mesmerised
Strange how some simple photos can fascinate (me)This is the area (just West of Port Elizabeth) where lightening struck and killed more than 60 cattle.
I drink to your health.
Have a fantastic weekend.

I have seen the photos of it coming up from under the ground. As is,you aren't already trying to avoid it.
* Never vow,as God is my witness golf,or stay on the lake in a storm
I think blogland would benefit from a weather forecaster.
have a good time.
some might think that's a sign from God ....
his way of saying he's got BEEf with us
Eh" maybe that's not funny
Poor cows
A fab weekend to you also
Yeap, I´ve seen that a couple of times in my town ....my mother lost a sister as consecuence of a lightning strike....the crucifix in my aunties´ neck attracted it, people always thought she must be in heaven as a result of .....
Her mother was there when it happened, she tried to save the 2 little ones after the first lightning strike went through the chimney into their kitchen, by the time she came back a second strike had impacted the oldest directly into her chest. She fell down inmediately. I´ve heard this story so many times...specially with every storm my grandma and I shared together, once again in the kitchen.
....and that was the little push my grandma needed to become agnostic. The first in the family, I´m the second. True story.
But do you think they consumed the meat? Charbroiled steak?
Hope you have a wonderful weekend yourself and oh enjoy them steak too
It is hard to visualize the complete topography from the photo but a lighting strike at the location of the cattle looks unlikely from here. Methinks the lightning would have gone for the treeline, the building, or the ridge at the back as captured in the photo. I wonder if the cattle was insured.
Lightening is still awesome in its inexplicable way.
Agreed. Hope you have a great weekend there.
Hi Itchy,
Nahh I doubt if God has the time to bother with 'beef'
Much more important things on his plate.
Fantastic weekend to you too.
Regards to Conor Mcgregor - if you ever run into him...
Hi Crunia,
Like I mentioned to Itchy, I doubt if Gods got the time to do these stunts.
But some people have changed their habits and ways due to a good scare at times.
Hope you have a fab weekend too.
Hi Mimi,
Of the 66 that were struck only 2 were still barely alive and had to be slaughtered asap. The 64 were buried.
I know, such a waste.
Have a great weekend there.
Hi Ek,
Thanks, I think so too.
Just make sure that your house has adequate lightening protectors and that the earths are buried deep.
Pine burns like paper and you guys are high. - situated...
Take care and a great weekend to you and family.
Hi SG,
Yes I'd say the farmer should have had them moved to lower ground prior to the storm but these things happen so quickly and the Eastern Cape is not really prone to electric storms
Hi Ele,
I read him as a kid, great author.
The cattle was not insured. Enjoy your weekend there.
Apparently Not.
Enjoy your weekend
Actually the blog was meant to be more about the lightening discharge from heaven (photo) and not the cows.
They do look like a dairy herd, not beef, but even so, they would have filled a lot of freezers!
Oh, I wasn't implying insurance fraud, I just remembered that story when I read yours. The photo of the lightning is beautiful and elemental and now a bit scary.
I've worked on container ships for a brief period and know how scary the storm looks at sea. Have a great day bro
It looks like a rip
As you said fascinating.
Yes I'd say the farmer should have had them moved to lower ground prior to the storm but these things happen so quickly and the Eastern Cape is not really prone to electric storms.
So, this an unusual event in the specific area where the cattle was?.
I was brought up to fear it ~ All mirrors were covered, stay away from windows, corners, TV, Fridge sockets pullled out everywhere,
My grandma would count the Thunder /lightning strike to tell me how far away the lightning was and pray, and then 'It's right above now' I was terrified.
I can't understand how the animals could not have been used to feed other animals or protected species like Deer in a park ? This is what happens in our Zoo in Dublin. Carcass would not have been affected by a lightning strike [quality of meat]. Just a lot of burst blood vessels from fear in Cattle.
Very unusual for Cattle not to gather together under a tree which is what they usually do, go for shelter.
Anyway it is a terrific photo. I do have a Phobia thanks to my poor grandma.
Have a lovely day.
Crunia ~ Really sorry to hear about your relatives. Horrific .
Would you say this one taken in Cape Town is a bit an 'overkill'?
Just not the 'norm'. Compared to living in Gauteng in the Highveld this is a sample. There they have daily electric storm that shake everything thats not bolted down. Really dont like that place.
Yes many cant handle the unexpected that an electric storm dishes out. I'm one of them that has respect too..
Oh wow about the last photo you posted to Non
Breathtaking & horrifying wouldn't want to be there watching this in person
Have a look at the link on the second page and see the full sized pic. Its amazing.
I've just had a look at the link Wow!!! I've never seen photos like the first & second one to be honest.
Yes, it looks amazing & fascinating but, would have been horrified to find myself present seeing those thunders right in front of me.
It must have been very exciting for the photographer to take these incredible photos
Glad you liked it.
Song must be banned for "protection" reasons!
Don't want to populate any time soon
Enjoy your lunch break!
Would make an awesome post card to send to an enemy,
Tag it with the words "wish you were there"
Check this pls, the most electric place on Earth. At one lake in Venezuela, lightning flashes 28 times a minute. I´ve been there ;)
I better get back to work.
Have a good day Luk
