These boots were made for walking

My dog was extremely emphatic about it. She'd rather have cold feet. Rather even grit in her paws.

Enjoying a strawberries & cream moment

As someone else wrote, it is a lovely day today. Sadly I detect green creeping back into my yard which means weeks of mowing are coming and not long away.

So being bored, I root around in my big freezer and to my delight find a tub of frozen strawberries. I decide to go outside, pour a little heavy cream on it before it thaws and just enjoy the heck out of the taste.

Of course Moe grows curious and wants to know what I am pouring good cream on. Moe is pushing 19 years old and knows what strawberries are, but as long as I pour some cream in the lid and then give him the lid to lap, then it is cool.

Herby (about 11 years old) came out with us, but the very concept of actually eating strawberries still so grosses him out, he is going back inside.

So I am having a strawberry and cream moment while Moe is having a cream moment and both of us loving the gorgeous day.

we talk too much

oh, not here on CS. Generally.

Money may be the root of all evil but it is only when we talk about it that people get really het up. If you don't know, you can't get annoyed.

To understand all is to forgive all - but we don't want to understand all. We want to believe what we believe, and talk others into our beliefs, and to get very angry indeed when the others won't listen, or persist in arguing. very mad

I live now in a country where I don't yet speak the language. It's surprisingly peaceful. By the time I had lived this long - 3 months - in Scotland I was caught up in several separate long-running feuds in the neighbourhood and nervously trying to avoid taking sides, being ordered to join things like Home Watch, and backing away at speed from politically-indignant individuals with multiple opinions.

Here, no-one tries to talk to me about politics or issues. I greet people, remark how cold it is, we go on our way smiling. My Spanish builders have given up repeating themselves endlessly in the hope I will suddenly start understanding idea and instead we get by on a handful of words and a lot of vigorous mime. Ditto when I look up the Spanish phrase I need and go to the DIY shop on the corner. The very voluble duenna in my street who grabs everyone who passes and talks at them for 20 minutes just nods, smiles and pats my dog (which she calls wa-wa).

My neighbour speaks several languages and translates when mime is simply not enough, but for the rest no feelings are offended by things said, because there is not enough vocabulary to offend.

I am beginning to think I should never learn Spanish. I like this peace and quiet!

We talk too much.

You always think there is one more piece of peanut

butter candy left...

Well yesterday every time I tried to nap, noise outside my bedroom window woke me. Finally I grew annoyed, grabbed a camera and snuck up on the noisy fiends. They ran into the sun and down the hill, but still if I had brought a shotgun instead of my pocket camera I could have filled a larder.

Last night I threw some rib eye steaks into the broiler. This is me flipping them.

Broiled to medium rare perfection, about a half pound each. Two for dinner last night and the other two for lunch today on toast as a sandwich with home grown tomatoes and lettuce.

So about 20 years ago my wife and I buried some seeds in some thickets, then intentoinally ignored the areas. Let Darwin rule, and what will be will be. Sugar Maple trees, pear trees, Cherry pits, etc. Well the deer ate the cherry tree saplings. Ce la vie. Other stuff thrived.

Today I visited one of the thickets out of curiosity.

LoL, what we planted there has taken over that thicket and the next two or three too. Grapes. Growing wild. Ranging in size from a half inch to 3/4 inch.

I tasted. Definitely not store bought. Kind of a tangy sweet taste. I think I will fill a bucket or can with some and see if the mash up well in my mortar and pistil, then boil them, let it cool, add some sugar and yeast and cover the jar with cheese cloth and let it sit for a month. Should be ready to strain and drink right around Thanksgiving Day. It will go good with the turkey (or venison) I think.

Tonight I am going to drive down to Linden, VA. There is a man there selling used steel 55 gallon drums for $10. My own (used as a burn can for the past 6 years) is just about burned through. Time to get a new one. Maybe I will make an educational video of me shooting some air holes in it tomorrow. :)

THE FOURTH SIGN OF THE ZODIAC (PART 3) Mary Oliver

I know, you never intended to be in this world.
But you’re in it all the same.

So why not get started immediately.

I mean, belonging to it.
There is so much to admire, to weep over.

And to write music or poems about.

Bless the feet that take you to and fro.
Bless the eyes and the listening ears.
Bless the tongue, the marvel of taste.
Bless touching.

You could live a hundred years, it’s happened.
Or not.
I am speaking from the fortunate platform of many years,
none of which, I think, I ever wasted.
Do you need a prod?
Do you need a little darkness to get you going?
Let me be as urgent as a knife, then, and remind you of Keats,
so single of purpose and thinking, for a while, he had a lifetime.

(John Keats, one of the English Romantic poets, was 25 when he died. Mary Oliver is 81)

I know, there is a poetry section, and this isn't even my own. I like it. tongue

I liked a comment under the article and quote even more, even though it is practically the opposite message.
