1509—Michelangelo begins painting Sistine Chapel
1522—Magellan's expedition circumnavigates the globe
1760—Industrial Revolution begins in England
1776—U.S. Declaration of Independence
1880s—Europe colonized The African continent
1937- The Shopping Cart invented.
1914-1918 & 1939 to 1945 the World Wars

Interesting when put that way Map.

Wow! And that tree still stand strong and proud. smitten smitten
Reminds me of the film "Highlander" and the song sung by the group Queen .......Who wants to live forever.

Puts being immortal into perspective.
Of course...1937 being the most important historical date.....nice blog.....
All that amazing history..and now that trees going through OB blogs...rolling on the floor laughing
Daniela, No the tree is quiet and reflective.hug
Gypsy, It will stand another 1000 years!hug
Sola, Yes, it does put mortality of people into perspective.cheers
Cal, Yes 1937 is my favorite year in history, without it there would be nothing!hug
Hi Map, and we humans think we are so important roll eyes

That tree had seen generations upon generation of villagers going about their business.

It has survived the Spanish Inquisition, the invention of the car, even the invention of the chain saw..and surviveduh oh

Luckily, as you say, it is a quiet tree, because I am sure it has witnessed many indiscretions and said nothing.

I'm sure the invention of the trolley and its subsequent role in certain 'activities' must have made it lose some of its leaves in shock.
I suspect that it's the location of the tree that has kept it alive all those years, being regularly water, sited as it is with the bar on one side & the houses on the other grin
Z, The tree was transplanted from an ancient grove nearby a few years ago
It is looked after in its position and is the gathering point for the people (like me) waiting for the coffee bar to open.
Amazing. Does it still bear fruit?
Msp, I didn't want to specifically mention the 2006 UDC because of the scandal that was hushed up.
Hi Unl, Yes it does, I should have taken a closer pic, it is not pruned like the more productive trees so it has a lot less, I picked about a KG last year in the dead of night, still have them in brine.
Molly it certainly was, your city council were rather miffed that this happened in the Greater Cork Area, Still a year to remember!
Is pruning important for productivity......grin
Cal, Yes pruning helps growth, and strong limbs and very big olives, sometimes shaved.
A shaved olive....a good tip for your next Martini vlog....grin
Cal, Shaved Olives are a delicacy, The women here take pride in showing off their olive shaving skills.
Map..they show you their peach saving skills to ..
If i ever make it to Spain....i might do an evening class in that....thanks for the tip, Map....applause
Ian, It depends on the size of the crop, but it's common here to rub the fur off the peaches rather than shave them, they are delicate and bruise easily.
Cal, Evening classes are held all year round, so if you ever come to Spain I can give you more information.hug
M a p..like your style..glad we are on the same page.
Cal...kill two birds with one stone..peach rubbing classes to.
Okay I'm 50 and frustrated..So what.
Like I wrote...I'm here too. moping
I feel a Skype call coming on..wink
The truth is.....over 50s are the worst...(not me of course)...snooty
Hey Cal, I'm going to Spain 17 th..wanna come? grin
Rob, Have no idea what happened, a good old honest blog about a tree did take a turn, The "frustrated" among us are now practicing a new sport called blogbanging (Yes Its TM pending), I'm all for it, From here to eternity Peace and Love!
Come on, Map. Who you kidding? Everyone knows trees are phallic in nature. grin grin
I think you did this on purpose
omg...you sure know how to get in the spirit of things.... blushing blushing I'll be the one needing the cold shower now.
Gypsy, You asked, you received, its only fair, A cold shower just delays things so dont be hasty!
Ian, get a sock and some baby oil, you are suffering!
rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing Sweet dreams, Map. Oh, what hilarity....rolling on the floor laughing
Are the olives stuffed after the shaving?
Whoops just realised this conversation ended hours ago

Takes me that long to type a comment on stupid smartie

Sigh
Consider yourself early for the next part of the conversation, not late for the last bouquet
