Johnny
I'm sorry to hear this! I hope that Everybody is alright!
Cham...if there was a way that was economical to pump water from the Great Lakes, I am guessing it would be over there by now. But, who knows, it might just happen. That is what I am thinking, you are thinking, when you say bail them out. grin
Pepps...if you were the president of California, I am guessing they would not be in this position. You could make it mandatory that everyone in the country give them enough water and make the donators pay California for it. thumbs up

....but Pepps....I think everyone is okay on the freeway. thumbs up thumbs up
Johnny
blushing Thank you!

Wow Cc...that picture looks a lot worse than what they showed on the news.

The news anchor asked an official out in Cali if anyone got trapped. The official said he didn't think so, but he was not 100% sure.
Wow! That's pretty horrible.
Johnny and Chame this is a similar wild fire I saw when I lived there.Except that one occurred up in the mountains.
Ccincy, just curious, when did you live in CA?
Chame I moved there in 2003 and left there in 2005.
A while ago. I lived there in the mid to late 60's.

applause Oh! My Goodness.
Why! Thank You.....bowing

I just seen it on TV. That is a strong wild fire.
Pepps, they really need you running this country, in California. grin
Johnny
Your next vote! Will get me this.
PS. The News is saying that Everybody around that fire in Kelly, is alright!
Hi Johnny, I hope all bloggers from California are safe and everyone else as well. teddybear
Hello Johnny Sparton, wave from Saskatchwan. We ve had a dry year here this year. Lots of northern Sask fires. 13,000 people were evacuated from northern communities to southern cities. We even had members of our military sent fighting fires to save northern communities. This has been our worst yr for forest fires. I sure hope it isn t a sign of the future.
In the last day or two rain has helped out with the fires, but it was a rather tense situation here.
Good luck to to the people of California with those fires, take care.
john
looks like we are all having problems with forest fires...Vancouver was thick with smoke but finally the weather is cooler and hope this means rain...unfortunately California does not have fresh water like B.C.

We need a rain maker...Peps...lol...perhaps you know a few?...wine
Usha,

Hello. Me too! I immediately think of a few bloggers we have here from California. I know Robert is in the northern part and he is tough about it....but, funnier things have happen in history.

It is nice to see you Usha. I hope all is doing just peachy in your world.

Hello 1to,

I agree. With all this talk of global warming and all the historical recording breaking weather phenomenon lately, mother nature is not anything to scoff at.

Thanks for sharing....didn't realize our neighbors from the north were suffering from drought conditions also.

wave ....take care as well.
L.L.,

I would not be surprised if Pepps post a video, here on the blog, showing her ability to make a stone bleed. rolling on the floor laughing

....but....lol....here in Michigan, it has been like the tropics or the rainforest. We have had beatiful weather with plenty of rain. But, the storms we have been having seem to produce fairly high winds. There has already been one tornado this year about 25 mile from my place. They are calling for a chance of storms tonight (we have very high humidity tonight) and for sure storms on Sunday. It almost seems like one extreme to the next. Hopefully like 1to has said, this is not a sign of our future to come.

Hope you are doing well too L.L. How is your wrist?

Hi Johnny, really not a nice thought this. Lets hope the fires stay under control wherever they are yea...uh oh handshake cheers
Hello Luke,

That was my first concern too. Once I seen cars burning, that is a bit out of the usual for the fires I know about around there.

Thanks Luke.

With entire communities without water, the real estate market in Cali is falling out. People left with homes that have no value and they probably are still obligated to pay a mortgage...huge nabobs(dust storms) in so- cal. This is the wrong place to be.
All you need now is an earthquake
to kill you all,
maybe some lava too,
if I was you I'll hurry up
and practice my best Pompei pose. cartwheel

Being from SoCal I did see that fire. It was about 25 miles from my home. I was on my way to Laughlin, Nevada so we were diverted to another freeway!

I didn't see the news nor was I close to our local newspapers but when I got home Sunday afternoon the fire was out because the Heavenly Father unleashed a big rainstorm right over that area so the blaze, I believe, was contained. Again, I haven't read the papers.

The "no water" problem is a surprise. There are about 5 huge lakes within flying distance of the huge aircraft used to fight these fires. What could have been the problem of the aircraft not flying could have been because, again, some knucklehead was flying a drone AGAIN!

SoCal people can get pretty bold and stupid sometimes. These aircraft have to be grounded so they won't hit these drones.
